If we were on the same side of the Indian Ocean, I would have loved to sell you some of my Awesome Muskets (SIam has Awesome Muskets, BTW). But sadly, we're too far apart. Trade would never really work between us. :(

Oh well, my Island of Borneo's got some Gold on it :D

Still not all that advantageous. Musket tactics with crossbows, on the other hand.

Not many, hard to transport. And Mali is a swamp land. Sure, when you could get them there, they would be effective. But, getting them there would be the issue. And Mali would have likely procured a cannon or ten from some nation wanting gold.

About how long would it take to sail from Suakin, Abyssinia(RL Sudan), to the Maldives in a fleet of dhows?

No. Just no.

I do  We call it "Larrakia Keaa" (Larrakia Island), after the first Natives of Australia we met. Of course right now, we don't know it is so massive and filled with hundreds of Tribes, but we own it! We already got a colony there as well, called "Muang Bi" :D

You can have the Aztec Land, I just want Baja California and the land to it's East. If I met the Aztecs, I'd wanna destroy them!

The Incans, however, I might want to "Trade" with them  But I haven't called that, so it's open to whoever.

Oh, I thought you meant you had all of Australia. That would've been strange when even New Guinea would be a stretch.

I assume you mean muskets as in heavy arquebuses. If so, then suck on my proto-Carolean pike and shot.

I have used spearman for hundreds of years, and I've been introducing the arquebus into my military for months now, having those who know how to use them train two others, and doubling like that. By the time we meet each other, I will likely have developed similar tactics.

No, I mean Martini-Henry tactics with Chinese crossbowmen. Arquebus end are good for a shock volley, but for rate of fire crossbows are more excellent.

Europe didn't have anything close to Carolean tactics, by and large, until the 1700s. Ethiopia, a nation only recently introduced to gunpowder, having them by the 1600s? No.

I'm mainly using arquebuses as scare tactics against the more primitive tribes right now.

You said proto-Caroleans, which means before Caroleans. I meant pike and shot, which is pikeman guarding arquebus guys in various formations. That was not unique to Caroleans, in fact, the first article I read on it just now talked about it being employed during the Italian Wars.

TLDR: I was talking about pike and shot tactics, not Caroleans, which were known all over Europe at the time.

Bah, we use high rate of fire poisoned arrows in conjunction with armored Calvary and spearman. Heavy cannon introduced recently would be used in important battles, or as a scare tactic.

Right now, we have 1 Colony in the Northern Area of Australia where the Larrakia live/used to live (Google Image "Larrakia Country" to see how much Larrakians actually owned). When my guys convince the King to explore past Uthong (New Guinea), then we'll discover how big Australia is, as well as the Polynesian Isles up to Tahiti. We have to colonize all of this before we even get to Baja California!

Also, we do own all of New Guinea, but the Natives are going to attack the Colonies on them for a while (Right now, there is one Colony on New Guinea, called "Kykhemr", New Khmer). Right now, the Colony is just existing, but next post, I might do the first Native attack.

proto-Carolean tactics applied to the pike and shot tactics, is what I mean. Even so, pike and shot is all very well, but Europeans are still going to have a lead on the rest of the world in those fields; they invented it, and they are closest to the others who are innovating it. You don't need magic to use pikes and arquebuses better than others; look at tercios and the Swiss.

Who says they still don't live there?

Anyway, that's fine, but colonizing all Australia? See you in a few centuries.

What are your Indies possessions?

True, I will probably end of developing my own tactics in the end. Anyhow, does anyone have an estimate for my Suakin to Maldives question?
