Zach & Jillian: Behind Blue Eyes (IC)

Postby Harbertia » Sun Jan 12, 2014 5:02 pm

OOC

The pair travel to the Yokiba shopping district where a series of maulings by a giant dog have been reported, the Order feels a werewolf is responsible.
A light in casing is still a light.
Tomorrow is made today.
You can't stop progress, but you can direct it's course.

Jillian fidgeted with her long silver hair uneasily as she rode in the passenger seat of the car. There was something about this call, something she couldn't stand. The location was not unfamiliar to her. A busy shopping center, she had been here many times, and she always remembered it to be full of kind, normal people. It was this that upset her. She had fought those that struck out against the government with no problems, but these attacks weren't against the Order. This monster had savaged innocents. Deciding this train of thought had gone far enough, she changed her focus to what was known of the attacks.

Claw marks, partial cannibalism, bits of fur... The makings if a classic horror film. Still these are usually pretty easy to deal with. As long as we work quick enough we should be able to find the culprit and put him down before any one else is hurt.

She yawned before getting back into thinking. The call had come in at 5am, quite early for a sleepless night, and she hadn't slept more than four hours. Her recent dreams had been giving her some trouble. She had been living nightmares of being alone... Or worse, in the company of the dead. She would wake up and then comfort herself with the fact she wasn't alone. Anytime she needed someone to talk to her partner, Zach, was there.

Zach looked in the car mirror, seeing Jillians unease. He could understand her feelings about the call. A monster preying on those that couldn't defend themselves, leaving their bloody remains for the two of them to find. It was a story both of them were familiar with and in Zach's opinion they had seen it too many times. He sometimes wished they could do more to prevent this sort of thing from happening, rather than just picking up the pieces once the people had died.

Zach shook his head, he couldn't let his emotions get in the way of his job, otherwise more people would get hurt, or worse.

"Which way from here?" Zach asked, he hadn't been to the shopping district before. He was worried about his partner, the last couple of nights had been rather sleepless for her...

Just go right. It is only a little ways down this road. You could see it if it wasn't for that grove of trees. I'm not really sure how there is still a farm in the middle of town, but its just past it. Are you ready?" she asked as she turned to to face him. He looked concerned to her so she attempted to brush off her distress and appear as if this was any other mission. Still her actions were slightly nervous. Her fingers drummed against the glove both in nervous anticipation. There was a fresh kill and a new case. She realized that her fingers were fidgeting and stopped them from continuing.

"Have you really never been here before? That surprises me. There is a wide variety of shops here. I've purchased everything from groceries to pet fish here over the years.' she said flashing a quick smile. It was true, she had been coming here for years. She had come here with her sister and her parents when they had purchased an aquarium long ago, and the place carried many positive memories.

"I mostly avoided places like this, I don't like crowds..." Zach stopped himself, turning right where Jillian indicated. Unlike her Zach didn't like talking about his past. He drove down the road for a short while, seeing the shopping district. He looked back a Jillian briefly, his worrying only increased at her attempts to hide her discomfort, however he tried his best to not let it show.

"Well we're here, do you remember any good places to park?" he asked looking around for a parking spot, noticing the large amount of people and cars here already, he tensed slightly. Breaking for a red light as he turned into the district.

Oh this is going to be great

"I think there is a back parking lot that is seldom used around the back. This may be difficult with all theses people. Hopefully the bodies are being protected in some way. I wouldn't worry too much about the crowds other than be an annoyance. Dammit, this is going to be difficult though. It's like finding a needle in a hay stack," she said as she took a quick look around. It really was crowded, as if no one cared, and the victims were hopefully located away from the crowds. They didn't need the publicity, crowds tended to interfere with evidence, and Zach said they made him uncomfortable. She hadn't ever noticed this before, and she felt somewhat bad about it. She wasn't insensitive, but she couldn't recall noticing this before. Most of the investigations they had undertaken didn't have crowds though, so she reasoned that it was just that they hadn't been in environments where it would be noticeable.

"The Order probably has some sort of presence near the bodies by now." Zach remarked heading for the parking lot. "Though I suppose that may be problematic, the low level grunts don't tend to like it when we move in on their jurisdiction." He drove into the lot, taking a parking spot close to the entrance. He put the handbrake on and took out the ignition key, opening the door and stepping out, waiting for his partner to get out of the Car.

She right... It will be like finding a needle in a haystack. Clever beast, it chose an often crowded district where it could blend in with the other humans. It's definitely not some dumb brute...

"Well, we have dealt with them before. Hopefully the bodies haven't be deserved. We should be able to get some ideas from the bodies, I bet they have security cameras here," she said as she got out of the car. "If it happened on camera we are good to go. If the camera's were destroyed that means the attacker is very familiar with the structure. Did you hear anything about who the victims were when you answered the phone? I am sure we'll find more out in a moment, but it would be nice to know about who was attacked."

"The guy didn't say much, he did give me a location." He took out a crumpled piece of paper from his pocket, "Forty Third street, fifth buildings alleyway. Wherever that may be..." He was a little preoccupied, seeing the large crowds made him even more nervous, an odd instinct compelled him to keep and eye on Jillian as they went through the crowds, almost afraid he would loose her.

"Well the location means in won't be as crowded. The Order will already be there, but there is not much that can be helped there. if it is a werewolf at least we'll have an interesting challenge. He or she could be anyone, and I suspect is rather crafty," Jillian began to say. She would have continued, but it dawned upon her that this was improper. People had died and lives were threatened. This was not a macabre competition, this was a murder scene. A dark expression crept across her face as she relised what she had done. She had lessened the horror of the situation. Only a monster killed innocents, and it wasn't a test for her to challenge herself. These were people's lives hanging like marionettes, and she didn't have the authority to be the grand puppeteer. She needed to stay focused and be more like her partner. Even with his obvious discomfort, he understood the situation's magnitude and was going to take it seriously.

What the hell do you think this is? This is no competition, this is no challenge, and the stakes are too high for you to treat it as such, People may be hurt if you don't deal with professionally.

She slipped into the crowd and began making her way towards the location Zach had stated, but then stopped. Zach had never been here before, and she had nearly forgotten.

Zach gave Jillian an odd look, but didn't judge her for her statement. They had both seen some macabre things, perhaps trivializing it was a way of coping. Zach on the other hand didn't have a way of filtering all the horrible things he saw, he just tried his best to ignore the unfortunate deaths and tragedy he came in contact with. But there was always those corpses he saw in his dreams…

He was so preoccupied he didn't notice Jillian slipping into the crowd. Zach nearly panicked, the situation too familiar. He quickly tried to catch up with Jillian, following her to the alleyway. He shouted, trying to catch up with her and swim through the crowd, however he wasn't used to picking his way through large crowds and so went considerably slower, yet was still able to follow his partner

"Sorry Zach, I should've waited. Lets see what we—" Jillian apologised and began to say before taking a step into the alleyway and being interrupted by a burly man.

"Sorry, miss, this area is off limits to all citizens. Please continue on the normal shopping roots."

"My name is Jillian, and I am here with the paranormal investigation, sir. So, I am supposed to be down there. This man with me is my partner, Zach, and he is required to be at the site too."

"Okay. Why're you so damn snarky?"

Why do I have to suffer you oafish baboon?

"I'm sorry, sir. Could you please take us to the scene of the attack," she said biting her tongue.

"Yes. There are already several detectives here. I don't understand why we need paranormal investigators too, but..."

Jillian was looking red and struggling to keep her mouth shut. She turned to Zach to communicate her anger. The man lead them a little way back to what appeared to be a small gathering of people around what was likely the body.

"Gentlemen, these are the supernatural investigators that were contacted for the case."

Zach sighed, having caught up with his partner. He was glad that Jillian didn't snap at the Order security officer, that could have caused some problems. Though he didn't blame her, these Order types never trusted nor liked Zach or Jillian. The only one who trusted them was their sponsor within the Order.

"Just let us take a look at the body, we know what we're doing." He replied the man, then walked over to the body, inspecting it.

The body's chest was torn by deep set woulds. It was female and looked to be a young a women, but the head and neck had been shredded by teeth, leaving it beyond recognition. Bits of a dark brown fur stuck to her clothes, and both boot prints and monstrous tracks of blood could be seen leading away from the corpse. The blood was dried and it was evident she had died sometime during the night.

"Jel," Jillian. She felt a little green at the site of the body, and looked away. "I s'pose there is no identification on the body."

This can't be fun...

"Yes, and the security camera also wasn't functioning," some man mentioned.

"This is bullshit. Complete and utter bullshit," someone muttered.

"It is bullshit, but we have to sort threw this crap to make sure it doesn't happen again. Zach what do you think we should do?" Jillian asked looking to him nervously. Not only was it dangerous, but she wasn't really sure how to begin. It was slightly overwhelming, and she felt as if all of her knowledge was just out of reach. It was enfeebling in many ways, and she didn't like the feeling. There was a bad smell in the wind of the investigation, however, this was her job and she was vowed to find the killer.

No cameras, no witnesses and not a single thing left behind apart from the body. This isn't just a beast, it must know what it's doing. Think, Zach, think. What could this...thing have left behind?

Zach briefly considered waiting until another victim was taken. He discounted it immediately, that would involve letting innocents die and whats to say the beast wouldn't keep being this careful...

He paused, noticing he was starting to give orders like some sort of officer. He cleared his throat, "...If thats okay with you gentlemen?" he added.

No, that makes sense. Though if the werewolf has evaded detection for this long he won't be in the database, but they victim should be easily identifiable," one of the men answered. He was obviously both in charge of the investigation and overwhelmed by it at the same time. The men went to work in a moment leaving only Zach and Jillian to watch.
Jillian looked at Zach for a moment making brief eye contact and forming a worried expression. She quickly looked away hoping that Zach didn't catch it. It was mainly a concern she had for him. Zach seemed really distant and it bothered her. He wasn't comfortable here. Maybe it was just a lack of sleep, but for some reason she felt it was something more. A memory that haunted him... an untold secret... she had no idea what it was, but she was sure in would come to the surface before too long. Zach paused, he got up, turning to his partner. They had worked together for a long time now, he had revealed only the smallest details of his past, even then he had always been quick to change the subject. Though he had never exactly lied, he felt he hadn't been completely honest with Jillian. He briefly considered what to say.

He begun speaking, then stopped himself and sighed. "I haven't told you… much about my past." He replied, trying to keep his voice hushed so the Order Officer wouldn't hear him. "I… I can't…" Even talking about his past made him feel uneasy, and brought back bad memories.

He gritted his teeth, "I can't talk about it just yet… I can deal with the crowds and we have more things to worry about right now." He quickly changed the subject, he really didn't want to talk about it just yet. "While our Order friends find the victim we need to find the murderer…" He walked over to the boot prints, cocking his head as he looked at them.

"Do you know anything about werewolves?" He asked, Jillian often knowing more about the creatures they encountered.

"Well a little, for one thing, they hunt in packs. The actions of a lone wolf means that he is young and looking to create a pack of his own. They are descended from Hora and have a well documented allergic weakness to silver and gold. They often have tell-tale signs in their behaviour, especially the younger they are. My guess is that this killing was someone he knew, or someone who knew about him. It's probably safe to assume its a male. Lone females are much more rare," she looked at him for a second. She had to make sure she was getting through. As much as she liked to here herself talk, the fact that he was uncomfortable made her uncomfortable.

"Well that is about all I know about them. I haven't had to deal with one before. Their abilities are pretty well known. The mental state of werewolves is debated. Some claim they act far more bestial than man, and some claim they ask far more man than beast."

She turned to inspect the body again.

"Oh, yeah. They have clans. Think of them as different species of wolves. Most of North American is the Grey Wolf. Some Red Wolves have been reported, and Were-Coyotes are unconfirmed."

One of the public investigator, Sergeant Brian J Walter, looked at Jillian from the body and said, "We believe the body is matching of a woman. We believe this woman was with someone before she was attacked. That's all we could find," Walter said, clutching his tommy gun while looking around, as if he's expecting an attack to happen any time soon.

"We'll that was rather insightful. Where do we go from here?" Jillian asked herself more than anyone else. She was at a loss for what to do. It was now a mission to catch a murderer in a case with no suspects and no motive. She didn't even know who was murdered. They would just have to be lucky.

Zach listened to the newcomers description, but had to stop himself from showing irritation. Zach and Jillian had both made a deal with the Order so they wouldn't have to deal with the politics of its Justice System if they wanted to keep helping people and solving these crimes. Now it seemed this case was going to become much more complicated. He looked at Jillian, his face suspiciously absent of emotion. "Alright, me and my partner will need a while to decide our next course of action." he replied, he would need to talk to Jillian alone, Neo American terrorists would make this case both more troublesome, and more dangerous.
