Blood Diamonds (OOC/Open)

Postby Ubaria » Thu Jan 09, 2014 4:57 pm

Information:This is an RP set in 1991, in a fictional African nation that has been created after the aftermath of a bloody civil war which is still raging on. The themes are based around an illegal diamond trade in the area, similar to the setting of the popular game Farcry 2. P.S this is also my first RP in which i am OP. So any feedback would be nice.

Backstory
1988
The African nation of Angola is in the midst of a horrific civil war, raging on for more than a decade at this point, one of the bloodiest wars the continent has ever seen. The Soviet and Cuban backed MPLA are fighting for control against the Western backed UNITA, a war that has taken many lives. It has been cited as one of the many major events of the cold war period, a proxy war between 2 more powerful nations. While history dictates that eventually peace would be reached, this alternate history has something else in mind.

For months now the MPLA had been on the retreat, the U.S had pledged more support for the UNITA, providing them with crates upon crates of weaponry, equipment and vehicles. This gave the UNITA new hope, a hope that would ultimately prove true when they launched a massive offensive against MPLA lines, Tanks broke through MPLA defenses, overran them and took no prisoners, its estimated that 10,000 MPLA troops died over the course of a 4 week offensive that isolated remaining MPLA forces, the rest had surrendered or fled south into Nambia. The MPLA were left with a small south western section of Angola, which they secured from any more UNITA advances. Eventually the UNITA offensive came to a stop when they were exhausted. Ultimately the MPLA were now in a position to negotiate, their demands were simple. To keep the territory they owned and declare itself a nation, grudgingly the west and the UNITA accepted.

Now possessing a fair amount of land, the MPLA renamed itself to the Tuanian Territorial Army (TTA) after the nation of Tuania, which they had founded. Rebuilding was slow, but with aid now coming from the Soviets they began rebuilding anew, so why were the soviets so interested in Tuania all of a sudden?
One answer.
Diamonds.

Miners had found large swaths of land, littered with the highly sought after rock. Seeing this as an opportunity, Tuania traded diamonds in turn for weapons and equipment, to re-arm themselves and go back to war to reclaim lost lands. The U.S and U.N caught on and threatened more military action if the deals were not ceased. Which they were. Leaving a large stockpile of diamonds in the nation, so common infact it became currency for trading. Soon fighting began in the nation of Tuania for control over diamond mining and distribution, birthing warlords and bandits of many kinds. And since there was no shortage of arms in the nation, this sparked another civil war.

1991: Current Day
Tuania is now in a state of civil war, the TTA are trying to seize control of all diamond mines in the country, various militias and bandit factions also seek to do the same. The U.S do not wish to get involved...officially. THe Soviets also wish to claim more diamonds, in trade for a plenty full supply of arms. UNITA are still re-building their shattered nation, war now would complicate things. The newly formed African nation is left to stew in a pool of its own blood.

Factions

Un-Playable Factions

Tuanian Territorial Army
Or the TTA for short. Forged from the remnants of the MPLA, their sole job was to prevent invasion from the UNITA and provide inner security in Tuania, now their aims are to oppress the masses, take control of all the diamond sites in the country and eliminate all the rebel threats. So far they are failing at 2 of those tasks. They are loyal to General Kayumbi. A weathered war veteran with no regard for the human life, even his own men fear him. Most of the troops carry over soviet weaponry given to them in the Angolan Civil war, weapons such as AK's, RPG's, Dragunovs and other soviet weapons. They also own a fleet of soviet tanks and armor, as well as a fairly decent airforce, mainly a helicopter fleet as there is a shortage of skilled fixed air pilots. Their main base is in the capital city, they also own the countries only tarmac airport, they also hold most of the largest diamond mines.

Black Diamond Militia
A rebellion, aimed at taking power away from the TTA and of course gathering large amounts of diamonds. Mostly formed from Tribal leaders and smaller african militias who have flocked here to take advantage of the current unrest. They bring with them stolen and purchased weapons such as RPG's, AK-47's and other commonplace cheap weaponry. For transport they use cheap trucks or pickups, with metal plates welded on for protection. Some have M2 Brownings or PKP's mounted on to make a crude technical. Whilst nobody claims official leadership for the Black Diamond Millitia, most agree upon attributing the leadership to a Hakonos Miumbi, a savage, cruel and horrific man. His signature markings are large bold tribal tattoos over his face, upper body and arms, as well as this he wields 2 large machetes. He has been reported to chop his captors limb from limb before eating their appendages infront of them before they die.

Playable Factions

US/UK/NATO agent
Whilst the U.S and its allies have refused aiding the UNITA anymore, they also refuse a direct confrontation on African soil. Officially there has been no action on Tuanian soil or in Angola since the end of the war, however, under the politicians and presidents lies, the U.S have indeed sent field agents to gather data on the ground about the situation, to see if its feasible to gain control of the diamond flow from the region. This is also true for many other NATO countries. There is a network of U.S and British spies across Tuania and indeed Angola, as well as the rest of the African region. The Tuanians despise Americans, however im sure you can convince them you are are a neutral party. Whether you will carry out your duty to your country, or go rouge...is up to you.

Ex-Soviet
Since its 1991, the downfall of the communist soviet union has finally come around. Whilst the country undergoes major reforms, many soldiers and military personell have fled the country, looking for jobs that require their expertise. Many have fled to Tuania to sell the stockpile of Soviet weapons that otherwise would have been turned over to the Americans. And since Tuania cant get enough of guns, their product is sh*t hot. Of course in trade for diamonds, which can buy your way into a lot of places. The soviets are on the constant lookout for Americans, and vice-verca. Unlike the Americans the Soviets are almost welcomed in the country, of course this can attract a lot of attention.

Independent.
Offering no allegiance to an ideal or a flag anymore, you have left your nation of origin in search of adventure and wealth, what better place to look than a backwater country up to its knees in rare earth minerals and guns? Your journey will surely be a bloody and maybe unlucky one, but maybe the reward outweighs the risk for you? You come from any place on the globe you can imagine, your background? Nobody will have to know a thing, and if you have a certain trade or skill, that could make you invaluable to the right people.

Information
You are are either a fresh arrival in this sun-baked hellhole, or have been here for no more than a couple of weeks. Everybody has to get the feel they are stepping into a completely crazy and out of control environment. Of course you came here with cash, but that will only get you so far over here, diamonds are the thing now. In the various stalls just outside the main airport (more of a tarmac strip full of potholes and a scorching hot concrete building for a terminal) there are various things for sale, including guns, lots of guns, explosives, various melee weapons and other miscellaneous equipment that you are pretty sure would be illegal if it were in the United States or anywhere else. Your accommodation, some mosquito ridden backalley hotel that smells suspicious. Bullet holes riddle your hotel room wall and doors, you're pretty sure thats a bloodstain on your beds headboard, no matter. You need to rest, tomorrow you're going to go out and explore, perhaps meet the locals and get into some trouble?

-Weapon Vendor Information-
Since you didn't arrive here with any weapons, you purchased a couple on the way in.

Assault Rifles
AR's are commonplace in most military forces around the world, they are useful for short to medium range engagements, maybe long-range if you have the skill. They are useful in a bunch of various situations.

AK-47 - $75/7 Diamonds - Commonplace AR, ammo is plentiful and gun is reliable.
FAL Paratrooper - $100/10 Diamonds - Rarer AR, better at longer ranges than other AR's.
G3KA4 - $110/11 Diamonds - Rarer AR, good for long range, comes with low zoom scope.
AR-15 - $120/12 Diamonds - Very Rare AR, good all round performance, better range than AK.

Marksman Rifles
For when AR's just dont cut it. A DMR can deliver the firepower of an AR, and better, over longer distances. Maybe not the penetration of a sniper rifle, but still useful for long range gun battles.

M14 - $110/11 Diamonds - Common DMR, lots of ammo and reliable. Good when fitted with scope
Zavasta M76 - $120/12 Diamonds - Rare DMR, ammo can be hard to come by.
SR-25 - $200/20 Diamonds - Very Rare and new DMR, all rifles are almost like new, ammo is commonplace, but the rifle needs maintaining regularly.

Sub-Machine Guns
Most SMGs are close quarters bullet hoses, for clearing urban corners and tight roomspaces. Their small compact designs allow for maneuverability and agility over heavier and clunkier counterparts by comparison.

MP5 - $110/11 Diamonds - Commonplace SMG, ammo is rareish but still in supply. The weapon itself can be silenced for those situations where being un-noticed is key.
Uzi - $90/9 Diamonds - Commonly seen in the urban hoods of the U.S, though its found its way here as another common weapon. Not terribly accurate, but when your target is standing next to you, its going to do damage.
Specter M4 - £130/13 Diamonds - An Italian firearm, rare around these parts, offers decent protection against nearby targets, and targets that may be standing across the room from you.

Shotguns
And when the SMG's dont cut it for CQC? Shotguns. Able to decimate most targets within the vicinity, and maybe the guy standing next to him. Can blow limbs clean off. Bring a mop.

Ithica 37 - $100/10 Diamonds - An old shotgun by any standards, its got the kick, and the results show. Ammo is commonplace, because its 12 Gauge.
Spas 12 - £150/15 Diamonds - Expensive, but worth it. This iconic shotgun packs a punch, and with a folding stock its easier to put rounds into people.
USAS-12 $180/18 Diamonds - Rare, but worth it, this auto shotgun will SHRED anything in its path, maybe even the walls themselves.

Light Machine Guns
Bullet hoses. Heavy and cumbersome, but god help you if you're at the mercy of the guy behind the trigger. You'll be a lead sandwich after a couple of seconds.

PKM - $320/32 Diamonds - A russian weapon, common and cheap, the soviets bought them down. Now you find them mounted on most pickups, or in the hands of the burly militiamen.
M249 - $360/36 Diamonds - The American counterpart, rarer, and so is ammo. But its more accurate than the PKM, and it comes with a bipod for laying down serious fire.
M60 - $340/34 Diamonds - Unloads a hellstorm of bullets, if you can control it. This rare weapon its worth it if you want to turn enemies into a quivering pile of...whatever is left.

Sniper Rifles
If used correctly you can kill a guy before he even hears the shot. Maybe. You can also put rounds through solid concrete, the guy standing behind that concrete, and the guy behind him...sometimes.
Dragunov - $330/33 Diamonds - Reliable, sturdy and common sniper rifle to be found, as is ammo. Though it lacks any kind of bipod or grip, hope you have a steady hand.
M40 - $220/22 Diamonds - Old, but good. Can still take out targets from long distanced, though it is bolt action. Takes a skilled sniper to reel off continuous shots.
Barrett M82 - $450/45 Diamonds - So you want to destroy that truck, kill the 3 guys inside and the elephant wandering past? Rare rifle with even rarer ammo, but it pays off.

Pistols/Handguns
Makarov PM - $50/5 Diamonds - Good little handgun, common and cheap too. Though dont expect to be flooring people with this thing
M1911 - $60/6 Diamonds - A little better than the PM, reliable and ammo plentyful. Still dont expect to blow heads off or anything.
Desert Eagle $150/15 Diamonds - Better described as a hand cannon, this might blow heads off, but you still have to hit the target first. Rare along with its ammo.
Colt Python - $250/25 Diamonds- Classic revolver, its rare around these parts along with its ammo, but at least you look the part.

Grenades/Explosives
M67 Frag - $30/3 Diamonds - Common American Grenade, pull the pin and throw, wait for bang. Simple. Though you need a good throwing arm and sense of direction.
RGO - $20/2 Diamonds - Cheaply made Russian frags, tend to explode upon impact rather than a time delay. So throw in an open space.
IED - $40/4 Diamonds - Comes with detonator. A jumble of explosive compounds, a trigger and some wires. It looks unsafe and more likely to explode in your backpack than anywhere else.
C4 Pack $120/12 Diamonds - Safer than an IED, but at a price. You can also explode a lot more with C4.
Molotov $10/1 Diamonds - Why even buy these, you can make them yourself...it saves you doing it i suppose

Melee
Machete $10/1 Diamond - Looks blunt and dull, useful for cutting through bush and low plants. A human? Would take a few slashes.
Combat Knife $30/3 Diamonds - Looks like some kind of U.S army knife, in better condition than the Machete, but it lacks the chopping capacity.
Tomahawk $50/5 - A crudely constructed axe that loosely resembles the things the tribal indians used. You could throw it if your that badass.

Special
Flamethrower - $570/57 Diamonds - Despite the price it looks homemade, and liable to explode at any time. Useful for burning the dry wooden buildings that litter the place.
RPG-7 - $450/45 Diamonds - Fwoosh. Boom. Your classic rocket propelled grenade, not terribly accurate, then again its an explosion, so point it in the general area of the thing you're trying to kill.
M79 Thumper - $420/42 Diamonds - Chucks grenades over a small distance, farther than you could throw i bet. Pretty rare to find ammo however.
M63 Mortar - $820/82 Diamonds - So you want to blow up the enemy from a couple of miles away, seems like a good idea. This mortar chucks shells over a distance, ammo is kinda common.
Flare Gun $210/21 Diamonds - Its main use is for signaling, but in the thick dry brush out here, you can use it to set fire to things and as a distraction. Or fire it point blank at the enemy. Whatever.

Patience my young padawan.
Rest of the OOC is coming tomorrow (its late here in the UK). It will contain the rest of the information.

And to answer your question, you can play as ex-soviet military, fleeing here to escape the collapse of the USSR. An American secret agent, or a young adventurer, coming here to seek vast fortune and wealth. and everything inbetween.
Yo, that's mad.
