Many assume that the worlds and people in the books lining the walls of your local library are nothing more than fiction. Those same people would most likely tell you that believing that such realms and planes of existence is foolish and naive. The ignorance these people live in shows no bounds, for there is a place where fiction comes to life, and it’s not in some far away realm or dimension, or in some isolated cave in Siberia. You need only to look in the Little Creek Public Library in Norfolk, Virginia.
The transformation from a dull, unassuming collection of novellas, comics, and scientific columns into a bright and colorful world happened, quite literally, overnight, and only happens at night. The source of this sudden sense of life in the library is caused not by the works of gods or deities, but by some Aztec priest performing ixiptlatli who somehow ended up giving a small statue the power to bring fictional characters to life through a chain of unexplainable events that would probably make no sense anyways. The statue, which really had no purpose before hand other than being a decoration, became a holy idol when someone witnessed Quetzalcoatl appear nearby it and told just about everyone he or she could about it. About two weeks later though, the Spanish conquistadors came and plundered everything in sight, and thus the statue was forgotten for the several hundred years.
When it was rediscovered in the year 1907, the magic statue traded hands between various private collectors, and at one point was even kept in the Library of Congress, before eventually making it’s way to the location it now sits in 2003. Before this time, it did nothing to make it seem as though it was some sort of device that could bring fiction into reality, simply because it was kept where there were no fictional characters to be brought to life. However, someone thought it was a good idea to place fantasy section simply because it looked "geeky".
The night after, shit happened. Characters literally leapt from the pages of books and ran rampant through the rows and isles. The madness went on all night, and the now freed fictional creatures and people caused chaos and havoc until the morning light, where they were promptly returned to their respective books by the same magical force that had let them roam in the first place. Since then, the library has had significantly higher utilities payments, though they never could figure out why. As for the characters themselves, they still party and have a relatively care-free lifestyle in the library, and most are content with having those twelve to thirteen hours of time to have fun or relax. Some, however, want a permanent stay...
The IC
In this RP, you get to play as your favorite character from any book (or comic, or graphic novel, or manga, etc.) you've ever read. As mentioned above in the backstory, some really have no desire to leave, some want to stay free from their paper confines forever, and some really don't know what to think. Any character can have these feelings, not just villains or the undesirables, so feel free to experiment a little bit with who wants what and why.
Onto the rules:
You hate reading them and I hate writing them, but they are a necessary and unfortunate evil. Luckily for those of you who despise them more than most, I like to follow the policy of "Keep it Simple Stupid". Now then, the rules are:
1) Don't try and pull anything stupid.
2) Fade to black rule applies.
3) Don't be the guy that ruins the OOC for everyone.
4) My word, and that of any Co-OPs I may appoint, is law. Don't poke the bear.
