I've been thinking, though. What happened to the wood-elves?

It's a sort of long story and an equally long process. The Silvan elves did not depart for Valinor in force, save for those who followed Legolas over at the end of the Third Age. However, they do not remain in great numbers in the Middle Earth of today. Basically, over time an Elf's fëa (its soul) eventually grows tired of its hröa (body), and fades into a sort of spirit or wraith. Being in Valinor is a much better place for elven fëa and the fading is almost completely halted. And a elven fëa that has lost a hröa whether through violence, accident, or fading can be reembodied if it goes to Valinor. But even after death, the decision to go to Valinor is still up to the individual elf. Even in Valinor though the fading eventually happens. As they fade the Silvan elves increasingly feel the tug of the of the only place they can truly feel comfortable. And they would be allowed to go. Many will refuse and remain as powerless spirits. Many others will only go in death.

APPEARANCE: http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/2066/mqo6.png
EQUIPMENT: -A dangerous-looking greatsword.
-A Fell Pony as his mount. Don't be fooled by the name- Fell Ponies are very large, and have hearts as strong as horses.
-A wooden roundshield, the mainstay of the Dunlending warriors across the ages.
-A simple pack, and the type of kit a rugged, barbaric traveller would carry.
BIO: Son of the great warlord Gorman, Gethor is a proud and savage Wildman as his ancestors were. He detests what he perceives to be a growing weakness and idleness in his people. Even when Rohan is engaged in battle with Rhun, the men of Dunland refuse to raid the country of the accursed Straw-hairs and burn their villages. Gethor has all the bloodlust of his predecessors, but just as the world has become more technologically advanced over time, so too have the ways of Dunland's warriors. They no longer forego metal armor and weapons, instead embracing the iron and steel gear forged by Gondor and Khazad-Dum. Dunland is still a subsistence farming society, however, living in the most squalid conditions, scratching out a living from the meager mountain earth, just as it was in the Third Age and all times after the Numenorians drove them to the mountains.

Gethor himself has been savage and warlike for as long as he can remember. Even in the days of his youth he reveled in the tales of great exploits that warriors, hunters, and mercenaries brought back from far-off lands. When he came of age, he joined the ranks of the far-ranging wanderers, fighting to earn his place in the world. His travels took him across Middle-Earth, from the West to the base of the Lonely Mountain. Gethor wears a bearskin that he obtained himself in the frigid north. He returned to Dunland only once: when, five years into his journeys, the news of his father's murder reached him. The usurper was none other than his own half-brother, Ghun the Proper, who was of partial Rohirrim stock. Ghun took the chiefdom and set about "civilizing" the Dunlending, with the ultimate goal of making them servile to Rohan. Gethor travelled to Dunland to challenge him, but was barred from entering the region by Ghun's followers. So it has been for a time- the Exile can't return to his homeland. But perhaps a quest that would make Gethor the champion of Dunland might enable him at at last challenge Ghun the Proper.

Gethor's name in Dunlendish means "dark-hair", with "Geth" being "dark" and "(f)or" being hair.

Accepted. Also, I'm surprised that most everyone has made traditional warrior characters, and haven't utilized guns.

You know what? That's what I forgot. I forgot to have Gethor use an arquebus.
Let me just add that. >.>

Oi! Moine's got a pistol.

Plus, early gunpowder pistols weren't that reliable anyway. My character's better off with a bow and arrow.

Actually, no guns yet for Gethor the Exile, Son of Gorman. He'll have to wait until later.

Same for Feorn. He's a little too 'primitive' for such things.

Fair enough. Sometime today I'll try and get my own application up. I'm thinking of making a Human ex-Corsair or ex-Pirate who turned to mercenary work.

NAME: Thurog
SPECIES: Goblin
AGE: 32
PROFESSION: Purveyor of various semilegal services
SKILLSET: Good at killing with knives, although not particularly good at actual combat. He knows his poisons, too. Skilled at sleight of hand, particularly with cards, and removing the contents of a wallet or purse. He's rather small, being a goblin, which serves him well in sneaking into supposedly secure locations. He can also run surprisingly quickly.
APPEARANCE: One of these guys:
Image

EQUIPMENT: Pony, several small knives, a few common poisons and their antidotes, lockpicks, a small crowbar, a bag for carrying equipment and/or valuables (whether his or someone else's), a small amount of money.
BIO: Thurog was raised in the Misty Mountains in a small tribe of goblins. He became known as the town thief by the age of 10. Small, valuable objects tended to simply vanish around them, possibly turning up later in the hands of someone who claimed they had owned it for years. He was eventually cast out from the tribe after being caught stealing their most important possession, an ancient sacrificial knife created by the worshipers of Morgoth. Forced to wander the surface, he became a burglar in the city of Gondor. His specialty was breaking in through a window and opening the door to let accomplices in, who could carry more than he could. While his species, not to mention his crimes, might have brought down the wrath of Gondor's police, he was, for quite a while, never caught, and therefore survived. He expanded his services, becoming a pickpocket, an assassin, a messenger for the sort of messages that the police don't like, and other similar things, even once dabbling in smuggling.

And then everything went horribly wrong.

During a burglary on the house of a wealthy merchant, Thurog was spotted opening the door. After an extensive chase, he was caught. He was locked in a cell while the King was summoned to decide what to do to him. With the use of a few lockpicks hidden on him, he escaped, but was forced to flee to avoid death. He lay low for a few months, until he heard the rumors. There was a gem of incredible beauty, hidden in the White Mountains. And so he traveled to Bree to obtain some of the things he needed. And the rest of his story is yet to be written.

NAME: Margöz Yiltîg, the Deathwalker of Umbar
SPECIES: Númenórean Human
AGE: 34

He knows how to cook well and can tie many different types of knots. He is also very knowledgable about the plants that grow near bodies of water, and their uses.
APPEARANCE: 1, 2
EQUIPMENT: Margöz has two flintlock pistols, and two cutlasses that seem to mimic the old sword of Elvish make. He also has 4 throwing knives, and a pack in which he carries a length of rope, provisions, a whetstone, and flint and box of tender, pouches of gunpowder and extra balls for his pistols, and a pouch with a sizable sum of gold pieces in it. He also has a few small sacks of herbs found mainly near the coasts of Umbar, and a few spices that he has picked up here and there.

It was a very nice movie visually, but I didn't like it that much. The ending was wholly anticlimactic and the story isn't even the real story of the 47 Ronin.

The ending where they all commit seppuku? You mean the actual way the story ends? Also: there's a looooong history of embellishment of the story. It's an epic. Just like the Illiad or the Odyssey, it's different every time it's told. The point of the story is to provide an example of honor, loyalty, and courage in the face of impossible odds. That's what it's always been. And the American movie does this very well.

It was a samurai-based action movie with lots of kickass swordplay and visuals. There was nothing in the trailers to suggest otherwise.
What did you think it was?!
