AGE OF FIRE: The Awakening ( LotR RP | OOC | Sign Ups )

Long past, those dark days of Sauron. Long past, the days of the Elves and the Maiar. Long past, the Elder Ages.

At the end of the Third Age, the Realms of Men prospered, as the reunited Númenórean kingdoms in exile (the Reunited Kingdom of Gondor and Arnor) under King Elessar and later his son Eldarion. Elessar rebuilt the once-ruined northern city of Annúminas and often dwelt there although his throne remained in Gondor. Allied realms such as Rohan and Esgaroth also prospered, as did the protected enclaves of the Shire and the Woses of Ghân-buri-Ghân. Despite the fall of Sauron, there were significant kingdoms of evil Men that had to be dealt with before the White Tree could grow in peace. Éomer fulfilled the oath of Eorl by riding with Elessar to war on the plains of Harad and beyond the sea of Rhûn, driving them back.

But now, Middle Earth is now embroiled in conflict, wrapped in the tumultuous affairs of Men. Rohan fights the incursion of the Rhûn into their territory, fighting spear and sword, arrow and gunfire, against the United Kingdom of the Easterlings.. those Men of evil nature that fought on the side of Sauron during the War of the Ring, those evil Men who now pushed into Rohan after conquering the Rhovanion. The Men of Rhûn lust to repay the bloodshed that the Men of the West wrought upon their defeated peoples at the end of the Third Age.

The Age of the Elves is over. In this age, the Fifth, almost all of the Quendi -- those first Children of Eru -- have passed over the sea to Valinor, the home of the Valar. Their great refuges lay abandoned, and no longer do their gentle serenades echo through the forests.

The Maiar have followed them, or at least the ones we know of. Saruman met his end in the Shire during the Third Age. Gandalf, Radagast, and Galadriel all departed to Valinor at the very end of the Third Age. As far as the world is concerned, the time of the Maiar walking free in Middle Earth is over. Done is their task set unto them by the Valar, and well-deserved is their rest.

Many of the great creatures of the world have now vanished. The Ents failed to find the Entwives, who perished during the War of Wrath, and as such they fell into slumber one by one. Dragons have not been seen in many an Age, having said to have flown farther into the North, past the Forodwaith and into lands uncharted.

The evil creatures of the world have since begun to make a resurgence. The Orcs and Goblins that fled to the East after the War of the Ring have now began to creep back into the West, coming from such places as Rhun, Khand, and Harad. The Trolls have been migrating down from the Ettenmoors and the Forodwaith, and many see this as a sign of dark times to come.

The Dwarves retook Khazad-dûm, and for most of the Fourth Age flourished in their ancient Kingdoms. But as the centuries wore on, their numbers dwindled. Often, the women would not desire to marry, or want a husband that they couldn't have. Similarly, many Dwarven men were too engrossed in their crafts and did not have the time to take a wife and have children. As of now, there are moderately-sized populations of Dwarves in Middle Earth, but their Kingdoms are small and their strength is waning.

The art of concocting gunpowder survived the destruction of Saruman. It was known by the Men of Rhûn and then was adopted by those of Gondor and of Rohan. It has evolved in usage since those days where Saruman used it to blast open the walls of Helm's Deep, and now is of more refined taste in destruction. It was the inventors in Rohan that first made the firearm. Adopting the principles used in the making of fireworks they channeled all of gunpowder's explosive fury into a small pipe, inside of which was a pellet. The pellet tore forth from the pipe and ripped through the solid wooden walls of their laboratory, and thus began the Age of Fire. Now, in these days, flintlock muskets and pistols are common sights, and while they have far from replaced the traditional swords, bows, and spears, they do see abundant use in the hands of warriors and commoners alike.

Image
The world is indeed full of peril and in it there are many dark places.

This is where you come in. You, of the Fifth Age of Middle Earth. You, and adventurer and a risk taker. You, a warrior, a ranger, or simply a wanderer in lust of the tales of the old days. You watch as Rohan and Rhûn fight their war of territory, and as Gondor waits at the side to see who remains in the aftermath. You see the world around you, and you read the stories of Aragorn, of Bilbo, of Frodo and of all those in the Third Age, and you long to travel the land and see what they saw, to fight as they fought. So you throw down your tools and the vestiges of your old life. You take up arms and the life of an adventurer, of a warrior, of a sellsword or a mercenary. You pick up the walking stick of the wanderer, content to travel the land and take in what you can in your travels. But now, there are whispers in the dark alleys, tales of a tome that was lost and now is found. In it, stories of a gem like no other, a gem whose beauty puts the splendor of the Arkenstone to shame. You travel to Bree, and there you tell yourself that you will find a company to travel with, you will revive the ways of old, and you will take the gem back from the White Mountains. Your motives are your own, perhaps it is for the promise of an unworldly payout, of power beyond your dreams, or simply the thrill of going there and then back again. But whatever you want of it, and whomever you are, you are set upon your task. This is the Age of Fire, the last age of the world.

NAME: Faye Rose, known/feared as the "Black Rose" by others within the same profession.
SPECIES: Human
AGE: 24
PROFESSION: Thief/Burglar/Assassin
SKILLSET: As a young orphan Faye was taught how to pickpocket and lockpick, committing crimes unnoticed and blending in with the shadows. On top of these skills, she was later trained in combat, with particular attention to quick kills, using your opponent's strength against them and evasion. Aside from these abilities, she also has a decent knowledge in herblore (more particularly poison) and cooking.
APPEARANCE:
Image

EQUIPMENT: Clothing, assorted armour plating, a cloak and facemask, one concealed dagger, one short sword, six concealed throwing knives, a flintlock pistol, a bag containing supplies (mortar, pestle, assorted herbs and fungi, several potions, several foodstuffs, perfume, etc.), a gold pouch containing sufficient coin, a brown stallion, a black book/ledger.
BIO: As young girl, Faye was orphaned and forced to fend for herself, which pushed her towards crime, resorting to becoming a thief in order to survive. It was a simple life, but that changes when she decided to pickpocket a man who had an ever shadier profession. Rather than taking her life, the assassin that she tried to rob decided to spare her and acknowledged the girls skill and value.

So young and still exuding innocence, he trained her to become a spy, sending her from household to household to gather sensitive information at the demand of any man or woman who had the coin to pay for it. This period of her life brought her much conflict, as each time she changed lives and assumed a new identity she began to question her own identity more and more, eventually becoming unable to recall who she had been before her master brought her in.

It was then that she discarded her old name and adopted the name "Faye Rose", which she felt would add to the air of mystery that stuck around her like a persistent curse...or a blessing. As she got older, Faye was forced to switch from using her adorable innocence to employing the womanly allure grew as she came of age, though the facade she used to extract information from drunken patrons in a bar or perverted men stood contrast to who she really was, the girl locked away behind dozens of alternate identities.

When she became older, her master initiated her in his own arts, assassination. Rather than teach her to rely on brute force and the direct approach, he tried to give her a different set of skills. Herblore, speechcraft and seduction were the main tools in her arsenal, using them to effectively eliminate her mark with little struggle. Of course, she was also taught skills in combat in case things went awry or had to rely on the classic approach of assassination. Since Faye was both a fragile and agile woman, her approach to combat relied more on evasion and guerilla tactics when facing large groups, which has served her well to date.

Rumours have spread about her beauty, as she tends to conceal her face with a cloak and facemask and only few people have seen her face and lived to tell about it, on top of that, people have said that she is even be capable of seducing women. These rumours have made her quite desirable, among both potential clients and interested men.

NAME: John R'Stonire ( Pronounced REH-St-O-Near)
SPECIES:Human
AGE: 20
PROFESSION: Mercenary
SKILLSET: Raised in a brutal area of violence between Rohan and the Easterlings, he was trained at a early age in skilled fighting in battle medics. He is skilled with sword and shield, and knows some decent medical knowledge. He is half-decent at pick pocketing and is good at hand-to-hand combat.
APPEARANCE: I shall get one up soon.
EQUIPMENT: A black horse, named "Shade", a slightly worn-down sword, a dagger near the same condition, a brand new shield, and some herbs.
BIO: John was born into violence and warfare. He grew up in a small village, that was apart of a larger battle zone between the Rohanian and Easterling armies, which was around the vital farming source of The Great River. n his early life, he had to fend with for himself with some basic training from his father and the local blacksmith. Easterling armies would march by the village, as people hid indoors to make it appear as it was another abandoned village. In the resulting chaos, he was trained in more advanced ways to fend for himself and to steal from others, just to survive. He was drafted into the Rohanian army at the young age of 14, showing skill in fighting. The army was low on troops after a large offensive from the Easterlings had been started, surprising many outposts on the river, and leading towards the deaths of so many. Rohan was forced to take children away from their families to fight in the war, to march across the blood soaked plains of the area. He was horrified by what he saw, and after brutal and sadistic warfare that he was forced to participate in for 6 years, he had enough. He deserted the army, and became disgusted with war. He became a mercenary, however, as war was know the only thing he knew.

Second of all, work on that Bio a bit more. Expand on where he was born, and how his early life was.

NAME: Feorn
SPECIES: Beorning
AGE: 34
PROFESSION: Wandering Doctor
SKILLSET: Skilled doctor, large amounts of knowledge on herb lore, knowledge on how to survive in the wilderness, especially Eryn Lasgalen
APPEARANCE: Human Form: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MiDELItWU2Y/UE4w-RfsYkI/AAAAAAAARoQ/ebYi2lOkqL4/s1600/warhammer_fantasy_wolfkin.JPG
Bear Form: http://mysticalrealms.mymiddleearth.com/files/2012/05/12_04_Beorn_sketch001_BW_enh_800.jpg
EQUIPMENT: A large brown horse, Axe, Herbal Bag, Knife, Various powders and poisons
BIO: Feorn Grew up on the edges of Eryn Lasgalen , where his father, also a Beorning, raised him alone. Feorn was raised to be able to live with the forest, learn its tricks, but more importantly, stay away from anyone else.

His father had fallen in love with a human, and had taken her away without thought. He kept her alive because of his love for her, despite her hating him. A few times it came close to the Beorning's bear form killing the woman, but love won out. When the woman gave birth to Feorn, she tried to keep him away from the father, who eventually killed her out of animal instinct. This led to Feorn's dad's depression, and vowed to keep his own evil away from the rest of the world, and went deep into Eryn Lasgalen with his son.

Feorn was kept apart from the world, told that the world held nothing but evil for him, and was strictly told to stay away from anyone but the creatures of Eryn Lasgalen. However, Feorn was chanced upon by an elf, who was surprised to see a large bear in Eryn Lasgalen. The elf was all the more surprised that the bear turned into a human, but was kept secret from anyone else. this elf however, began to talk with Feorn, and told him of stories about the rest of the world, of Bilbo and Frodo and Gandalf. These ideas fantasied Feorn, who grew up in isolation all his life. He became quick friends with the elf.

However, this friendship led to trouble, as one day Feorn's dad discovered the elf and Feorn, and went ballistic, and in bear form, killed the elf. Feorn, in a desperate attempt to protect his friends, fought his dad, which led to his death. Grief-striken, and now friendless and fatherless, Feorn vowed to never turn into a bear again, and left Eryn Lasgalen. He however, has broken his vow in a drunken or animal instinctive rage, and killed several people. There are rumors now of the great Leaf-Bear, the monster of Greenleaves.

I know its not done, but i should be able to finish it tomorrow, if this kind of character works

I'm very hesitant to accept a Beorning character, but if you can flesh out the character and use him responsibly, then I'll allow it.

Hey.

I want to join.
I've only read The Hobbit and the first LotR book, and seen all the Peter Jackson movies. No Two Towers, no RotK, and definitely not the Silmarillon. Is that okay? I can do homework for stuff and I'll be sure to ask questions as well. I might make a character who reflects my own naivete.

I'm very hesitant to accept a Beorning character, but if you can flesh out the character and use him responsibly, then I'll allow it.

I fleshed his backstory, and limited him using his bear form unless drunk or very very very upset. Is this acceptable?

And your Stewart. Is my updated app accepted, or does it need more work?

I'll accept you, but on a sort of probation. Watch your spelling and your grammar, and we'll get along just fine.

I remember an interview with Peter Jackson where he corrected Jackson.

Jackson, surprisingly, doesn't really know that much about the Tolkien mythos. He has outside advisors that give him most of his information.

I like the restriction on his bear form, but I have a few problems with the backstory. By "spiders of Mirkwood", I'm assuming that you mean Dol Goldur. This is a problem because towards the end of the Third Age it was destroyed by Galadriel. Without Dol Guldur and the presence of a Dark Lord, there wouldn't really be any giant spiders left in Mirkwood, especially since the Elves made a point of clearing them all out.

Second, you said that he found a group of Elves. Elves are so rare in this age in Middle Earth that Feorn would be much more surprised of chancing upon Elves than an Elf would be at chancing upon a Beorning. At most, and I mean at most, Feorn would come across 2, maybe 3 or 4, Elves in Mirkwood. Also, assuming they were not Elves with little to no combat training, they could probably take on Feorn's father between themselves, but I'll let it slide.

I'm good on both of those, but if I mess up please point it out.

Ya, i was doing some reading and discovered the spiders would be gone. I'll edit that out of the app and make it into Greenwood instead of Mirkwood. Maybe if i changed it to just one elf instead also? Feorn's dad would be able to take on the elf, especially if he had surprise on his side.

Yeah, a lone Elf would work better.

As for the name change, Greenwood was what Mirkwood was called until Sauron took up residence at Dol Guldur. It was then renamed to Eryn Lasgalen ("Wood of the Greenleaves") near the end of the Third Age after the cleanse brought about by Galadriel.

gotcha. For some reason i thought the name changed back to Greenwood once the spiders were rid of. But otherwise, the app would be good?

Grief-striken, and no friendless and fatherless, Feorn vowed to never turn into a bear again, and left Eryn Lasgalen. He however, has broken his vow in a drunken or animal instinctive rage, and killed several people. There are rumors now of the great Leaf-Bear, the monster of Eryn Lasgalen.

Accepted. Also, know that you probably wouldn't call it the Eryn Lasgalen, as that's its Elvish name. You'd more likely refer to it as the Greenleaves, but that's just a semantical point.
