The History of the Hellenics

The Hellenics are a group of Greeks born and raised in Hell. The term comes from how the Greek term for Greece is the Hellenic Republic, and also how they were raised in Hell. These Greeks were once slaves of demons, treated poorly and shittily, but then they rebelled and freed themselves, fleeing into the Hell wilds. The demons laughed - who could survive there? That was area nobody tried to go.

The Hellenics did. Twenty years later, they came back, much stronger, and then take over a demon province the size of modern day Namibia. They kicked out nearly all of the demons, keeping a few as slaves, and set up their own government. They allied themselves with Heavensgate, providing some diplomatic bonus and so they weren't utterly wiped out by the demons.

The Hellenics kept this arrangement until 2020, when they joined Heavensgate and Earth against Azazel. Their lands tripled now in size, but there were hundreds of thousands of demons in their lands now. So they immediately put them to work as slave labour, holding a serious, powerful grudge against demonkind. It's a grudge that's built into them, really, as they are raised with anti-demon propaganda since birth.

The Hellenics speak a language that originated from Ancient Greek rather than modern Greek, and takes many influences from Latin and demon languages. A Hellenic would be entirely unable to communicate with a Earth Greek. The culture of this tribe is very much based around the unit, and one is expected to join the military at 16, male or female. The Hellenic military is the centre of their society. It is not just an armed force; it is an all-encompassing public works organization. The military police are also the civic police. The fire brigades serve the civilian population as well as military facilities. Everyone serves in this force for at least a year after they turn 16.

The Hellenics follow a religion that is an odd mixture of Orthodox Christianity and Classical Greek mythology. It's definitely leaned toward the Christian side of things, due to their alliance with Heavensgate and the cultural impact that causes.

The Hellenics are fiercely nationalistic and proud of their heritage. The main industry, despite everything, is surprisingly agriculture. The Hellenics sit on very fertile land and their experiences in the Hell wilds taught them how to farm in virtually any climate.

I do want to do something with these buggers sometime.

It's a pity EH is so big we can't get to everything I want.

I wish I could sit each one down and say, "Write your characters' full history. Nothing ornate or full of fluff. Just start at the beginning and stop when you get to the end." Even a bulleted listing would be fascinating."

Seriously, some (if not all) EH characters have a rich history that isn't reflected in a bland character application sheet. It gets shuffled in IC threads. Would anyone be interested in writing up their character's EH history so it can be preserved? We could do an alphabetized list of some sort and collect everything in one spot? Meh, just a thought.

Hello, here's an airplane... and here's the door. "Don't mind Crowley." (Who?).
Fen is punted out of said airplane, bounces off school roof, practically lands on Loki.
"Oh hello, I'm a god and into the school basement you go!" (You're a god?!)
Fen is suddenly on a beach under the the school, surrounded by pirates who are offended by another character. Uses Loki for a shield.
Fade, fade, fade... not really a fade but a YOINK! Fen ends up in the library where she meets Emi and some others. (Um, hi!)
But now to another adventure! (Hell is a planet?)
Train ride, wild trek in a truck (there were some angels at one point, scary stuff) a ghost town (Woah, Hell IS a planet!)
And the bar... demon liquor is toxic, Emi is spanked until she pukes, trap doors exist in floors, there's a dead knight, and a passage and a VW bug (yay!), and two tunnels, and the car dies (damn), oh look another knight (Hi!), but then everyone in the group catches up (yay!), and OH SHIT SOMETHING IS COMING (fuck!), run - run- run, oh look, a room (whew!). There's a fight going on inside.

Major battle ensues (OMG OMG OMG). Tons of bullets. Tons of magic. Things are dying everywhere. Calhoun merges with Azazel, Excalibur swings, Emi does her stuff, more stuff happens, Sir William beats the crap out of him, he vanishes. The end.

And now we're in Crowley's office/war room (I shall not panic. I shall try to look like I know what I'm doing!) TONS of discussion on a story long-running and near its end.
