The Samferþafólki are descended from a group of families who left the frozen fjords of Norway by a rudimentary boats and settled along the coast of Iceland, they call themselves the Samferþafólki (meaning the travel/travelers). As such they take on many typically Scandinavian physical characteristics. They are often of tall and stocky build. With blond hair and blue eyes. Their skin is fair. Their language and culture is loosely based around modern Icelandic, with belief in Pagan gods at the center of their life. Their are at at least 150 gods with about 50 of them patrons of different clans and chiefs. The other 100 are governors of nature, such as the wind, fire, water, ice etc. Their surnames take on the name of the first name of the mother for males, and the first name of the father for females, attaching "sson" (mas.) or "dóttir" (fem.) depending on the gender.
The first names are derived from complimentary words, such as "Þórn" which means healthy. Their language is much different than what it was before they migrated, the language that has developed their is almost foreign to the language of the Samferþafólki, only sharing a few similar characteristics, such as the way surnames are chosen. The Samferþafólki value strength and intelligence as such from early age children work on foraging and building and are taught to memorize the stories of their gods. They are also expected to speak properly and have a full understanding of their languages grammar etc.

The religion as described above is pagan, worshiping some 150 gods, 50 of the gods are patrons of a certain clan or chieftain, while the other 100 are governors of nature, controlling elements such as fertility, ice, water and fire. They believe that no single god is supreme and that every one cannot exist without each other. They have one main story revolving around the god "Þórn" who is god of the sea, and lightning. The story tells how they came to the land they live in now. Their main creation story is that a god who they call the Nameless One created the world and the gods and then disappeared. The story is as follows:
Along time ago there was nothing, just an empty blackness. In that blackness however rested a cloud, on that cloud rested an egg. The egg never cracked it remained motionless, the cloud however floated around all over the blackness. One day the cloud bumped into a being a being known as the Nameless One, the Nameless One, curious as to what was in the egg broke it open. Out spewed the world. Everything was chaotic, with no gods to rule over nature harmony could not exist, so the Nameless One created the gods, and the stars and the universe. And everything was harmonious. The Nameless One was never seen again.

The Samferþafólki lived in a land far, far away, where it was prosperous and filled with animals to eat, the rivers overflowed with fish and sap overflowed from the trees. The Samferþafólki where hunters and fisherman, they never went hungry. One day however things where different the fish all lay dead along the shores, the animals would not be slain by anything and the sap had become poisoning, using what little sap they had left and birch bark they made canoes and began to paddle away to search for anew home. While traveling across the sea a mighty storm arose lightning struck the canoes and they began to sink, the god Þórn not wishing for them to die made a net, and then pulled them out of the sea, he then created a huge canoe, made of stone. He commanded them to head west, to Íslendinga (what they call their land) and told them that this canoe would not break nor sink. When they got to Íslendinga they where amazed, everywhere their was hot springs contrasting the cold. They found whales, fish, seals and puffins. they soon crafted a new life for themselves and the new generations.

Well, the iron age is not open, and in fact almost done. The next era, Early Antiquity, has a few people entering the scene, and there is room for you as well, but you'd have to change your location. If you accept entering in the Late Antiquity stage, then you're accepted. Keep in mind though, that even then Iceland is pretty much a volcanic mess and nothing much else, so you'd have trouble actually expanding, due to the fact that your sailing would be a little below-par.
