Introduction
You lie on the dirty, packed mud floor of some excrement-smelling hovel. What is supposed to pass as a home in this part of the world. your nostrils fill with the smell of urine, blood, and cordite. Looking out a crack in the dilapidated shack, the parted corrugated tin walls offer a view of the field in front of you. a pair of burning pickup trucks sit, frames alight, thick columns of smoke billowing from engine blocks and truck beds, the smell of burning bodies filling the senses with their sweet and sticky smell, a sickening odour. the fires have spread to the knee-level bush grass, most certainly concealing the two score rebels that you're supposed to be burying by now. A flock of birds takes flight as on the other side of the village an automatic weapon stutters, sounding like a Russian-made assault rifle. A short radio burst, a flurry of communications traffic, and the threat is finished. Now, another man clad in black crawls over to you, dragging a rifle that costs more than the village it is currently being carried through. "The QRF is down, but there is no way they didn't get a radio call out. We need to move, now."
After gathering what remains of your team, a quick head count is done. Aside from those airlifted out, the gang was all there. Most men spent the time in formation to check magazines or adjust gear, some drank water from their canteens, chugging the clear liquid that was more valuable than gold in this land. Squad leaders conferred with a map, trying to find a tertiary route to the refinery. "SUVs are fucking toast. RPG and small arms fire took out the engines or just damaged the internals too much. Corporate gonna flip when they hear that their wheels are totalled." spoke a squad leader, stuffing the map back inside a pouch attached to his vest. "Yeah, you think they'd care that Tommy and Jax bought it. But nope, a late-model SUV is worth more than an employee's life." You scoff. "Typical capitalism." Those within earshot laugh, and one of the squad leaders makes a self pleasurable motion whilst on the radio explaining said situation to the Command Post back at the government-held air force base. "Sparkplug 1-1 on your feet!" you bellow, watching those that were kneeling or lying down, trying to catch some sleep jolt upright. "Scouts take point! Lets go!" Mercenaries heft ruck sacks, lower rifles, and begin their weary march. Because someone, somewhere was paying them to do bad things. But bad things made bad money, and that was the best kind.
The Backstory
In 2023, the global wars on terror have slowly drawn to a close. Taxpayers, politicians, and soldiers alike have all come to one conclusion. This is not that war is bad, war is immoral, but war is expensive. As seen throughout the Iraqi War and the War in Afghanistan, Private Military Contractors, or PMCs have serviced the needs of the military, doing the same job they do logistically, but at a fraction of the cost.
Enter the United Nations, in their typical do-good attitude. Be it through coercion or political maneuvering, somehow the fine folk in the General Assembly and Security Council have signed a resolution. A resolution that bans countries, and prevents them through high financial and embargo penalties, to keep their armed forces within their own borders. Now here is where the line becomes oh so thin. The resolution still permits defense contractors to pursue contracts internationally, and repealed the ban on the use of foreign nationals to fight wars, as there will be no foreign nationals fighting in other countries. The United Nations just allowed the mercenary profession to come into the 21st Century.
Here comes you, a new company, looking to make its way in this suddenly high demand market. Your job is simple. Do the job that governments need you to do. Buy weapons, vehicles, and go out there to the third world hell holes that are crisis areas and make some money. And we're talking real money. So build your company, from the ground up, and win those contracts, Kill civilians, sure. but who wants to hire a company that has bad PR? Build your company right, and make millions. Build it wrong, and end up in the Congo with no bullets because you didn't buy a freight plane.
The year now however, is 2025. After several upstart companies failed during the last set of global conflicts, the demand for mercenaries has skyrocketed. Large, fat contracts are being handed out, and the defense industry is booming. Companies are going to be given more money, more freedom, and looser rules of engagement as a result. build your company, and start earning money. because someone else will.
Introduction
So hey! Welcome to the RP. Basically, this is a Hard-MT group, dedicated to building a company from the ground up. you will bid for contracts, negotiate, debate against each other. And when deployed, fight out your small little wars using the company you built. You saw it above. Want to transport your armoured SUVs to Zimbabwe to seize some oil fields? great! No way to get them there? Well you better hire another company or else you just stole $16 million dollars from the United States government!
When you sign up, you build a rough framework of your company. I will help flesh it out, in addition to any volunteers that wish to add their knowledge in the area of war/military to this RP. Fill out an app, and then hop on the IRC! Simply follow the link and enter your nick and the channel #GlobalInferno to talk! I try to be on the IRC as much as possible.
For those of you that remember Chapter 1, it went well, bad had some issues. Now, let me address the major issues.
1. Activity - I expect a decent level of activity, several posts a week, as well as involvement in discussion. OPs and FRAKs are putting a lot of their own personal time, it is expected that you appreciate that.
2. Detail - OPs and FRAKs are here to help, ask them a question and let them get your company to Stage III.
3. Contracts - I will be flooding the contracts page with options, in the expectation they are snapped up.
4. Equipment - I'll be launching a Global Economics & Trade company dedicated to selling people prefabricated vehicles and weapons, for those that can't research to save their lives.
Staged Approval
In this RP we have 3 stages of approval. Stage 1, is getting your app up and approved. This involves filling out the app provided below, and then getting said application approved. Stage 2 is building your company. This requires detail, and lots of it. You'll be crunching numbers. From the average salary of your contractors to pilots, cost of vehicles and maintenance, and calculating logistics and researching equipment to use. Stage 3 is implementation. When a new contract on the page goes up, companies are allowed to bid for it. This is done simply by posting their intent to take the contract. If they win it (Decided by OP/co-OP conference) then they get to add that amount of money to their ledgers for that year. More money, bigger company. Bigger company, better ability to win contracts. better ability to win contracts, more money. Get the idea?
Realism
As said above, this is Hard-MT. So we will ensure that nothing stupid is done. For example, you can't fit 45 SUVs into a helicopter. C'mon. This is real life, or is it fantasy? Just kidding, real life. That means, when you post your intent to deploy, we'll limit you to what you can actually physically take as per your logistics. Then we'll compare that to your threat, tell you how many people died and how many vehicles/aircraft you may have lost, and if you were successful. Were you successful? You get the rest of the money (Hint: most contracts are half up front, half upon delivering the service)!
Gameplay
Once you have a Stage 3 company, you will be added to the stock market, an index of who is pulling down the most money annually, or after four quarters, if you want to use financial terms. Obviously, you'll start at the bottom. The stock market also reflects on how successful of a company you are. So if you are consistently screwing up contracts and haemorrhaging money, you'll drop like an anvil in a swimming pool. Start bids for small contracts, that most large companies will likely ignore. I mean, if you made $250 million on your last contract, $3 million is just pocket change. Moving up in the stock market is good, means that you have a better chance of winning a bigger contract. When bidding, as described above, you'll simply post in the contracts thread, and place your intent to that government that you wish to service their need. If you win that contract, you'll be given a deployment thread, and post what you intend to deploy. If the OP conference approves it, then you'll be given approval, and then you will be given the outcome of your deployment, and what actually made it out of War-Torn Genocide-Ridden Country XYZ. Pick up your cheque, and then go buy more equipment! Or replace the stuff you lost. Remember, what equipment you use and field does have an effect. If you send guys in unarmoured pick-up trucks to fight a small-scale war, you're going to get hit in the wallet, hard.
Equipment
Everything within the parameters of the MT period is acceptable. Want to buy a TOW missile and mount it to a Chevy SUV? Sure. Bolt on armour? Sure. Ta-da! you have a vehicle to use. With a price tag to take into account for your annual expenses. No PMT technologies, the equipment you must use cannot be experimental, that means no underslung EMP rounds, etc.
Rules
1. OPs and co-Ops are the law. Disobey them and consider yourself gone. Listen to FRAKs, they are smart people who have been given their job for a reason.
2. Don't bother applying if you don't intend to stick around. There is a minimum activity level that you are required to keep up.
3. Keep profanity on the OOC to a minimum, IC use it as necessary and with NS rules and guidelines.
4. Follow the templates, they are there to help.
5. Keep your company profile updated, because if an OP needs to check something, we expect accurate information.
6. Don't be disappointed if things start to go bad! In seconds that can be turned around.
7. Be patient. There is going to be a lot of threads to keep track of, and unless I get some co-OPs, I'll be out here trying my best to keep everything running.
8. Let an OP know if you need a break or to take leave. i'm not here to chain you to NS, but I do expect you don;t drop out on me unexpectedly.
