My armies will consist, in the beginning of hordes of decently disciplined infantry, until I can get my hands on some camels, wood, iron, etc. Then phalanxes and elephants here I come.

I'm neither for nor against. As long as SOME form of HoM is here I'm fine. As for end of world, someone could have tried making a powerful WMD (say nuke) early and it ended up destroying everything, either slowly or rapidly. All depends on the screw up.
