Shimon-Zhivago's next RP: "Day of the Diktat"

PostPosted: Tue Dec 10, 2013 4:27 pm
by Shimon-Zhivago
Greetings, gentlemen! Shimon-Zhivago, here. Apparently people liked the last RP I made (1870s Real-World), so I thought that, although I can't be that active on NS for the next month or so, I should plan a new RP. This page will thus be dedicated to the various ideas I have and input from friends and enemies alike. Nothing special here, just informal discussion.

I have been juggling two ideas for RPs:

#1
The first would be NS based; that is, you would play your NS nation. It would thus be fictional, but the rules of realism for a Real-World RP would apply. It would be set somewhere between 1750 and 1800, taking place in a custom region that I would design. Twenty or so countries would be allowed to make up a small corner of the region, while the rest of the map of the region would be black out; this would require exploration to take place for nations willing to expand. This would be a diplomacy/domestic/war themed RP as was my last one, but hopefully with less emphasis on war.

#2
The second would be a Real-World RP, but not the usual war-themed one. This would be set in Germany in the 1920s, and players would be able to play one of the real-life political factions (i.e. Nazis, Commies, Socialists, Social Democrats, Anarchists, Monarchists, etc.) vying for control of the state at that time. Meetings, protests, rallies, fights, and more could be held; I would act as the collective German government/military, and things would be made to progress in such a way that elections for the Reichstag would be held periodically. I have studied this era of Germany's history and find it incredibly fascinating, and it would be interesting to see what other ways History could have played out.

Due to overwhelming vocal support and slight voting support, I will be going with option #2 for now, and perhaps do option #1 later.

That RP can be found here: http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=276462&p=18034050#p18034050

Suggesting a satire of imperialist world politics set in a gangster-infested city, tackling the various issues of slavery, exploitation, disease through allegory.

Know what? I'm going to poll the options in order to keep track of the numbers.

If it is #2, I would be willing to play as the Social Democrats. Will this be AH or following RL?

RL. But, of course, different decisions can be made, so long as they are realistic. This will eventually create a very different outcome that what really happened.

K, I'll put the poll up now. Please Vote!

I like the first one, mainly because it doesn't require us to be experts on German politics, thus not restricting many possible RPers.

It sure will be. However, it requires a very specific set of knowledge, a set which many people don't have.

I don't think it'll be too über detail-oriented. A glance at Wiki should do the trick, and the OP will have a lot of info.

I don't know much about it, so I have to trust you there.

Anyway, my vote still lies with the first one. So many variates of outcomes!

Well, as before, I'd be willing to make apps. with links to specific wiki articles in order to educated the not-so-well versed. But you do bring up a good point.

I love both ideas, but right now favor the first, because there aren't any exploration-themed RPs, plus it would be nice to have war be not such a focus, plus I'd get to use my imagination more in regards to the RP (seeing as I'd be playing a fictional country), plus I'm very interested in the colonial era.

I'd title the first idea "Age of Empires: NationStates," and the second one "Day of the Diktat." But I'd be willing to change either of those.

You miss the point. Option 1 is NS based: you would be playing "Seljuq Kyiv."

Germans called the Versailles Treaty the "Versailles Diktat." Look up "Diktat" on Wikipedia. It basically means dictation or order. Since most Germans were opposed to the treaty, they didn't consider it a treaty; instead, they viewed it as an ultimatum handed down to them by the Allies.

Oh, a dictatum!

Yeah, that makes sense. Germany and Russia are strangely close, culturally.
