Because that completely removes the "fantastical" elements from the story. It also means that, as OP, Hath would then be required to offer an explanation, at some point, of HOW said person was able to spray liquid nitrogen from their fingers.

Science is, by definition, be something that's quantifiable and repeatable under controlled experiment. Magic, again by definition, is not.

Given that he's bringing Nazi Super Science into this, I have to imagine that there's going to be a fair amount of science in lay, possibly "forcing" the ancient magic into the world, or strengthening it through technological means?

Forcing and directing the magic, I'd say. Combining them would be a good thing, too. Instead of firing one frost spell, one could imbue a belt of ammo wiht a frost spell and fire a hundred of them in a few seconds.

What if magic was, at first, restricted to one side, but as the story progressed, some characters, at the OP discretion, and possibly through story actions, could gain access to it?

Perhaps.

I've thought of artifacts that give people certain supernatural abilities, personally. Fits well with the overall theme, I reckon. They'd look like common items, but carry an associated ability.

For example, a magically infused battery would allow it's wielder to control the flow electricity.

Just a thought.
