It's not that his voice is necessarily unpleasant; it's just that he reads his stuff like he's being shown no more than three words at a time. Emphasis is all over the place. I'm pretty sure there are some pretty severe mispronunciations. He pauses constantly, to the point where you can't tell a comma break from the end of a sentence.
Your research is good, dude! Just don't be so stilted!

Yo!
It looks AMAZING - he's up to 140 episodes over three years and he's just started covering Barbarossa and the summer of '41, which means he's on about the same time frame as ES (HAHA, funny funny), and there's all kinds of great linked maps and recommended primary sources and long, 10-episode digressions about Churchill's life story (I eat that stuff up with a spoon), but Jesus, it is a chore to actually sit and listen to.
Hire a voice actor, dude! Hell, hire me, I could probably do a pretty good job!

Anything in particular or just the entire thing?
I always watch trailers with a pinch of salt since we've had epic trailers for really crappy films and vice versa.
That said I imagine the biggest problem with the new film is going to people's nostalgia for the TV series.

It just struck me as, I don't know, poor. We'll see, I suppose, but I'm not optimistic.

And then they decided to rip off Wrath of Khan....
