If anyone is going to share a parachute, it would be Noble and Talbot, considering they're both about the same weight to begin with.

Seeing as how Talbot was basically tiny to begin with and has been on starvation rations for weeks, I'd be concerned in making sure the parachute opening wouldn't tear his shoulders apart.

Looks pretty nasty if you ask me, shouldn't like to be face to face with a fellow with one of those. Might not work so well, but it looks down right scary. Definitely not the most scary thing named "Apache" mind.

According to my "World's Worst Weapons" book here (in which the Apache features), apparently actually shooting the gun was mostly useless as the caliber was very small and actual speed of the launched bullet was very slow, to which is added the fact that all the gasses were ejected basically right onto your fingers and hand. The blade's fairly flimsy as well.
The knuckleduster piece works fairly well, though.

Yes, but your average bloke doesn't know that. All they see is a gun, knuckleduster and bayonet rolled into one. I mean, a close range weapon, especially if you're mugging/robbing someone in the street (which I assume someone with weapon like that probably is, because if it was a hit or something like that you'd probably take something a little more reliable. .38, anyone?), probably benefits more from looking scary than actual killing power. If you don't know how useless the weapon is and someone pulls a combo bayonet, knuckleduster, pistol on you, it'd probably be a case of

"Here's my wallet. Have a good one, mate."

That's assuming that he'd even be able to pull the rip cord with his left hand.

Yeah, riding the plane in is starting to sound like the more attractive option...

Know that all too well.

The old PoW camp near where I first lived is listed as being in the wrong place in a single book that everyone has taken as fact (including English Heritage) despite all the other books on it and photographs clearly showing it to be in a completely different location.

Will post in Highwire later, presently 6am here and I have to leave for work soon.

You know, I've always wanted to screw around and make a more effective multi-weapon design. I'm thinking combination shotgun, baseball bat, and machete.

It's French, what did you expect?

the french do seem to have a tendency to screw up weapons.

I'm sure the Brits here will have to disagree at least in some way, or at least anyone serving in the Royal Navy during the 80's; there's a big reason of why sales of *ahem* that thing *cough* skyrocketed after the Sheffield went down.

Yes, I'm well are of the fact of how the warship was overloaded with aluminum and magnesium in order to lighten it up as to shorten the trip to *ahem* them islands *cough*. But still, a fire has to have some sort of spark.

Also: Mirage, Mystere, Super Etendart. All French, all sold well (ish) over seas.

1. I should have specified hand held weapons.
2. Magnesium is actually really fucking flamible, and tends to explode when touched by water. we have to use special extinguishers to put out magnesium fires because hose lines make it worse.

Truth be told the SA80 was a pretty crappy weapon, had to be redesigned by H&K to become halfway decent.

More like M16 compared w/ A1-onwards. As in the M4 isn't bad, but the original M16 was bad, as was the original L85.

Why are we so bad at making weapons now?

I want the M14 back.
