Also, I thought this was worth sharing with y'all.

I received an information packet from the Air Force Academy based on my PSAT scores yesterday. They've requested that I attempt to gain a nomination and apply to them.

You mean a service academy is actually trying to recruit you?

Not really. They just "strongly encouraged" me to continue along with the process to obtain a nomination because my scores met their requirements.

Did you actually express any interest to them in going to the Academy, or did they just up and send this to you out of the wild blue yonder *Giggle!*?

I see what you did there.

I requested information and they asked for my PSAT scores on that form.

Apparently it was enough to warrant a response.

OK, now that makes sense. If it was just "Dear *insert name here*, we saw you had high PSAT scores, have you considered applying to the USAFA?", that would be highly unusual.

I've heard of it happening, but I know it mostly only happens with the few football/baseball/basketball players who are really good and have decent grades.

Nothing. I reported it in the spam megathread, but the mods seem to have missed it.

Don't hold your breath. They couldn't even give Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Harry Brown a full US release, and those actually had some legit star power behind them.

Right you are boi.

Might've been some event going on at Robertson Barracks, did hear sounds of a fair or something from that direction which the jet also flew (ie over the camp).

Has to be. No other reason for him to be that low - I mean, there's a military exercise area somewhere off the East coast (without my charts, I can't remember where it is), but you'd not be flying that low to get there. So yeah, probably a demo (in which case, it was probably a 29R Squadron aircraft). The Typhoon demo runs in to display at 100-300 feet, hence why he was so low.

Way, way too low to be transiting to there. If he was as low you say, and he wasn't running in to display, then I suspect the good folks at the CAA and his superiors might want quite a frank word upon landing.

So tonight I've been seeing the World of Tanks commercial with the American, British, German, and Japanese tankers giving their little pep talks and the voiceover guy asking "Who will win?".

I so wish that I was in that commercial just so I could answer "Definitely not the Japanese guy".
