The officiating crew was doing a terrible job in general. There was that play and two pass interference calls that the TV announcers didn't even think should have been called.

If you attach it anywhere but the bayonet lug, then what's the point? If you do attach it to the bayonet lug, then the business end is going to become heavy as fuck.

Devil's Advocate: Weight could be reduced by drilling some holes in it. Any additional weight would serve to reduce recoil, and, at the expense of the life of the edge, the blade could be dug into something (such as a chunk of wood, or a corpse) to serve as additional stabilization.

Surely the holes aren't weakening it that much. I mean, so long as they're placed far enough behind the edge, I don't see much issue.

Still going to be heavy as you like, on a gun that's already hefty. Digging in the blade when you fire it all kinds of fun things would happen with the recoil, I expect.
