Hey, any interest in the northern alliance between Canada, Norway, Sweden and Denmark? I think that would be really cool since we all share an 1)Arctic culture. Maybe Russia can join later.

It would be an interesting 2)alternative to the EU, which let's be honest, 3)kind of sucks for the current Nordic members. Canada would be willing to commit significant resources to this endeavour.

2) The EU has been excellent for Scandanavia. Look at their export partners - they're for the most part fellow EU members.

Yes, there are allegations of it being a 'better deal' for the southern states, and yes, these have some truth to them, but the EU, when not forced into an awkward position because national politicians decide to make it into a political punching-bag, benefits all it's members.

Isn't it also more of a problem about something like, Ukraine's talk of future puppet nations in Africa? Or Venezuela's invasion of Bolivia, instead of just some future Nordic and Canada alliance.

Indeed, Germany is a large trading partner for Sweden. However Sweden has not seen a huge rise in standards of living and economy since the entry into the European Union in 1994. Rather the opposite. However, the EEA is a different thing, and Sweden has been a part of it for a long time. I am advocating for a leaving of the European Union, not the European Economic Area.
