Sure, but this won't be for another 2,000 years. Also, all of the Norse settlements in the Americas were destroyed or abandoned soon after their construction.

The earliest records of cavalry were from around 1000 BC. But yes, stirrups weren't in use until much later.

Point one: Phoenicia did the exact same thing I'm doing, earlier in time actually.

Point two: There are between 3000 and 3500 Battlelords in the various Majopolises sum total. As for Cappadocia et al, those were different military units, from different governmental entities. The force that fought in Syria is still in Syria. As for why they took the area; land, markets, resources, arable farmland. A variety of reasons. As far as consolidating land, that's what Bandsmen are for. They are levies, garrison troops to hold down colonies and provide security.

@ Hay: Oh no. That would be silly. Bandsmen are a motley mix of iron, bronze, and copper, depending on how rich their families are. Only Battlelords are outfitted by the state.

Hmm, still, Phoenicia had colonies, not big chunks of countries.

It looks like Greece is right on the border between 1300 and 1500. Considering that, and the fact that it's 1400, I think I'll allow chariots South of the Balkans.
