As long as the kites don't deliver gunpowder bombs, knock yourself out.

Name of Civilization: Makakai Hegemony
Location: On the Mississippi, between Memphis and the mouth of the Ohio. How many territories can we start with?
Specialty (warfare, farming, trade, etc.): Farming.
Nomad or Settled: Settled
History: The fertile Mississippi valley was one of the earliest settled places in North America. Farming communities planting maize, squashes, beans, little barley and New World wild rice (no paddy farming yet, though) gradually grew in size and became organized over the centuries, and eventually the city of Makakai organized enough of a military presence to exert hegemony over the various city-states, mostly through political/psychological pressure rather than outright conquest. They are still farmers rather than warriors, but the Makakai began to become more expansionist, endeavouring to bring civilization to the surrounding barbarous lands.
Culture?: A sort of blending of Old World Mesopotamian cultures like the Sumerians and New World First Nations cultures like the Cherokee.
Politically, numerous city-states (consisting of a walled town and its surrounding area) are united under the hegemony of a leading city. The leading city's influence waxes and wanes according to the personal prestige, competence and influence of its ruler, and changes of hegemon from one city to another are not uncommon down the ages.
Socially, there is a lot more equality between men and women than you would normally find in your average ancestral Old World culture. City rulers and chieftains are men, but their advisors are councils made up of the leading women of the city, and land ownership is tied to the female sex.
After the completion of their Rite of Passage at puberty, young men are inducted into one of several Warrior Societies, while women have their own societies associated with various crafts or with agriculture.
Religion-wise, there is a lot of perceived overlap between the physical and the spiritual worlds. To an extent, everyone is their own priest, attaining spiritual power for daily life through interactions with various spirits. Powerful shaman-priests serve as conduits for what is seen as greater spiritual power, and function as spirit trouble-shooters to whom people may go for aid or counsel. Interaction between people and spirits is a web of obligations and payments, and ritual bloodlettings and the occasional human sacrifice are practiced.

I'll be soon crossing the mountains to the north to grab some agricultural land around south Dakota. From there, more expeditions may be launched. Expect us to find you in 2-3 posts.

OK. I expect to be advancing up the Mississippi and Missouri valleys during that time. Is this a "one-territory-added-per-post" regime like last time?

That's what the posting regime was in ARR 1.0.
Edit: BTW, in looking up the mineral resources of my area, I discovered that coal mining goes way back to the Bronze Age. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_coal_mining
I had no idea. Suddenly, parts of Ohio and Pennsylvania become potentially important.
