I doubt Morocco could have 100,000 with a pop of 5 million. 30-40,000 would be more along the lines.

If you have 5,000,000 you are allowed to have 250,000 soldiers.

That is realistically not allowed. The Logistics and economy would make it fail.

It's not realistic. Morocco wouldn't be able to sustain that many soldiers. The logistic and economic burden would be to great.

Algeria's rich in agriculture (supplies the bulk of the region's food (including France later on)), slaves, and commerce.

Besides, he's just following the setup made by the OP.

There wouldn't be any reason for Morocco to maintain such an army in peace time. In war time, of course, they would be able to amass an army of such size.

That is a good point, I must admit. Perhaps 1.5% of his population for a standing army?

I'm afraid they have done so in real life:

You aren't at war. You just have horrible relations with Castille, Aragon and Portugal all who most likely have superior fleets and weapons and are most likely going to gang up on you.

Well, it was extremely uncommon to have an army larger than, say, 30,000 men (for European countries) ready during peace time regardless of the size of the country (of course, the smaller, the smaller the standing army, but it wasn't all about size, wealth was very important as well. Many countries relied in majority on mercenaries whenever in peril..). I must add that I have seen countries maintaining 200,000 earlier and they seem to have got away with it, so if we plan on forbidding such numbers now we should level the playing field.

I have chosen a 15,000 standing army for a population of 1.3M (1.1%), I think 1.5% is indeed more realistic. I'm not sure whether everyone understands we're talking about a standing army.

If you consider yourself at war (or close to war), you could go into "war mode" and amass an army. Remember this is likely to ruin your economy and it will make your populace unhappy over time.

Regarding Kahlenberg´s comment.
I fielded 200.000 (if I am not wrong) considering I got a large territory and population under my contorl at the time. Also, I am giving a close lecture to the Inca history and it seems they were pretty much able to field such armies. By the time I am playing, wikipedia argues the Emperor commanded 200.000 troops in one army. Should be noticed, these are guys wield copper spears and slingers. Best troops have bronze maces and iron has not been introduced to the military.

Sure, I believe the Inca could field an army of 200,000 in wartime. But do you really think they had 200,000 men waiting somewhere in barracks, devoting their entire life to the military? Most probably the core of such armies existed out of untrained farmers, that could be called to war whenever there was need for that. I remember to have seen a documentary about the Inca's once that claimed they had some sort of conscription-like system to amass an army in times of war.

Exactly, that´s how I picture them. Maybe the core army is less than 20.000.
