No one is gonna think positively of Gorbachev because he let the Soviet Union crumble, which is a fallacy since people say Putin is better than the USSR (case in point, you), but people think Gorbachev was bad because he failed it. :U Though others may feel otherwise, but this is generally what I've encountered.

Lenin was pretty good. He was probably the only actual communist in the whole damn Soviet Union. Sadly his plans for communism were hijacked by Stalin and could never really get there.

Stalin was very bad. Killed a lot of people. Millions of people. Tens of millions of people. But he wanted the Soviet Union to stay out of any and all wars, because he knew that the economy of the USSR hung in the balance. He even personally signed no-war pacts with Nazi Germany, Finland, and Poland. Of course Nazi Germany invaded Poland so that didn't work out, but he tried.

Khrushchev maybe didn't kill as many people, but unlike Stalin he gave off the public appearance of being freaking terrifying. Unlike Stalin, Khruschev deliberately did the job of scaring the American people. And he did it well; talk to any "cold war child" that grew up in the 70s or 80s, they'll all say the same thing: that they were always afraid of the Soviets nuking America at any given time.

Gorbachev was a pansy who destroyed his own country.
