Stormy Waters (OOC, Sign Ups Open)

Postby Terripin Array » Sat Nov 02, 2013 9:52 pm

Dead men tell no tales....

IC: http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=269037

Welcome to the Carribean lad, as well as to Stormy Waters, a pirate RP where you'll create the ultimate swashbuckler of the seven seas to battle against the Spanish and British navies for the freedom of every man, woman, and child that call themselves pirates.

The year is 1716, and the Carribean has become a safe haven for all pirates who seek its clear skies and sandy beaches. The British Royal Navy has set its sights on Cuba, a large Spanish colony in the Carribean, and plans on taking the island for the Royal Crown. The Spanish have caught wind of this and have started patrolling the Carribean waters and occupying the islands surrounding Cuba and Haiti. The pirates taking refuge hear are starting to take up arms, beating up soldiers in taverns all across the Carribean. Soon, very soon, they will take this small uprising to the next level and start an all-out war with the Spanish. After that, the British will be next.

So, are you going to join these brave freedom fighters and take back your home? Or are you going to just ransack and pillage any and all ships in your path until you are the King of the Carribean? Either way, lad... hoist the Colors and grab a bottle of rum! We set sail YESTERDAY!

This will serve as an example app, as well as the first accepted character app.

Character Name: Thomas Richardson

Nickname (Optional): William Hachet

Age: 47

Gender: Male

Appearance: Hachet wears a black coat with dark blue accents, a black vest over a white long-sleeved shirt, a thick leather sash running from his left shoulder to his right hip, dark red sash across his waist, loose grey pants and dark brown leather cuffed boots, along with a blue bandanna over long, dark brown hair with streaks of gray in it. He is of a very muscular build due to years of life before the mast, a golden tan from long weeks at sea, and a brown and grey, well-trimmed beard.

Position (Captain, quartermaster, etc.): Captain

Personal History: Born in London, England, Thomas Richardson grew up on the streets with nothin' but a name and a will to survive. He 'made a living' by pick-pocketing the guards and other people with a few pounds on 'em. At the age of seventeen, Thomas tried to get a few more pounds than normal from the captain of the guard, and got caught. Well, when the captain trieed to arrest him, Thomas bolted. The captain went after him, along with half the city guard. Thomas couldn't evade them like he normally did, which was to get his friends and fight 'em off; every single one of his friends had gone to the Royal Navy, however, to redeem themselves and get a new life at sea. Thomas decided then, right there and then, to get away from the shit hole known as London. He made his way to the docks and was unknowingly spirited away to the Carribean, where his new life began.

For three decades, Thomas Richardson sailed under the nickname of William Hatchet, a pirate that became a force to be reckoned with over the next few years. He became a living a legend.

Ship Details (Captain only): The Hurricane is a frigate outfitted with 50 cannons total; 24 per broadside, two bow cannons. She has copper sheathing on the bottom, as well as an iron battering ram on the bow. Her sails are white, and she flies the black flag with a simple white skull on its face. Her figurehead is a skeleton with his right arm outstretched, a sword in his hand.

And here we go:

Character Name: Lilia Mauser

Nickname (Optional): "Red" Lily

Age: 27

Gender: Female

Appearance: Lily wears a long, red coat overcoat over a black blouse, two crossing leather sashes over her chest, a wide leather belt, black leggings, boots (the real kind), and a red bandanna over her neck. She is 5'2" and has olive skin. Her long, wavy hair is a reddish-brown and she has a scar over her left eye that left it a milky white color with a red line through it vertically and blinded her, she doesn't cover it. Her other eye is grey. She has a lithe frame and...well small breasts.

Position (Captain, quartermaster, etc.): Kapitän...Captain

Personal History: Born in Württemberg to a prostitute, Lilian was left alone immediately after her birth. A nun, however took the infant to the Nunnery to be raised as a "right and proper young lady" until she was adopted by a wealthy Dutch couple. The small family shortly thereafter sailed to the New World to look over a few business enterprises that the family had started in the Caribbean. Along the way, however, the ship the family was riding on was boarded by pirates of the Corvette Sanguineum Aurum and her new-found family was slaughtered. The girl, who was now seven, was taken by the pirates and used as a cabin-girl,swab, and rigger and, as she grew older and more trustworthy through years of plundering the seas, a powder monkey and the surgeon's mate. Now in her early teens and fluent in four different languages: English, German, Dutch, and Spanish; Lily had started to become something of a negotiator for whenever the pirates docked for re-supply. Several times she was also used as bait for small military and merchant vessels. After several years of such performances, Lilian used her fooling skills to tempt a Spanish Brig into a sand bar where she beached herself and was quickly cleared of Spanish soldiers and claimed as a prize by the captain, a Sir William Francis. Impressed by the now-young adult's performance, he ceded control of his corvette over to her and took her under his wing as part of his small pirate fleet. She then spent the next few years learning how to control a vessel and the men aboard it until, just a few weeks ago, her leader was killed in an ambush in a neutral harbor by Spanish ships and his ship reclaimed. Now she sails the Caribbean in search of revenge against the Spanish crown and enough loot to keep her now-restless crew from mutinying.

Personality: She is usually polite and quiet and has enough manners that she can pass herself off as a learned lady, but in truth she has a cold hate for all things Spanish, enjoys trying to out-drink her crew, and has a generally joyful and loud personality with friends.

Weapons: Lily carries six flintlock pistols on the sashes across her chest and two English flintlock muskets across her back, at her waist she carries a set of daggers that she always has on her. She also has a small buckler that she uses left-handed usually. She rarely uses her daggers and instead is known for using a musket and buckler together, the musket a makeshift spear with its bayonet.

Weaknesses (REQUIRED): She can barely resist to instantly chase any Spanish military vessel she sees and frankly cannot resist a fat Spanish merchant ship all on its own. She hates when anyone speaks poorly of he former captain or the Dutch and is actually terrible with her daggers, and thus carries a spare musket in case she is disarmed. Her crew is also fairly mistrustful of her abilities as a captain, but lets her stay in the position out of respect to their former leader's wishes. She also is half blind and has pretty poor depth perception because of this, which is one of the reasons she is so bad at using daggers.

Ship Details (Captain only): The Corvette Sanguineum Aurum is a swift, light, maneuverable, one-deck, three-masted vessel. She has a few cannons on board, 12 in total: 2 fore and 2 aft with 4 cannons on either side. However, she also has 8 swivel guns, with 2 at each corner of the vessel. She was originally French and was built with sturdy wood from Quebec before she was claimed by Sir William Francis. She is currently outfitted with a copper-sheathed bottom, white sails, and a French Flag, which is ready to be replaced by half-blind Jolly Roger at any time. She has a complement of 75 men (including the captain) aboard her. She is 28 meters long and has a tonnage of 350 tonnes.

How is that?

She's accepted, amigo. Nice app. Better than mine on the ship details. I'll try to get the IC up when we have a few more players.

Character Name: Ewan Findlay

Nickname (Optional): The Short Scotsman

Age: 40

Gender: Male

Appearance: Ewan is a short but broad man, his height makes him the butt of many jokes towards him, mostly by his crewmates. Aside from this he is a rather stocky and well built from years at sea, he sports a rough black head of hair, not long, but long enough to reach past his ears, this hair transitions into a trimmed beard around his chin and upper lips.
Most of the time he wears a long brown coat with various rips and dirt stains on it, under this is a typical smart, white long sleeved shirt also with various damages and stains, 2 brown leather sashes over this shirt but under the coat, these sashes house various weapons. As for trousers he has a pair of standard black trousers tucked into a pair of sturdy leather boots. On his head he sometimes wears a black tricorne.

Position (Captain, quartermaster, etc.): Captain

Personal History: Of a Scottish decent, born and raised in a town on the south coast of England, a renowned fishing port. His father, a fisherman and his mother a fishermans wife, they lived a decent and trouble free life. Until the 9 years war. Because Ewan's father was a seasoned seaman, he was recruited into the British Navy. Later Ewan and his mother was informed of their fathers death, his ship was sunken by a french frigate.
Ewan continued the fishermans life, only staying in his fishing town to support his mother, who at the age of 55 died due to dysentery. Ewan, now in his early 20's, left his life in England aboard a vessel bound for the colonies, the Frigate which was under command of the Royal navy suffered a mutiny by the crew halfway to the Caribbean, Ewan was thrust into the battle where he could either support the mutiny, or face being thrown overboard like the captain, he chose the former. The Vessel, now commandeered by pirates, began a long campaign in the Caribbean pirating and plundering. He rose the ranks of the ship, finding his way to 1st mate at the age of 30. When the ships captain was killed in a shootout with Spanish Colonial Millitia in Havana, Ewan was elected the new captain, and so with his new ship, set out to continue his journey.

Personality: Ewan is tolerant, calm and collected. Perhaps maybe unnervingly so, even in the heat of battle he can appear distant, though his mind is nearly always on the task at hand. His tactical thinking and strategic mindset is what sets him aside from his former captain, who survived on sheer on luck.

Weapons: 6 Flintlocks strapped to his chest, 3 on either sash. A Navy Saber sheathed on his left side, and a short dagger in his jacket.

Weaknesses (REQUIRED): Ewans kind nature makes him too trusting of others, easy lured by false promises and fake smiles.

Ship Details (Captain only): The Sea Wolf, a medium sized frigate, has an on-board armament of 40 hull cannons, 18 on each side, stacked in 2 rows of 9. 2 Bow cannons and 2 stern cannons as well as 4 swivel guns. She is made from mahogany and oak with white fluttering sails, visible patches show that they have sustained more than its fair share of damage. The Bow houses a Iron naval ram and a figurehead of a wolfs head. The Ship flies the Spanish flag whilst sailing the seas to avoid revealing the fact that it is a pirate vessel, though changes to the common Black with a White skull and crossbones when engaging.

In the ship details, you'd need THREE rows of six to add up to 18 cannons on either side. You may want to check your math. But otherwise accepted.

I was thinking maybe around 10 characters, since you can app up to three characters per player.

Obviously unable to pay, the criminals were forced to take their money by force. In blood. One afternoon when Mongke Oyugun was returning from the outliers of the farm he discovered his parents bodies along with the burning remains of his former home. Without any means of support or family Mongke Oyugun was forced to steal, murder, and smuggle to earn his next meal. His path took him south into China where he became an accomplished smuggler.

Mongke Oyugun found his niche smuggling European goods into the Qing Empire. The valuable European goods fetched a high price due to the isolationist attitude of the Chinese. Through the years Mongke Oyugun became one of the most wealthy smugglers in Asia. His surprising intelligence, and ruthless efficiently served him well and he soon amassed a small fleet of smuggler vessels to bring the goods into China, and even began to branch out into piracy to maximize his profits. Greed, indeed became his downfall. After a particularly fruitful raid of a Spanish Ship Mongke anchored in Lisbon to prepare for the long journey back to China. During the night his second in command burst into the Captain's quarters with a small squadron of Portuguese constables. His partner was paid, and he was turned over to the Spanish government for execution.

On his journey to Madrid for hanging his ship was attacked by the Sanguineum Aurum, and he was freed by Lilia Mauser. While Mongke Oyugun's moral compass certainly does not point north. He is a deeply honorable man, with strict guiding principles. Instead of turning back for revenge, he became honor bound to repay the blood debt he owed Kapitän Mauser.

Personality: Mongke Oyugun is facetious, fiercely intelligent, and surprisingly light hearted despite his bloody and complicated past. Mongke Oyugun grew up on the road. Learning from the experience of strangers and the harsh discipline of failure.

Weapons: Mongolian recurved composite bow, Kilij, two flintlock pistols.

Weaknesses (REQUIRED): Mongke will follow orders to the letter. No matter what. If the captain ordered him to decapitate himself, he would find a way to accomplish it. He also speaks very poor English, and doesn't have a very strong understanding of western culture. To people not part of his crew he is unreasonably hostile, and usually very violent.

If you've gotten permission from Puerto to be apart of Red Lily's crew, you're accepted.

He speaks the truth, he does.
"There's a reason you separate military and the police. One fights the enemies of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people."

I'm Roman Catholic, so there's that. If you have any questions about what Roman Catholicism really does, I guess I can help. You should probably go to a priest to ask, but I know some things.

(How did that first conversation between our two characters go, anyway? Like, did you swear you allegiance to me in a foreign tongue and I just sorta stood there awkwardly while you bowed on the middle of the deck? or what?)
