The BranRiech wrote:Heh, Siduer's reminding me of Jem from To Kill A Mockingbird, mainly because I'm suffering from overload from that book.

He's resentful because his mother refuses to bring his father back. That's his perspective, anyway. Kids think stupid things. Anyway, he's in that "anger" stage of grief. It's also a bit of child psychology. "If I misbehave, I'll get punished. The one who punishes is my father. Therefore, my father will either come back to punish me, or else he won't and I can take my temper out on the world."

I'd mentioned in IC way, way back when that something shapes Siduer, an event which causes him to turn into what he is in the genre universe. This is the crossroads... he'll either take the left path and that dark future will be avoided, or he'll take the right path and thus events unfold like they're meant to.

Aaaand then I found this.

I had to post it here because hey... Nazis... with a fennec! Hilarious!

Ah! The Desert Fox!

Rommel was awesome, sucks that he had to kill himself though. He was involved with the Hitler Assasination plot, and killed himself to protect his family from persecution.

Rommel was awesome indeed. He just refused to fall into that dark mindset. There was a German movie that came out years ago that told his story. It did a fairly good job at keeping historical facts straight. The scene where he takes his own life with a cyanide pill made me cry. Can you imagine sitting there and being told, "Do it or your family dies"? It took guts. Anyway, I'll look around for it. We watched it in German class and I honestly can't remember the name.

Yep, he's actually the only member of the Third Reich's establishment to have a museum dedicated to him.

That's...not entirely true.

Which doesn't diminish Rommel's significance, however.

True. Probably because he was more well-known. Denying his spirit is foolish and counterproductive, but so is suggesting that it's a zero-sum game.

Well, there's a few people in the Third Reich who probably deserve museums. Like any organization, there's the good and the bad. They just had quite a few more bad than good.

Rommel is a man I can admire. He had guts, but was cautious, and he didn't play into the same games as his peers.

But I can't say much about him. I know more about pilots, like Hartmann and Barkhorn, or good'ole Chuck Yeager. If it comes to military generals, my guy is Douglas MacArthur.

Except that MacArthur went all Nukehappy (Or tried to) in the Korean war and got his ass fired.

On an unrelated note, our street is named after him.

That's one of the reasons I think he's a badass. He wasn't afraid to nuke those Reds back to the Yalu River to win the war.

But Truman wanted to preserve peace, and MacArthur was fired. Like he said, "Old soldiers don't die. They just fade away."

Spiral no prob. We changed venue to the island. Your character would have been brought there. Island information is on first page of this thread under "Current Location".

Swith won't be on tonight or tomorrow. Might not be for a few days. Emergency came up. I'm going to delay the Bane campaign. Might launch the base campaign Sunday. I need to know how many people want in on the Base campaign. It's a non-magic session; mortals are welcome.

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears, and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination.

Bran will go on the Base mission, Swith said he still has the power armor he was given, and the Bolter.

I may co spider putting Torii in for the base campaign. I'm also thinking against it, though...I'll look into it.

That's more than enough to get him through.

@Torsi. Whichever you decide.

@Gio. All's fine.

I should clarify with the base: characters are advised to refrain from magic use. There's going to be magic in the form of items and traps. No different than if a grenade were wired to a door. Careful observation will get them through it.

I'm meaning towards having Torii join. It'll be like last year, when I first joined and Torii was thrown into native attacks.

You mean MacArthur wanted to nuke Korea and China, even after being ordered not too by the President (which is an act of treason), starting World War III and possibly the extinction of the human race. At the very least it would be even worse then the Second World War.

And all this was after MacArthur fucked up royal and pushed too close to the Yalu River (after specifically being ordered not too, also an act of treason), spooking China and drawing them into the war, then getting his ass kicked so hard that we almost LOST the war entirely, and only managed to save South Korea due to the actions of Brig. General Lewis "Chesty" Puller and the 1st Marines.

Yeah, truly an all-American hero, managing to snag near-defeat in the jaws of total victory, and then plan on defying the President in a piss-poor effort to fix his colossal fuck-up, which probably would've ended life as we know it.
Me summed up in one sentence.

You really come off as a jackass when you only pop in to say something smart. Just sayin'

And people wonder why I rarely drop by. Forgive me for disagreeing with you and making an intelligent counter-argument, abet a sarcastic one.

But no, call me a jackass for disagreeing with you. Because nothing in your sig makes that hypocritical.

Alright, calm it down, idiots. We're in PL OOC, discussing the fame and/or infamy of a General from the 40's and 50's who has no bearing on PL right now, and we're arguing over that? How about we all just stop?

Bran, we gave Torsi shit for doing it, and it would be quite unfair to him to let you get away with it: stop this. I get that you only mean well, but you're not a Co-OP and such action is not required just quite yet, possibly inflaming the situation even more . Please stop. Don't jump in if it doesn't concern you.
