Long, convoluted answer: Hiram is an inspirational leader and the crew probably feel they owe him that much, what with him making the whole expedition possible.

Short, honest answer: I like playing as him.

Although, how do you want to adapt them? She can copy the programs and shit she has but I don't see how you could 'adapt' her sensors unless you dissect her. Which would be stupid even if you genuinely disregarded for Clara's life. Because no matter where her systems are used, she will always be the finest, most agile and effective version of almost anything.
