Not the original image, but something close.

Yep, Lucy's a CV90 in space. The pic I used was of a US Army trial model, from before they made the dumbass decision not to adopt the world's best IFV.

These days, if you want to find a picture of a Western vehicle in desert camo, you gotta use a US one.

The secret to finding pictures of desert camo CV90s is to simply look for Norwegian ones. The Norwegian Army's only use of the vehicles so far has been in Afghanistan, and they're all painted desert for that deployment.

Yeah but that's the uglier Mk1 one.

Edit: Nevermind, it's not. The picture's just taken from a weird angle that makes it look flatter than it is.

This is a pretty good picture. Just ignore the anti-air MG.

I can most likely post sometime this evening after I've done some work on my school stuff.
Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search for our better selves?
In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:—
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." The City's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder, and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

Anybody's welcome to join the fray if they want to. The goal is, of course, to commandeer the technical.

Well, yeah. It's pretty easy to fuck up jumping between two moving vehicles...

Also: since Lucy is a CV90, we might need another vehicle. Even if she's semi-automated, making more space, the capacity is still 8, which would be crowded with everyone's gear and the supplies and stuff...

Oh, that's why we're hijacking a bandit technical.

The capacity is 3+8, actually. Driver, gunner, commander plus eight dismounts. Gear takes a lot of space, yeah. The CV wasn't exactly designed for long treks into the desert alone. Each footsoldier was actually allowed only his personal weapons and a small backpack when I served.

And it's spacious compared to a BMP.

Yeah, the Soviet armored corps actually wouldn't accept tankers or BMP crewmen over 5'6" tall, if I recall. Still, we could do something a bit classier than a technical. How about something like a Fennek, or an FV721 Fox?

And I'm going to guess... Dutch Army?

So guys, I'd like your opinion. Ayreonia and I have been talking over telegrams, trying to world-build a bit, and add some lore to the whole story. I've been thinking more bandits - but ones with more personality, think something along the lines of Borderlands, where they're literally shouting the ways they're going to kill you as they attempt to do it, psychotic things like that. On the other hand, Ayreonia says that there isn't much to raid on Rigel 3, and so therefore there shouldn't be many bandits.

I guess my argument to that would be that bandits wouldn't necessarily only raid. They are outlaws, that is, people who are outside the law. In most cases, at least from what has been described to me, there either is rudimentary law or none at all in most places, so a place where you could help dictate the laws, say, in a bandit stronghold, would be a lot more attractive than a poor-ass town like Twixt Hills. Therefore, these bandits aren't only after fame, fortune, and a good shootout, but they're after a simple, safe life, which wouldn't normally be found amongst places that are under UNSEC control, or outside of that.

Ah, maybe we could get something from Gazprom... if people decide to post. :p

You seemed to be hip on desert warfare in the CV90, and the Dutch Army was the only CV90 user I could think of that had deployed in Iraq. It's not like I could tell from your accent or anything... :?

I don't actually know shit about desert warfare. There has been one time when I've operated in a desert-ish environment, and that was an old artillery training area that was so shelled to hell that vegetation simply refused to grow there.

Arctic warfare, on the other hand...

I feel like there would be less bandit groups and more people in small villages and towns. Ramshackle Hoovervilles, places that can be packed up and moved in some sense, should the need arise. Nomads, in other words, who might periodically turn to banditry to survive.

There's some semblance of order, which usually arises from the direct influence of local merchants/mercenaries/communities. Relatively stable. Bandit attacks aren't uncommon, but they usually prey on frontier settlements. If a major clan is forming, Badlands communities usually put aside their differences and band together to eliminate the new threat. Wastelands: anything beyond the Badlands. Permanent settlements are scarce, and are usually groups of outcasts or criminal dens. Law is in the hands of the group with the most firepower. The Deep Sands, the largest desert on Rigel-3 and home to the Glow, is almost entirely Wasteland.

Note that the Eastern Dune Sea, Gazprom's turf, is actually considered a part of the Core Lands. Don't let names fool you: since all the planet is dry and arid, the only places that wouldn't be considered "deserts" by Earth standards are the ones that people haven't bothered to cultivate. One thing: the Core Lands ought to be around the poles, because of the way planets and seasons work. They'd be the coolest (relatively speaking) parts of the planet.

The Finnish Army is the indisputable master of arctic warfare. Even the Russians are no match when you've got the likes of Simo Hayha running around...

Might as well post this little thing I wrote:

One thing: the Core Lands ought to be around the poles, because of the way planets and seasons work. They'd be the coolest (relatively speaking) parts of the planet.

Rigel-3 isn't actually that much hotter than Earth. It's just... dry.

I think the Russians learned from the Winter war to never touch Finland inappropriately ever again.

I certainly hope so, for Jess' sake. If not, maybe I'll ask her out on a date once we're done with our victory parade in Moskova.

And us Lithuanians would help with that damn invasion.
Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search for our better selves?
In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:—
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." The City's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder, and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

Tch. America could have ended the Cold War early if Finland hasn't been neutral...

EDIT: And we could end the bandit chase early if y'all would post.
