The BranRiech wrote:Bran, being ever the down to earth person, was still wondering how Bane even existed if he was nothing. To him at least, it didn't make any sense to him, although it made a shred more of sense to Kei, who nodded understandingly at the start of the briefing. She wasn't familiar with Bane, or even the concept, but understood how it was being told, and knew it was quite the threat, to her at least.

"So wait, how is Bane even something if he's nothing? Or is there something I'm not getting?" The young Branriechian spoke up.

Right before the start, Toscha and Drova entered the dining room, and were listening intently as well.

Klaus cupped his hands. "There's air in my palms. If I close my hands, the air becomes trapped. Now remove all the atoms. Remove everything. That's Nothing. Now imagine this Nothing is angry at being contained in my hands. It doesn't like to be defined so it destroys my palms and then seeks to destroy everything else that attempts to define it."

He turned to Tora. "You can't kill Nothing. We can trap it for a few thousand years. It'll eventually eat its way out and return. That's how we stop it though. We lure it to where we want it to be, we entice it to enter, we shut the door on it."

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears, and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination.

"But that just sounds...."

Torii caught herself, then spoke again.

"Couldn't we just fill up the nothing with something? Like, make something to fill nothing? Then again, that defies the Laws of Conservation of Mass, so.....what if we, like, went to another universe, took stuff from it, then brought it back to this plane, and used it to fill the nothing?"

Sigtrygg tapped his chin at this news. A being from the Ginnungagap? This was quite a dangerous thing to be facing. He had never heard of such a thing before, but due to it being presented in terms he understood, namely his own mythology, Sigtrygg immediately understood the severity of this situation. Something like this 'Bane' could easily wipe out the AEsir, Vanir, and Jotunn it sounded like. That was definitely a powerful thing to be going up against indeed. The viking just hoped this wasn't a sign of Ragnarok approaching, should they fail to send this creature from the world.

He remained silent and brooding, in his seat near the window where he had been taking with Klaus at earlier. He decided to not say anything, as others would probably cover any questions he could possibly have. Plus, he felt he understood it quite well right now. Sig didn't need much explanation to understand things in their basics. He was still mentally a soldier, and a bodyguard. He would give his life to keep this world from collapsing back into the Ginnungagap. Everything had its time, but Ragarok should not happen just yet.

-------

Albert tried his best to understand this, and definitely had a better time of it due to his people having a concept of Chaos. All the universe came from it, in the form of the primordial entities that personified the universe itself. But there was nothing about it wishing to retake the universe in his beliefs. Why would it, after all? Chaos still existed where the world did not though, lapping at the fringes and letting loose all sort of monsters. Even the Olympians struggled against its monsters, and they were the masters of all creation.

"So, we simply trap this thing in a different dimension for a while, until it escapes? Seems like just delaying the inevitable, but I have no arguments. I would prefer to think up a way to deal with it permanently though. But I am guessing this is not an option at this point, no?" Albert asked grimly, making sure to remember these things to inform Ray and his brother later. Jacob had elected to stay behind as only one of them was really needed. They were the same nation after all.

Octavian was thinking similar things, and a slightly worried expression was on his face. "Glad we came to this first, right Drova? Would not have been good to miss this and thus not know that there was such a danger while we search for your sister." His tail lashed behind him as he leaned against the wall.

-----

"Oh dear. This is not good. Not good at all." Sterling muttered from his seat near one of the walls of the room. HE searched his memory for any old Equestrian legends about Chaos, and only thought of Discord. But this sounded nothing like the chaotic Draconequus. It sounded so much more.... dark than anything in his old world. So many things about this world seemed so dark compared to his own. It terrified the pony at times.

One thing equines generally did when nervous was paw at the ground. Sterling was currently doing this, tapping his hooves in front of him anxiously while his ears swiveled about. Anyone with knowledge of how horses acted would recognize him as being anxious, scared and nervous. But then again, his words and tone of voice were also indicators.

"S-so this thing goes after ponies with magic more than those without it?"

"Well, I guess that means we pack up and move to another universe. Good luck dealing with that." NVE said as he got up, intent on just skipping town back to the Raptorverse, assuming the others would join him as they left this universe to rot. He would think that, despite the warnings , scientist think-tanks of the Empire would be already working on a way to stop this threat if it ever showed up there.

"Well, we can't all live forever. I'm on board, need anything from us? And don't ask for the De-Mat guns, those were a complete fraud, non-functional. And I think it would only make matters worse if they did." Arthur admitted, not wanting people to discover that fact too late in a situation this serious. If the threat was as dangerous as they claimed, he found it would be useful to at the very least buy a couple thousand years until a better solution (preferably known only to the raptors by then) would arise.

Yoshi's eyes had grown wide with fear. Why? Why would something, er, nothing just want to destroy everything? Living, or not. The world was beautiful, one could love, could dream, could hope, could laugh. The world was a place of brilliant light, and immense darkness, of love and hate, fire and ice, pain and happiness, hate and love. It was not perfect, but it was good, it was beautiful, it was home. Yoshi stood up to ask a question. "Why? Why would he see us as a cancer, there is so much good in the world, it is a beautiful place, what could he possibly have to gain from destroying it?" Yoshi didn not stutter and talked loud enough for everyone to hear. This was unusual for him, but he was more angered than scared of the thing.

"But how can nothing be angry if it's nothing? That's what I'm not getting here. If it's simply nothing, it shouldn't be able to be angry at us." Bran said, crossing his arms. He knew the danger was there, but didn't get why the danger was there. "Ah, I know there's danger, just wondering why there's danger."

"I agree with Klaus, lets just trap it and get it over with." Primordial said. The plan that had been suggested was one that he was familiar with, his people often met reality destroying creatures and transporting them to the edge of know existence was as clean a solution as any other. "Also stop treating this thing like its from our reality. our definition of nothing and emotion is probably too simplistic to apply to this creature. Lets not try to understand it and just get rid of it"

"An illusion," Dan spoke up, though his voice wasn't very loud. He chalked it up to nervousness, this was completely out of his league. If Aurora could laugh at his 'simple mistakes' - as she put it, she'd be on the floor in tears here if he was wrong. "You said nothing consumes that which is something. The only way to transcend it is multiple magics working in tandem to lure it to a pocket realm... you need an illusion to distract it. Assuming it can be distracted?"

He knew the danger was there, but didn't get why the danger was there. "Ah, I know there's danger, just wondering why there's danger."

"It isn't angry. It wants to purge the cancer. We interfered when we - the universe - began. It's actions are aggressive just as you would aggressively treat cancer in the human body."

Klaus nodded at the newcomer, Dan. "Yes, although the illusion has to present itself as being more powerful than anything already existing. The gods of creation tend to remain hidden. Usually, chaotic gods and their minions serve as bait. We've lost a lot of pantheons over the ages. Noble beings. The illusion would need to mirror their power, if that's the correct usage of the word. Bane can taste. He hasn't eyes that can be fooled."

He cleared his throat.

“This is what we’re suggesting. We’re all due to leave for the Island soon. Everyone, including the Raptors next door. Minerva and I will keep our people in Bielefeld to keep Bane’s attention here. We’ll advise the city to hunker down; Bane won’t bother to go for mundanes when he can feast on cultists. He’s not interested in smashing cars and knocking down buildings. That comes later and after he’s grown in power. What he most likely will do is move against this building and attempt to consume it, ergo the need to locate all of you to our holiday haunt.

“Bane has so far remained hidden and undetectable. He hasn't amassed enough power to register. When he does, it will be swift in nature. If calculations prove true, we have a month to prepare. We’ll launch a two-pronged attack on Bane. Those who want to risk assisting us, may. We’ll need to work with the Luxans and with any who can use illusion or amplify power. If my calculations are correct, we’ll be able to split our forces and…. Well, I’m getting ahead of myself. The point is, none of you need to be around if you don’t want to be involved.

“For now, don’t go wandering alone. Keep your assorted powers under the radar. Anything, even transporting yourself with devices, will attract the nemesis. The Building shields you when inside however displays on the street could draw him out sooner than we anticipate. Chaos – the restaurant – will remain in place but don’t expect it to shield you like the last time. Ogoti’s magic doesn’t counter Bane’s ability; only Swith is capable of holding him at bay but it would probably kill her in the process.”

He coughed and added, “For those who might be thinking they’re safe because they’re mortal, like Bran? You’re touched by magic. If you’ve been exposed to it, revived by it, cursed by it, cured by it or traveled by it, then you’re a food source. Just living in this building taints you to a degree.

“We’ll need to stay on our toes until then. Report any suspicious activity to the Conservators. They’ve agreed to help us out in this matter.”

Torii groaned indignantly, having her last question unanswered. How was she supposed to do anything against this thing? Just another oppressive enemy presence....

How she wanted to prove herself! But...she couldn't imagine being wiped out...she was just frustrated now. Frustrated and angry. There just HAD to be a way to permanently destroy this guy.

"I ask again, couldn't we just find a way to fill this "nothing" with something?"

Calvin stared blankly forward at the table, wondering just what in the hell he was hearing. Magic? Gods? He assumed he had stumbled upon some building-wide roleplay. He wasn't particularly able to maintain a real serious thought on it, almost laughing at some of the impossible things. He may have come from supernatural nonsense, from a place so rife with it, but this 'earth' was otherwise a mundane place. He found himself incapable of absorbing the information to any serious degree. He decided to speak his mind on the matter.

"Is this, like, some fuckin' roleplay I've been invited to?" He sneered out loud, the first words he'd said the whole time. He was halfway through his second cigarette by now, the other crushed and burnt out on a plate before him. He was already perturbed, assuming this was some pointless game the residents played. They seemed the type, rather too eccentric in the vibes they gave off to him.

"Filling the nothing with something doesn't work. The nothing consumes whatever we feed it. It never fills."

"Except there's no causality in the immaterium- those sitting across of me prove it. It does not matter how powerful or old you being is when your enemy can simply shrug off any attempt at its destruction due to itself being a paradox of existence. The self-destruction of the Eldar created my god in the thirtieth millennium. Yet I am a servant of its will, and it exists far before its birth, as it has always existed, irregardless of time or space, as has all of Chaos. Were this Bane dumped into the Immaterium, he would be lost for eternity- attempting to consume something that has no limits to its size or glories- and its very destruction impossible as it ignores causality. The unstoppable force meets the immovable object. The result is always stagnation and attrition."

Volturius then made a fanged grin, thinking back on the dark history of Chaos he'd picked up from the texts of Word Bearers, and other blasphemous books found throughout the Eye.

"Time-travel is an oddity. While I am unsure of it- perhaps this idea is what eventually leads to the creation of the Fifth, his name be damned to oblivion."
If we affirm one moment, we thus affirm not only ourselves but all existence. For nothing is self-sufficient, neither in us ourselves nor in things; and if our soul has trembled with happiness and sounded like a harp string just once, all eternity was needed to produce this one event—and in this single moment of affirmation all eternity was called good, redeemed, justified, and affirmed.

"He's no longer where he was," Klaus explained to Tieria. "There's a tiny trail that leads from there to here. It may only be rumor but consider this: some gods have bugged out already. They wouldn't risk losing their strongholds and everything they've gained if there wasn't some evidence in their hands. Also, unnoticeables have gone missing. These are the dregs of humanity: prostitutes, druggies, homeless. Recently, a Drow was snatched before she ever made it to the Building. Bane left a calling card. Her entrails had been placed on the floor and the fluids seeped. The names of some individuals were written in that gore."

He sighed. "I answered you, Tora. The nothing will continue to consume whatever you feed it and will never be filled up. Its purpose is to consume."

Finally, to dispel the newcomer's fears of being duped Klaus raised a finger and pointed at Primordial. "He knows Cthulhu."

He pointed at the massive Space Marine sitting next to a small pregnant woman. There was a monster curled up behind them and its long head was resting protectively on her baby bump. "Chaos."

He gestured to Kei. "Demon-Goddess."

He pointed to the Ponies. "Not talking horses, and not a costume."

And finally, he drew a pistol and fired at point blank range. The round shattered Ogoti's skull and splattered those at his table with gore. For a moment, the headless torso clutched at its coffee cup. A growl escaped it and then the head reformed. "A god," Klaus explained.

"The fifth, Volturius, is wandering around somewhere. I'd hoped that he'd consider attending the meeting. We'll jot a note to him as a recap."

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears, and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination.

Xanthe had been reminded of her dream. She mutely nodded at Lucius.

"Something like that," she said once she'd regained her voice.

Left-wing Utopia

Giovenith sat down on the ground and mumbled something under her breath, earning a tug on the shirt collar from the pony on her left.

"What?" he asked her, quietly so as not to draw attention. Willow had little to no experience comforting others, but since he was currently closest to the girl, he might as well try. "Come on, don't mumble things, or I can't help..."

The godling tussled a bit on the ground, and put her head in her arms and knees, refusing to repeat her words. Willow sat down and awkwardly patted her back with a wing.

"I wish I could help, but realistically, I don't think I can," he said out in the group, to no one in particular. "This is beyond my comprehension, and apparently a lot for this one to han-" He shrieked a bit at the sudden explosion of the man's head and it's subsequent regrowth, hugging the godling now for his own protection. "Celestia's beard..." He rubbed his face, struggling to take this all in.

"So I assume we can't pull a Houdini act on our house if we decide to teleport the whole damn thing to the island. Guess it's low tech, under the radar from here on in...oh they won't be happy about that." Arthur said as he held a cigarette in his Raptor hand and wrote a note with his human one.

NVE, the dinosaur in a blue suit did not look happy at all. Normally he would let theses inferior mammals deal with it, it wasn't his problem. Although Arthur had now gotten their whole faction reluctantly involved.

Jonathan was quiet, and a bit scared.

"How bad is it? Who could it be that we are trying to find, avoid, or fight?" He asked with a bit of concern.

"I don't see why you couldn't move your house to keep it all in one piece," Klaus replied. "What's more perfect than a home away from home?"

Xanthe briefly recapped everything her group new about Bane. She left a few things out... things that wouldn't matter in the long run.

"Which is why we need to lay low and get to the Island."

Yeah, and we've got our house on the island already, so that shouldn't be a problem, although we'd need to do some shopping." Bran said, thinking of returning to the island. He didn't think it'd be as fun though, if he couldn't be Mer like he was last time, but the island could still have fun to be had. Walks through the jungle, swims, nice weather for a change . . .

Toscha dearly hoped the island wasn't a snowy one . . .
