These kinds of RPs (this being the fourth edition) start in prehistory and end as late as possible. The current official one is at 1440 AD, and we plan to go until 2100. :)

So RP mechanics would have to change.
Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search for our better selves?
In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:—
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." The City's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder, and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

So just to be clear - if we are moving from 5700 to 4000, we are not allowed any expansion or any major growth?

4000 BC was still a part of prehistory. I don't think any expansion made during that time exceeds the dots on the map.
Not sure, though.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the leap to 4000 was supposed to be made in stasis, not like what Shang posted.

Is that so? Or do I need to write a long post now?

I'd say it's your choice. Doesn't really make a difference.

Coolio. Time for some serious cultural development.

And it's mainly relevant from a population growth standpoint; intensified agricultural activities to support swelling towns and all that. A thousand seven hundred years is a long time to grow over.

I don't know much about populations. How much would a tribe's population increase during this period? (My previous number was 700.)
I do know that there isn't enough land expansion for the new map. That's for sure.

Well, the only person who has posted so far more than doubled their numbers, so I think some growth might be important.

Meh. I have time to think. I still have 2000 years of silence left.

In over a thousand years the populations would grow by just over 1000%, assuming you have a steady growth of 1.1% a year. Basically everyone would times their population by 10.

I'm still not moved to the seattle area? :o
Also, I think we should jump to 3000 BC while in statis. There is still not much to do in 4000 BC...

That's... not exactly accurate. Current estimates of the world population from 8000 BCE and 4000 BCE show an increase of only 2 million people, from 5 million to 7 million.

A 1.1% growth rate in antiquity would be staggering.

Let's say, for instance, that my village of 1850 had an annual growth rate of 1.1% percent.

In the year 2000 AD the world population would be, if my village represented the entire population of the earth, period:

1850*(1.011^7800) = 2.1193*10^39 persons.

Aka 2,119,300,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 persons, or two duodecillion one hundred nineteen undecillion and three hundred decillion persons.

3,700 x 10 = 37000 people? I can live with that. All Mother and the Yellow River will provide. Give or take a few thousand due to plague and warfare.

That's really not a realistic growth rate, as I think I've amply illustrated.

Think more like 3700*1.4 = 5180.

That would be the growth rate humanity really experienced in this era.

Sorry for the (kinda) late response.
My village is in the Eastern Carpathian Mountains. If you have Google Maps, search 'Lunca Bradului, Romania', and I think you'll find it.
The fertile agricultural land/plains (if mountains don't count) are 50km or so away.

Ahh. So maybe not so much ability to grow rapidly in your case; 40% growth was a worldwide average, so fertile river deltas might grow more, while you for instance might grow less. Why did you start your pop so small.

I saw an app before that that had 400 people, and I think it belonged to the guy that was in Romania at the time (he moved now), so I decided not to be twice his size.
I didn't compare with other apps, though. I'm dumb sometimes.

I think I'll 're-app' with a bigger number. 1200, probably.

Yeah, might want to get on that. I think you're a decent size for your region, but some people are already claiming 266% population growth, and if growth is by percentages you're going to have a rough time of it.
