Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search for our better selves?
In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:—
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." The City's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder, and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,

There's the possibility of giant sloths still living around the amazon due to local sightings but then again that hardly reliable data. But if these creatures are a part of folklore it suggests that they were around not so long ago that they are still remembered.

The fact that they haven't been recorded in any reliable source for the two thousand years the Amazon has been permanently inhabited means that I highly doubt that. Most likely a Lochness Monster type thing. If they were indeed that rare, they would have genetic breeding troubles.

So I've found the main problem in this RP, its us.
The pace of development is much to slow for us (modern day humans) to comprehend. When new major things are made so often (e.g. iphone, ipad, laptops, more advances, yaddah yaddah) we can't comprehend the idea of simply tying a sail onto a ship was much to hard for most people to understand and develop. It may seem like a simple step for us to be like, "Hey, wind, lets put a sail to catch it," but had you never seen a sail you would have never invented it. Same goes for how we should be RP this. The pace of development was much slower. People ruling other people that were far away from them? Not an existent (much) concept. People living with walls around them? Not existent. People making written languages. Completely not existent. Stuff like this didn't happen back then because it was too hard for them to make the jump from their current technology. Today, I bet most of us would not be able to produce the next major invention that would changed the world even if our lives depended on it. Making large innovative jumps isn't easy, but it gets easier, and more common with the formation of organize states that allow people to not always farm as well as a larger populations for a higher chance to much such steps forward. The problem is that none of us care to sit idly by as our people don't develop anything new and don't go beyond the status quo, thus this RP is highly unrealistic. But whatever cause domesticated unicorns xD.
*Huzzah he lives!*

Nah, son. Britain was all like "yo, why my colonies be all uppity an' shit?!" And Lord Durham laid it straight: "they be wantin' legislation with representation, dawg."

I wonder what it would be like, to start from scratch again. Y'know, start the world over. Would we accomplish the things history did? Would we be intelligent enough, or strong enough to survive? Anyone else ever think that?

Well, I suppose the answer would be to invision that we are the people. Imagine that we were Normains or Guallians or whatever. Forget our I-pads and computers, and imagine ourselves in a forest green. Chasing deer to feed the village. Think things though like they did, putting ourselves into the story. Not looking at the now, but to the past. Don't think about conquering places, think about discovering a new world. That's how I think we solve that.

Oh, and you should take ships off your list. Coracles and dugouts existed since 15000 BCE.

The difference is semantic for dugouts; they can be coastal vessels as well as river craft.
