But there were times where her smiles just looked shyer then she may actually seem to be herself. Now was one of those times.

"You must be new" Kelly said, leaning onto the door of a stall as she spoke to him, which was the stall where the foal was located. "Hey little guy" She said before Nicholas even really got time to respond, but it still looked like she was paying attention to him if he did end up speaking up and saying something to her.

Nicholas looked towards the girl that had spoken to him. Strange. He was very used to people not talking to him at all. "Oh. Hello." He greeted her, inadvertently selecting his default monotone. Maybe he should have been a bit more friendly. "I have been here a while now." Following behind the girl, he glanced down at the foal penned up in its stall. "What a stout creature. Young, clearly. Abnormally disproportionate, but not aesthetically unappealing." He commented. "Cute, I suppose." Despite his words, he was unsure if the animal's appearance would do anything to improve his fine motor skills.

As Nicholas spoke, Leo walked by the two, Catarina trailing just behind him, now tacked up in a halter and lead rope. Occasionally, he muttered something in Spanish to the horse, having almost completely tuned out anything else. The pair quickly made their way out into the pasture.

"I have only been here for 3 days. I must of missed you before" Kelly said, only making slight glances his way, and mostly focusing on the foal eyes wise, but her ears were on what he had to say, and he seemed to be a bit of a strange one. Strange wasn't really a bad thing, though. Just different. When her brought up the foals cuteness, she said "I think all foals are just so cute. But I think most animals are really cute, and even some bugs. A lot of things people may think of as ugly or not really overly cute, or as food, like say, in the case of a pig. Pigs have quite a personality, are really smart, and often times are extremely cute. But we just associate them with bacon" A sigh escaped her at her words. Now she was just coming up with random stuff for discussion.

"It would not be the first time that I have been missed." Nicholas said, still giving no inflection. "I am not attached to any creature myself, for physical traits or otherwise. Though insects are excellent subjects for studying mutation. Not my main field, but interesting nonetheless. On the topic of mutation, Pigs were bred as they were for meat through years of selective breeding. Of course we would collectively think of them as only a source of nutrition despite whatever intelligence they may or may not have. They were not bred with traits that are conventionally desirable for a pet animal." Nicholas had never known a pig personally, and had no interest in meeting one. Horses were one thing. They had a particular use in life aside from being prepared to be slaughtered for meat. Pigs though, well, Nicholas did not know what to think of pigs. "Though, I admit that I indulge in bacon more often than is healthy for a human of my age."

Deciding to drop the subject before it upset her, Kelly moved on to something else. Well, if she could think of something else to say. She did however respond to him talking about indulging in more bacon then what was healthy for him, with a simple, "I am a Vegan", indicating that she didn't eat any meat at all. Which ever since she had gone fully Vegan, unlike her sister and parents, she had felt much healthier, which made her perform even better in the saddle, doing show jumping and everything, because she felt more fit and everything. But that was another story she didn't need to go into.

"Soooo, you have any specific area of riding you do more then others, and enjoy more?" Kelly asked to try and come up with a different subject to talk about.

Maisie
Maisie followed him over to the horse that she would be riding, glancing around the stables as she walked there, taking everything in of the place. But when he said that this would be the horse she would be riding, her full attention fell upon the horse, and her face lit up again. "He is beautiful!" She said happily, and as he kept speaking, she reached her hand out to the horse slowly, her fist closed so the horse could smell her hand. "My dad wrote that in the application, didn't he? I love my dad, he takes everything into account and writes it down in the most detailed way possible" She said, resting her arms on the door of the stall and smiling happily. To what he said next, she gave a nod of her head to him saying that her class was in an hour, and that she should use that time to familiarize herself with the school. "I shall do that, but right now I am going to hang out with my new friend" She smiled, scratching Spotty on the nose gently.

"He certainly seems like a dad who wants the best for his daughter," Slater replied, nodding. He leaned against the wall. "You can go in if you want," He said, gesturing to the stall so that she knew what he was talking about. "I'll come find you in an hour to help you get ready for class, OK?" He said, pushing himself off the wall and walking off with a slight wave and a grin.

"I do not believe I could take on such a limited diet. Interesting of you." Nicholas responded, though he sounded anything but intrigued by Kelly's eating habits. He had never met a vegan before, at least that he knew of. He had never thought to ask whether someone was vegan or vegetarian or kangapescetarian or whatever diet suited them. He had never considered it his business.

"You mean particular sections of equestrianism? Jumping and such? No, I do not." Looking in the direction of Clayton's stall, he continued his reply. "I enjoy riding well enough, but I have little interest in training for particular events." Competition was not something that Nicholas enjoyed participating in. He much preferred working in congruence with other for a common goal. Even if a sport was relatively harmless, Nicholas simply did not see the point of competing over what would not amount to very much in the long run.

George finished mucking out the stables for the day. He then just began to sit on a chair and watch to happenings of Pine creek. After he got tired of that he started to take a walk through the stable area. He saw that same foal that he saw when he was working he smiled at it then said," Hello there". The foal neighed in response. George than petted it.

Maisie smiled and nodded her head up and down repeatedly, looking happy. "Yes, yes, he is. He is the best father I could possibly ask for" She smiled brighter after what she said, and just her smile alone showed how much that she loved her father. She felt similarly about her mother, as well. "And my mother, too!" She added happily. When he said he could go in, she gave a nod of her head, but didn't quite go in yet, and listened to the rest of what he said. "Okay. See you in an hour!" She said, and then she went into the stall slowly to get acquainted with the horse more thoroughly.

Kelly
"It wasn't that easy, but I got myself to do it on my own fairly recently. Well, at least finally going over fully. The rest of my family has tried but still hasn't succeeded. It isn't so bad once you're used to it, really, and honestly I feel healthier because of it" Kelly said to Nicholas. "But enough of that, it isn't important" She said before she had moved on.

Kelly gave a nod, and then listened to him, nodding again in understanding that he didn't want to train for particular events. It could be really quite time consuming, stressful, tiresome, and generally a pain at times, so she could understand wanting to stay out of all of that and just be a casual rider. But she herself was anything but casual, and she honestly thought that if she remained a casual rider that she would likely get bored after a while, so instead she threw an overabundance of stuff on top of her to train for off and on, and then adding on taking care of horses on top of all of that.

"Understandable. Training can be very hard. I've done enough of it to know. Add on top of all of that the fact that we're all teenagers with school and just being teenagers in general and it can get pretty stressful and chaotic. So I can't blame you for staying out of it all" Kelly said to Nicholas.

Cara
Cara had finally arrived to the stables. She put her riding gloves in her helmet and held the helmet in her arms when she hopped out of the family car, and her parents shortly later. She gave them both quick kisses on the cheek, and they to her. "Love you guys!" She said, and she headed towards the stables quickly. Her father was staying, but her mom had to go to work. Which meant the father would ride home, since he brought his bike with him and it wasn't that far away. Her mom got back in the car, waved enthusiastically, and drove off, and her and her dad walked towards the stables. Though, she had already come TO the stables and signed up and everything, with the help of her sister and parents. So technically she was already pretty much here, but it would still be good for someone to show her where her horses stall was, and when the first class would start and all (her class isn't private like Maisie's, even though Cara's family can probably pay for private lessons better than Maisie's can). Her dad wanted to stay to watch her do her first lesson, as well, so he stayed nearby.

Oh, and yes, he got his bike off the car before it drove off...

Preston sat near the pasture's fence outside and was reading a book. He held the book in his right hand and was stroking Paladin with the left. He looked up from the book and saw a beautiful view, emerald trees glistening against a lovely forest view.
"Paladin... how do you talk to girls?" The boy questioned his horse.
"Just once I wish you could talk... you know say something encouraging like 'Well my boy, you sweep them off their feet', but no all I get is a-" Paladin neighed right in his ear loudly, "Yeah that... and ow!" Preston stared at the horse and he could have swore Paladin was smiling. "Well guess what? I think we are having baked beans for dinner and then I really want to go for a ride tomorrow morning." The horse lost the look of it's face. "Yep, I went there." Preston reclined against the bench and resumed patting the horse's side. "I got it! What if I went for a ride with her on your back? She likes horses a lot and you are so sweet... sometimes... 'course I don't think she ever wants to talk to me again to be honest." The boy suddenly got the feeling that the girl he was talking about was standing quite near him at the moment.

Luckily for Preston, his feeling that Makayla was standing near him was way off, as she was still hanging out with Bronze, in his stall. If she were to give someone advice as to how to get her to like them, it would be to not try. She was much more likely to start liking someone by getting to know them over time then by someone trying to get her to like them. She continued to just hang out with her horse for now.

Preston walked up behind Makayla very quietly without having intended to do so.
"Hi there Missy, you grooming your horse?" He asked sliding the book in the back pocket of his jeans. His hat was on his back, a leather string was across his neck the only thing that held his hat on. "Sure has gotten hot out within the last hour or so hasn't it?" He asked looking over at her.

Makayla jumped ever so slightly when Preston suddenly started talking from behind her. "No, just hanging out," She said, shifting her weight back and forth slightly. She raised an eyebrow when he said it sure had gotten hot. "You must be used to a cold climate or something," She said, seeing as it was like, verging on cold if anything, at least in her opinion. It didn't really get super hot here unless it was in summer. Weather did change a lot here, though, so who knew how it would end up.

"I come from an area close to the Appalachian mountains. We had mostly cold snaps and when it does get hot it gets into the upper eighties round about. Mind if I take my over shirt off?" Preston pulled at the collar of his blue button up. With a quick glance he managed to look over Makayla and try to ascertain her personality so he could try and drive this conversation in the non awkward direction.
"She loves horses... so I could bring up talking about here horse, maybe ask his name?" he thought to himself before coming back from his zoned out state.
"Actually, scratch my prior thought, the weather seems to be find; so what is your horse's name?"

"I'd say it's probably like, 70 at the most, which is a pretty nice temperature here. Maybe even a bit cold, depending on what time of year it is. Also, I don't know where the Appalachian mountains are," Makayla said, her gaze darting around, looking anywhere but at Preston. Not because she didn't want to look at him, but because that's how she was. When he asked what her horse' name was, she replied,"His name is Bronze. Not a particularly awesome name or anything, but I didn't feel like changing it...." She trailed off wondering if he really gave a crap about that.

(Spotty)
Spotty nibbled at his hay, not currently paying much mind to the young girl who was staring at him. He was used to it by now.

"I find that things are generally not so chaotic nor stressful for myself." Nicholas said to the girl. "I am well-taken care of, I receive exceptional schooling, and there is, in general, not very much wrong with my life." Despite his words, Nicholas sounded, if nothing else, forlorn or even distant. If there were emotions conveyed in his voice at all, happiness and enthusiasm would be a furthest from present. "I simply choose to stay out of it. I do not like competing against others, and I do not think that my horse nor I would take very much away from the experience." He looked towards the young horse in its stall once again. Briefly, Nicholas wondered if it had any thoughts on being gawked at by hairless primates. Though it did not seem to mind being watched too much, Nicholas had to think that maybe it was not yet used to the presence of animals so different from itself.

"The Apps.. well they stretch for most of the East, their mid point is about the Kentucky area, I grew up in a small town near the base of the range. I bet he would be a great show horse, I thought about having Paladin as a show horse... but he hates all the frilly grooming and to be honest I don't blame him; my sister, God love her, she put all kinds of pink bows in his mane one time." Preston about fell over laughing. "I used to have a picture of that, but sadly I left it back home on my desk."

"Neither, really. He had the name before we bought him, and I didn't want to change it, because it's what he's used to," She said, nearly getting knocked over as Bronze swung his large head over to look at her. She giggled slightly,"Silly horse, doesn't know how big he is," She said,"He's supposed to be good at Show Jumping. Of course, it will be a while before I can put that to the test. Trotting is the most I've done so far, really. Don't worry, he's a he."

"Mind if I ask he bred? I have only seen a few other breeds then Thorough bred, he sure is pretty though.

"He's a quarter horse," Makayla said,"At least mostly. I don't know if he's fully 100% Quarter horse or not. Paladin's a Thoroughbred, right? He looks like one. Nice long legs and lean body and whatnot," She trailed off again, wondering if she sounded like she was showing off. "Oh geeze, showing. I hope to some day, but I need to take care of my anxiety before I do that. Did you know horses can sense if you're nervous, and get nervous themselves?"

"Yeah, I am not so great with other horses for that reason, only reason Paladin is so calm and composed around me is because I raised him from a foal. He was pretty darn cute back when he was little, tried to follow me to school once, actually managed to outrun the bus... all the girlies used to faun over him the days he did follow me to school. It was quite a sight to see when I had to hitch him up near the forest by the school, poor little guy, fortunately our recess was long so I could indulge his playfulness before having to head back into the classroom." Preston smiled, "Well if it is any help, I think you seem like a good rider, I am rather terrible myself though, that ride today just about killed me."

Kelly nodded to what he said, though she noticed that his tone of voice and looks gave her an impression there was more to it and maybe what he said wasn't completely accurate. "Good for you. I would recommend keeping it that way. My life is good but I just keep piling more onto my shoulders, not less" She let out a sigh, but at the same time she smiled because she found it particularly amusing that she screwed herself over so much, piling herself with an overabundance of things to do. "In fact, I have a show jumping competition I signed up for in this town already" She said, giving a little hint that she was new.

And then she saw her sister. "Excuse me" She said to Nicholas, and she ran over to her sister and wrapped her arms around her in a tight hug, lifting her into the air. Cara had a look that said "Oh, not this again", but at the same time she was happy. "Your first day! I'm sure you will do great. I will definitely be watching you, like dad. Good thing we won't make you nervous" She said, and she had put her sister down. Now her arm was around her sisters shoulders. "I think your lesson starts in about an hour. I'm not entirely sure though" She said, and Cara gave a nod of her head.

Maisie
"Hey boy" Maisie said to Spotty. "How are you? I'm going to ride you soon. My first lesson! I am so excited. I hope you like me" She smiled at the horse, not having a care in the world that she was talking to a horse. She pet the side of him gently, going slow as to not startle him too much when he barely knew who she was. "Best we get to know each other before the first lesson, right?" She said. She seemed a little nervous about her lesson, but only a tiny bit. The horse didn't make her nervous at all, despite the fact she hadn't ever really been close to a big horse before, even with her love for horses. She had a feeling she'd be more nervous shortly before it started, but she hoped not too much since she knew that it could translate over to your horse.

"You've never seen me ride," Makayla said, raising an eyebrow,"So how would you know whether or not I seem like a good rider? I'm about as beginner as you can get." She fiddled with Bronze' mane, and he lowered his head and let his ears flopp a bit, after which she started rubbing his ear, which he seemed to enjoy quite a bit, and leaned into her hand, kind of like a dog. But way heavier.

(Spotty)
Spotty continued to nibble at his hay, one of his ears angled toward her as he listened to what she said. He could feel her nervousness, but he was a well-trained school horse. A bomb could go off next to him and he wouldn't flinch. After nibbling some delicious strands of hay, he turned to sniff her, thinking she smelled kind of sweet. He wondered if she had any treats for him, and began sniffing at her hands and pockets, just to make sure.

"That was just off of visual evaluation..." Preston looked at the ground nervously. "M-my bad if I seemed foolish in saying that or like a hound dog, I mean I promise I don't flirt with every girl I see; not that I was flirting with you, course that is not saying that I would not flirt with you... can i just shut up now and ask you how your day has been?" He stared at the ground blushing deep red.

Makayla blushed ever so slightly and stared at her horse, continuing to scratch his ear. She wasn't entirely sure how to respond to what he said, so she just went with his topic change. "My day has been good. How about yours?" She asked, shuddering slightly for no apparent reason.

"Pretty good, rode Paladin for a record time of an hour and a half straight, he was dog tired so I was glad they had this area for the horses." Preston looked at Bronze and studied the horse with a glance. "So you familiar with horses or is Bronze your first?" Preston asked looking over at her, their eyes met and he blushed ever so slightly. "Your eyes are pretty..." He stated under his breath.
