You taking them via posting instead of starting with them, that's the difference. Plus the Mesopotamian player may have something to say about it. I started with six, some others started with five. It's only fair if we did it you can too, and it's not like activity will kill you.

The difference is quite simple. If you start small, I can stop you from growing. A nation trice my size has just popped up next to me. I had no time to prepare, I don't know how you're going to play. Are you aggressive? Imperialistic? Will you try to attack me? It is strange that a local superpower would just appear out of nowhere. If you started small, I could try to influence your growth, or influence you nation. If you just plopped down a gargantuan next to me, there is no hope for Mesopotamia. There will be bullying, Iran will look down on the Land between Rivers, and there is nowhere for me to move. You would build me a prison.

Indeed. It's a bit hard managing a large piece of land in this age. Either your outlying colonies are sparsely populated, or self-governing, or split into many fiefs, or sparsely built lands only nominally yours.
I play the Shang, the big green blob in China, and they will inevitably fall to many bits as they did IRL, though the south might turn out a bit stronger (because wealthy neighbours).
(Speaking of which, maybe big nations could be allowed if the player agrees to let others meddle in the affairs of their non-core areas?)

In the meantime, Sebt, you may have noticed that Shang explorers are boarding your ships, and the ruling Yin court has sent merchants and an embassy to your capital. While I agree with the principle of allowing larger decentralized nations upon a player starting in essence, I find the execution leaves something to be desired. The Vincae, for instance (that red blob in Macedonia) were accepted with their size under the understanding that the state would be decentralized and feudal-esque, justifying their initial size advantage.

Their player engaged in steps to redress these issues, and they haven't been heard about since his third IC post, a workaround which I think is insufficiently laborious to justify a larger initial claim. If similar actions are taken by other large applicants, a circumstance I find likely, I am inhètently opposed to applicants with large territorial claims, even if they supposedly have weaknesses that justify their larger initial scale.

Oh no, dialogue is perfectly fine. I have nothing personally against you in any way, shape, or form. I'm simply noting that this is a rather competitive RP, and as such we try to keep players starting small like everyone else. I realize you look at the map and see large empires, but realize most people have had to work hard for those empires; believe me, its far more satisfying and engaging to build your small fiefdom into a great power than just have a lolhuge country plopped into your lap.

I want your claims cut down because everyone else started with small claims, and so should you.
