I would had the pope into all of Italy and down the coastline of the Adriatic into Albania. That if that is not too much to claim as one nation. All of/most of Italy and just parts of the Adriatic coast is also fine with me.

Yeah like it is entirely negotiable I'm not that unreasonable when it comes to borders because what's the point.

Historically Sweden did into South Jersey and Delaware for New Sweden, so I could do something off of that also. Idk no point in deciding now as there isn't an OOC.

I was thinking of a Venetian-dominated Italy that combined the mercantile interests of Venice (the Suez, Egypt, the Far East expansion) with the religious fervor and drive of the Pope.

Well I mean after Italian Unification the popes were not very happy. I'd imagine they'd be even less happy if the Venetians kill them over the Savoyards. So it would be kinda hard to combine religion and Venice.

Venetian Doge combined with the Republican nature of Venice, with the Pope acting as Vicar of God, on an equal level with the Doge. The nation requires the assent of the Doge and the Pope to move; leads to interesting power-plays throughout history.

Nope. Alternate history. The Venetians would recognize the death knell the American colonization push had for them, and would work to adjust that.

Also, not necessarily Ottomans in this timeline.

Oh, I saw it. That's just as easy to do elsewhere though really. Just give the angry natives more guns.

I'd go for a mix of the two; update to fifty years after the year we ended, let old nations come in, but allow historical license to create new ones in the intervening period.
