Well it all goes back to when The Us took over Florida. Old hickory wanted to keep going and take Cuba but the government stopped them. Spain was on their downward spiral and could have been beaten and Cuba taken. It would give the US another place for wealthy plantations and give us a bigger monopoly on Cotten. That is how I see it at least
