I thinking of starting an RP based off the idea that the Sino-Soviet split went deeper than IRL, and resulted in China basically entering the Cold War as a third super-power. China claims this title by first and foremost revealing their nuclear capability and then supporting communist movements in their local area, with the most attention going to Indochina and Indonesia. The Chinese also support rebel groups in Africa and South America, gaining the ire of the United States, who are beginning to escalate the war in Vietnam, and sending in "advisers" to many South American countries.

The RP would take place in 1969.

Hahahaha lol no.

Pls. If you want this to happen, basically you need to for Mao not to push the Great Leap Forward somehow. From there, he'd need to continue to work the third stage of China's 2nd 5YP. This should have their economy striving, but the problem is that's not very maoist of Mao. He'd push for massive collectivization, but this doesn't give him that so it'd be hard to conceive him being in power and doing this. On the other hand, you need him in power to keep up this Maoist (pro-stalinist) ideology. It's this ideology that causes the sino-soviet split as the Chinese start to resent the Soviet revisionism that's going on with Khrushchev. So you'd need a very hard-line China, but the problem in doing this is that no one is as hard-line as Mao is and if you have them be hard line, they wouldn't modernize due to the GLF plan destroying the small scale capitalism in the communes which is what was helping them industrialize under the 5YP's in early china.

On the other hand, perhaps you could have a very revisionist USSR that seeks peace with the USA in the 50's like Esienhower and Khrushchev tried. The only problem with this is that a major aspect of Chinese promotion of communism was that it was partially to oppose the soviet hegemony that was scaring them. As well, if you had a China that tries to do this, it may go GPCR like it did IRL under Mao and effectively destroy all of its progress.

So I don't see this very likely.
