TIE fighters were diverted away to deal with the fighters and bombers that had been pestering the Imperial forces for some time now. TIE bombers and the Star Destroyer Avenger continued to pummel the stealth ship. Gahl would have had his Star Destroyer lock onto Kite's Delta-7 with its tractor beam, but his current ship was the one that lost its tractor beam. And even if the stealth ship managed to get past the blockade, there were still Star Destroyers and plenty of TIE fighters on the planet to finish the job.
"Give the Star Destroyers below warning of what is coming their way and have them set their scanners to detect a ship's magnetic signature," Gahl called to Comms. The bridge shook as it took another hit from somewhere. "And contact the nearest system for some anti-fighter support and tell them to have it here within the next few hours! I am tired of these gnats damaging our ships!"
Kite knew they needed to divert more attention away from the Stealth Ship but also knew it was lost. Kite broke off with Red Squadron in tow. "Red Squadron follow me, we're gonna give our boys an escort." The twenty-five Starfighters darted towards the planet below intending to escort the Gunships off planet.
Gahl was glad to see the fighters leave the blockade. He counted only twenty-five left and with the number of forces the Empire had on Kashyyyk at the moment, there was little to no chance that the rebels were going to get off the planet alive.
"Shall I call for the fighters to move to intercept," the captain of the Star Destroyer asked. Gahl shook his head.
"No," he replied. "We'll let our boys on the ground handle them. We only need to prevent them from escaping."
