That reminds me of how, on occasion, I'm no better.

So I was in South Africa and met this Somali man, because there's a lot of Somalis in South Africa. I started making some generalised statements about his country, and he got really annoyed with me, because I'm an idiot and I actually know far less about Somalia than I thought I did.

It was an educational experience.

People can go home, a few people stay, and there's also communities and people in EH who live there all year and live nowhere else. Part of the reason Minh's marriage failed was because he never really had time to take off work.

There is a summer school and courses people can take in summer, but it's mostly break.

Thanks -- this one-shot is set over Summer 2030 and I'd hit a road bump in that regard.

Which is why I try not to talk about certain issues. I know I don't know shit about most countries, societies or scientific theories.

Summer school in Elfen High is unspeakably horrifying.

It involves a potato peeler and a screaming duck.

Good.

I remember when people started discussing apartheid after I ended up in South Africa and I would think "All of you, fuck the fuck off, you know nothing."

Do most teachers live somewhere on the campus or do they live in the surrounding whatever (what does surround EH? A town? The countryside?)? And if they live on campus, do they live in The Main Building or is there, like, a village or apartment complex somewhere on campus for them (or even one somewhere in the myriad depths of the building itself)?

Elfen High is alone in the Norfolk countryside.

Most staff stay there, though some go on vacation.

EH is in Norfolk. I cannot remember what is the geography there other than white and rainy.

And teachers live wherever they personally find good, including the main building, somewhere in Norfolk, the EH village which I now think exists. And some live in the school depths.

There's no need for a village; everything is internal.

Oh, you'd love my father.

"China, Japan, Korea, India... no difference there. They are all shitholes, like Somalia or Turkey."

Have I mentioned he can't (and apparently refuses to) tell the difference between an Arab Muslim woman and a Hindu woman?

Oh, I love my demographic. :p

I rather like the idea of a quaint little village within EH.

This makes a lot more sense.

The EHers don't live in it, though.

It's absurd at just the right level to be the sort of thing where you go, "Oh, well, duh."

Well, no, I imagine it would be faculty and a native population which doesn't quite match up to any surface ethnolinguistic group.

No, the staff is banned after the Pub Incident of 1978.

I'm guessing Celtic -- they likely are a relic of pre-Roman Britain -- mixed with whatever ethnic minority has traditional served as Elfen High's janitorial staff, very possibly with the odd random mutation here and there.

The school didn't have an entrance before the 1910's.

Like the school gives a fuck.

It seems like it often does random time travel shit.

And, pausing to think, I really like Astro's idea.

So?

I imagine the spot on which it's built has always held some sort of magical significance. I think perhaps at one point it would have been a sacred place to, mmmm, perhaps Sulis.

Maybe because it's a dragon corpse.
