Pre-9/11 (aka when air travel for a marching band became logistically impossible) my high school marching band went to places such as Switzerland, London, Russia (there is, apparently, a picture of the band hanging in the Kremlin), and Disney.

I suppose a marching band in a city would have an easier time raising funds for air fares and whathaveye than one in a fairly rural county. Although the music department here still does a Disney trip every 4 years too.
