The young vampire's eyes opened, staring straight into those of her mother. Last night she didn't get much sleep, as she only came home at around 4 AM.

"You have to work!"

Emi scoffed at the mere suggestion of working. The blood of Wallonia was flowing strong inside of her. Of course, a mother would not let her child sit in bed all day, so the woman abruptly pulled her out of bed by her leg with minimal effort, throwing her on the floor with a heavy thud.

"Ouch!"

"Now get up, young lady, and help out your family in the restaurant."

Showing as much irritation as she possibly could, Emi got up and changed into her working outfit, a seductive piece of clothing that showed just the right amount of skin to prevent the restaurant from being labelled as a strip club that also happened to serve food. All day long she worked her ass off to serve customers and rake in tips from gentlemen past their prime. Working was so overrated.

However, today was a special day, as it wasn't often that she was tasked with fetching wine from the cellar. Today this was the case, as if fate had sanctioned it herself. Descending down the stairs, she carefully made her way to the rack of wines and sought for that one particular bottle when suddenly she heard a scream emanating from upstairs. The door to the cellar swung open and her mother yelled. "Émilie! Run!"

Her mind suddenly set on survival instinct, the vampire jumped to the side of the wine rack and pulled a small lever that was tucked away behind it, revealing a hidden passageway that led to the inner sanctum of their clan. She beckoned her mother to come, but the woman shook her head, slamming the door shut moments before a sword pierced through her and the frame of the wooden door. The bloodstained blade coloured with the blood of Emi's mother. The girl wanted to cry, but no sound left her throat. Instead she obeyed her late mother's wish and ran, sealing the passage behind her with several well-aimed kicks to the already unstable ceiling of the tunnel, leading her straight to the sanctum.

What used to be their home had now been abandoned, perhaps out of a foolish sense of security that they were safe to sleep above ground. All that remained were empty coffins and an arsenal of weapons, relics from their violent past, a memento to her clan. Gripping one of her clan's katanas in her hand, she sword to avenge her mother, an oat she would honour at all costs. While she traversed the tunnels to safety beneath the city, the restaurant was littered with corpses. Few remained, but the hunters were determined to clear out the entire nest, a task they had already failed, unbeknownst to them.

They shot at sight, leaving no vampire the chance to act, even if they wanted to - which they didn't, because they were Walloons. Rather than go beyond their job description and act to save their family, most of them fled and hid, barely showing enough restraint to wave the white flag as their cousins were so famous for.

When night fell, the restaurant had not a single living soul in it. Emi, too, had left for greener pastures, because Flanders was running out of money to funnel to Wallonia...

...that and her clan had been exterminated.
