Once we're organized, our warriors and spitters will be able to stand toe-to-toe with most. We'll be weak in a few key ways, but hey, no fun otherwise, right? Our warriors have a thick exoskeleton that protects them from most ranged missiles, forcing anyone to close to actually attack, where their razor-sharp chelae come into play. Meantime, the scouts act as cavalry, and the spitters are ranged weapons.
Our weakness is intelligence. The average Ver!tch is as intelligent as everyone else, but the warriors, the workers, and the spitters are entirely obedient and unintelligent. In human history, a good general makes or breaks an army---this is even more true for the Ver!tch.

Offhand, I recall someone wanting Section 14, so that might be fun. I also apparently have a cluster of Ancients right off your coast, likely feeding on the brackish river outflow or something of that nature.
That was me. I'll expand into section 14 eventually.
Good, good, but I doubt we'll have much interaction at first, given the size of the Ancients and the inability of the Ver!tch to swim very far.

Also, remember who to hire when building anti-Oni defenses in the iron and classical ages.
No worries, we will definitely know where to go when looking for assistance in wars far in the future, as well as when building anti siege equipment, as long as you avoid going extinct from the many enemies you make.
(I will make a resource map that shall be unbiased soon!)

Easy when you're isolated.
However, I should make note that the Oni don't use missile weapons besides fist-sized rocks, so the joke's on you!

Ah, should have seen that. You are quite isolated then.
True... that said, schools of Singers may come ashore from time to time to forage: a varied diet is one of the staples of a hunter-gatherer lifestyle, and they would be eager to consume different food sources that didn't have to be carefully husbanded like the resources upon their abodes. Likely that will be how my Basrs acquire the disparate ecosystems I plan on them having, and coastal regions high in moisture may also find patches of shellgrass taking root in areas the Singers have visited. That might not be a good point for interaction, unless the Ver!tch tend towards living along the coasts, but it might be a point once the later Stone Age comes around.

I'm not sure how to handle our interactions though. I'd like us to be compatible, but there should be some strife initially (or else things are too easy for the two of us). Also, what is shellgrass?

Hmm. Perhaps competition over particularly calorie-rich plant resources? The Singers are obligate herbivores, so they will be quite put out if they find others harvesting particularly favored fruit sources.
Shellgrass is a tall thick nutty broadleaf grass, with the peculiarity of being particularly well adapted to highly damp and salty environments, as well as being a climbing organism. It needs no soil to grow, and flourishes in the mossy patches upon the armored mantles of Ancients; it makes up the staple food of the Singers. It would also, likely, grow well in brackish deltas and mangrove swamps.

Oh, fantastic, I can certainly see the Ver!tch entering the field of hydroponics very early on with the shellgrass. We'd probably even intersperse them with our nurseries, allowing our young to grow in the "fallow" pools (ones recovering any sort of nutrient content, I'll figure out the scientific basis later), giving us a sense of cycles that would be immensely appealing to the Ver!tch culture.
However, yes, competition over the delta area would be...good, yes...good. I'll make a post later tonight, and you can respond accordingly? Or vice-versa, up to you.
Also, Pret, can I have a raptor be in the jungle around the delta area?

You aren't the only one. I won't be part of the fight, though. I'll probably just sit atop my mountain like that old haunted house that nobody wants to go near...

Oh, sure. At least you'll try to. With neighbours like the Oni... Trust me, I've tried to do this in other RPs, but sometimes people like to pull you into the fight even if you hold up a sign that reads "I'M MUDAFUGGIN' NEUTRAL, BEECH!"

Yeah. But then again, if I am pulled in to conflict, I'll just try to defend rather than attack the others. A mountain's much more defendable than a plain or forest
