The year is 1900 and the world as we know it has changed dramatically. The Germans remain divided, the Poles stand proud as an independent nation, and France threatens to overtake Britain as a world power. These changes trace back to a common origin in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. Observing the importance of modern artillery and rapid rail movement during the American Civil War, the French quickly undertake reforms to improve their now outclassed military. When war comes, the French are ready. Breaking the back of the Prussian army at Sedan, they push into the Rhineland. The Danes, seeing their chance for revenge, launch an offensive south to reclaim lost territory. The Prussians, facing decisive defeats in the west and a new front in the north, sign a peace treaty ceding most of the Rhineland and Schleswig. Utilizing the industrial areas of the Rhine, the French build a potent navy, alarming the British who align with the newly formed North German Confederacy. Meanwhile, the Polish areas of Prussia, angered at being sent to a futile war and fueled by nationalism, begin a successful uprising. The south German states refuse to follow Prussian leadership again and remain independent. The world is now intertwined in a intricate web of alliances that threatens to plunge humanity into a horrifyingly destructive war of a scale previously unimagined. Will you lead your nation to prosperity and power, or leave it trampled in the dust?
