Hey everyone!

back from school!

I just wish I had something to post, considering I'm waiting on Erucia for Ray, and Galnius for Sigtrygg.... JAcob's parked for his and Yoshi's lunch later (excited about that, actually!) and Octavian's..... doing things off screen.... likely at the ACF....

meh.... I guess its time for Youtube to wait for people.....

But I will step up to the challenge of outdoing the rest of you! I'm pretty sure I could do it if I try!

Bump, per Swith's request.

Swith Witherward wrote:Alright, this is getting lost in pages of chatter. I'm bumping it so people can get an understanding of what we're doing. Start at this post and read through the next page.

This is your OP's challenge.
Cerillium wrote:You do good.

I'll pick on Swith.

Bran did a good post. He's got thought in there and action. He's giving a bit of the world and his character's relation to it. Short post by Bran but containing necessary information. Swith was probably tired when she replied. Sydney outlines "rules"; advice to keep them alive and to explain some methods cultists use. Clever girl. You negated a few cruel things I was preparing to throw at the girls. She neglects to ground the characters in the scene however. I sent a description to her in TG; it wasn't in her post. Bran's left blind for his next post. He can only follow up with dialog. Not fair to Bran. This happens too often in PL. Swith's experienced enough to know better.

Example of how far she's slipped into bad habits. This post was from 29 Oct 2012, Diplomacy Forums:

Damn it all, Swith. I'd like to chew you out fully but I'd be a hypocrite.

My post is absolute rubbish. I fucked over Tilt twice. I missed too many opportunities: bonding/rejecting Siduer; forming a stronger bond with Chrys; properly reacting to Dora's return to Ogoti for the coffee invitation; fucking myself out of expansion regarding Toshi's independent action.

I'm going to attempt to regain my own "rusty" skills. This means greater time between my posts. I owe it to myself and to players I'm interacting with to be at the top of my game.

Basic rules of RP: read every post. Look at what other players provide. React to it. Craft a post after spending time considering the situation. Go back and read the scene if too much time has passed in order to keep the element (theme, feel, concept) on track.

Aeten's posted a few times: I can't respond to that. There's not enough to work with. He's correct. It sounds rude but he's in his right to ask a player to provide more.

This brings up a point that I was about to make before NA made it just now:

Give players time to react. Aeten posts slowly. He crafts his response. He shot a few posts out but he assumed some players weren't expecting a response; they were only informing. Aeten should have sent a TG to NA to ask if he required a response.

Finally, follow up a post to an offline player by sending a TG to them. We circulate as well. I might be in another thread but I'll see the TG. I'll pause in my rotation to respond in PL. If you post and don't see any posts from me in OOC it means I'm in Diplomacy or General. I won't check back in with PL for an hour or so.

And now, PL Peeps... I challenge YOU!
Your OP set the standard this morning. viewtopic.php?p=16706709#p16706709

I worked hard in an attempt to top it. Now I want all of you to top me. TOP ME. Out-write me, so to speak. It doesn't mean you have to have flawless grammar or potent linguistic skills. Nope.

Work hard to add all the elements to your post:
  • Make your character a part of the world by describing the world around him. If you don't know what the world looks like, ask the person you're in the scene with. If you're in a story, let the ref of that story guide you.
  • Read the posts made so far for that scene. Carry the elements through. Post in context.
  • Remember the basics and answer these questions in your post: who, what, when, where, why.
  • Preview your post. Look for typos or mistakes and correct them.
  • Don't post right away. Stop. Reflect. Make the scene in your mind. See the world, determine your character's reaction to it, write it. Don't add shit just to have a longer post. Make every action and reaction and word count.

Someone please bump this to the next page until everyone has seen it. Thanks!

Per Nathi (Dread Lady Nathicana) on another OOC thread that was locked today:
Now here's the skinny, folks. The spam? It stops. This is not a *squee and snug* thread. It's an OOC thread for working out issues, and clarifying the IC thread. What many of you have been doing, is spam. Not acceptable.

Nathi is one of the most lenient RP peeps I've encountered. She takes a casual approach to her games, IC and OOC. If she's wagging a finger at OOC behavior elsewhere, it's in our best interest to pay attention.

So... a reminder to what we established before. This is what I see as acceptable/not acceptable as your OOC OP:
  • Greetings (*tackles NVE, chews sickle claw*) are acceptable here, but put some game-related stuff in that post! Continued banter and horseplay after that initial greeting isn't acceptable. Cover your ass by including game-related stuff in your post. Every time.
  • Mild discussions on game-applicable stuff ("Hey, did I ever describe a Chaos Space Marine's shoe size... because he just stomped on that NPC!") are fine, even if they seem offtopic, as long as it's not an invitation to debate 40K vs Doom. (There's a forum for that!)
  • Posting thread-related video links - fine. Feedback about that video - fine. The videos are always PL related anyway.
  • Talking about character development, player techniques, ways to improve, critique, etc, or asking questions about RP in general, or asking mentor advice for a different RP - fine. We bill ourselves as a place where mentoring happens. I don't mind discussing it here where players can get straight up answers from experienced people, even if it's for a Diplomacy forum RP. We aren't a typical RP. We encourage these kinds of discussions.
  • A single post to gripe about about a crappy day at work - fine. Make sure it doesn't turn into a discussion. Take it to TG.
  • Making a comment about a video game - don't turn it into a discussion. Take it to TG, or Steam, or the OSF.
  • Continue to spoiler pictures. You guys are awesome and already do this.
  • Most of all - watch the "squee and snug" shit. It's spam. We all do it. We all enjoy it. We've been really, really good at avoiding too much of it. Let's keep up that good work.

And, in accordance with my own advice...

*hugs* Bran, nice follow-up post.

Also, I'm only going to make one post and then I have to duck out for my meeting. I'll be home around 10:30 PM EST.

No, this place calms me, may take a while to post though. I've skimmed through both threads, so the standards are going up? I neither protest nor support it, it's just something to write around.

Huwwo! Back from school. So no more spam posts in OOC? Don't think that was ever my problem, but I'll make sure to avoid it!

In any case, how far has time advanced since the fight in the dining room? Just out of curiosity; checking the IC now.

@NA: Also, I'm sorry for not responding to you yesterday. I'll move us forward right once I read up on IC history so R/A are not stuck.

Its just a challenge, I think. to challenge players to type better things......

Time: early evening in Bielefeld.

NVE it begins. "Buying Girl Scout cookies is more than just being robbed and given handing over money for a box. It’s about the skills and learning a girl gains from coercing interacting directly with you. It’s about the experience of running her own mob cookie business and rubbing out the opposition working with others. It’s the reason we don’t sell cookies openly on the black market online. And it’s why we make your an offer you can't refuse encourage you to buy your cookies from a Girl Scout—the Cookie Professional!—and not her toadies parents. Your purchase means you get to live tasty cookies —and a girl learns a lifetime of skills."

I used to love it but it went down the tubes so now I hardly watch it. I usually only watch Nat Geo Wild now.

Suggestion. Urran and Torsi, you guys are doing a post/refresh/post rapid conversation. How about a collab since neither character is saying very much? Else, you could add a little more substance to your posts. A good indication of a scene going stale is if you can't think of anything to actually add to a post other than basic body language and limited banter.

There was still the unanswered question about the statue. There was Luce's comments. Investigate, perhaps? Knock on his door? You're simply tying up Tilt's character while Yoshi and Katya talk. You're in the apartment as part of Tilt's plot.

The theme of the week: challenge accepted!

by Giovenith
Because Cer and Tilt said we could! HooRAY!

Your Nation's Nickname: Giovenith

Character Name (can be different than nation name): Willow Streaks

URL to Character Picture or a few sentences about what they look like: Here. Cutie mark close-up.

Character Species (nation personification, human, alien, etc): Intelligent talking pegasus-pony

Character Powers/Special Abilities (if any):
[*]Is an artist as well, dealing mostly in abstract
[*]Like any Pegasus, can fly
[*]As a pony of the G4 MLP variety, he obviously can move more flexibly than the normal pony. This includes the limited ability to grip his hooves around things like cups or doorknobs, swivel his front legs in a manner similar to arms, sit upright if he so chose to, do whatever the hell it is happened here, etc.
[*]He is still a variety of horse, so I imagine being kicked by him wouldn't be all that pleasant
[*]Is loyal to the few people he likes

Character Weaknesses/Flaws:
[*]You know that stereotype that artists are moody, depressing people who dress in all black and spend their days contemplating the profoundness or lack thereof of the world around them and life in general? Yeah. That's him.
[*]A bit anti-social
[*]Sometimes honest to the point of verbal brutality
[*]Sharp tongue in general
[*]As mentioned before, hooves. He may have some difficulty with tasks that are very hand-required, such as using silverware or writing a message with speed
[*]His homeland, due to the magic in it, was a bit behind in some terms of tech levels where natural pony abilities covered those needs; thus, he has never before seen vending machines, phones, airplanes, computers, printers, or glass-or-plasma-screen televisions (the closest he has seen is an old projector).

Character Background: Willow Streaks is an 18 year old (they age about the same as humans) Pegasus-pony from Ponyville, Equestria. Originally born and from Cloudsdale, Willow never fit in with much of the physical challenge-oriented Pegasus culture, failing epically at sports and flying competitions of all sorts, and disappointing his parents because of it. One day, while attempting to join in on a foals' flying race, Willow took an unintentional crash detour into a house in the middle of getting a paint job, and found that he actually thought that the mess he had made looked beautiful, thus realizing his destiny as an artist and earning his cutie mark.

Most of his adult life was then spent in Ponyville at his home/art studio, doing commissions for his pushy, never-seen manager to sell for his living, and keeping out of most everyone's way. Despite this, he is friends with Sterling Venture.

Willow is very skeptical despite his creativity, not being one to immediately jump onto the "bright side" of things or assume the best. He does not tend to mince words, though he is not outright hostile towards others either (unless they push him). He has ended up in Bielefeld via a portal dumping he and a few others there, and is being reluctantly forced-by-circumstance to stay with Gio, with whom his interests match, but personality largely clashes against.

Additional Notes: Willow often disappoints Giovenith's notion of magical talking ponies as a little girl, the main source of conflict between them. He does not like her or other small children randomly grabbing out to touch or pet him, nor will he give anyone rides or flights on his back (be prepared to be dropped on your bum or hind-kicked if you try to surprise-jump on like some cowboy movie). Despite this, he tries to understand the differences and inevitable fascination bound to pop up around him from kids and girls... that doesn't mean he likes it, though.

URL to Apartment Picture: He'll be rooming with Gio! YAAAAAAY...

IMPORTANT:
One paragraph that sums up your character. This paragraph is what we'll use on your player tab on the first page of the thread. This MUST be brief. Your tab will contain a link to your application so people will have full details: A moody Pegasus-pony artist.

PL is very mature, and I'm sure this is completely unnecessary to say, but please respect these characters like any others if you have respect for us. They're not immune to death obviously, but I, we, would really appreciate it if you didn't go out of your way to hunt down them down with the full intent of destruction the moment we put them in in a memetic attempt to demonstrate how HARDCORE!!!!!!!!! you are. It's not funny or badass, it's rude. I don't go around breaking your things because I don't like their genre, and believe me, there are some that are definitely not on my favorites list.

I'm not asking that you refrain from throwing danger their way at all (that would be unfair), I'm just saying don't go all, "lol, fuckin ponies I only likez cool badass shit, tim to die little cutesy things" on us and crush them. Treat them as you would Jacob, Yoshi, or Gio.
