We like to see a bit of creativity. Would it be possible to fashion a character that isn't directly taken from a genre? I personally frown on characters fashioned in this manner.
For a start, it gets into canon wars (ie: "Captain Picard would NEVER do x action. I'm the biggest fan of this genre and I know you're playing him wrong!" nonsense from players). That's why we have characters based upon Chaos, MLP, etc that are from the genre but not the actual Immortal Emperor or Rainbow Dash.
Secondly, it's coasting. The OP doesn't care if people bring genre in but he's big on originality.
