We like to see a bit of creativity. Would it be possible to fashion a character that isn't directly taken from a genre? I personally frown on characters fashioned in this manner.

For a start, it gets into canon wars (ie: "Captain Picard would NEVER do x action. I'm the biggest fan of this genre and I know you're playing him wrong!" nonsense from players). That's why we have characters based upon Chaos, MLP, etc that are from the genre but not the actual Immortal Emperor or Rainbow Dash.

Secondly, it's coasting. The OP doesn't care if people bring genre in but he's big on originality.

Take a picture with my phone? I don't know. All I know is that his name is Leviathan. A failed experiment of combining genetic and mechanical augmentations. His skin is as tough as steel, bones are near to indestructible... And his left hand is a gaggle fuck of tentacles. Left eye is all messed up, has teeth that have enough force to cut steel, and augmented senses of sight and smell as well as touch (added so that if he does go blind he can feel the vibration of foot steps).

Oh did I mention that he is a space pirate that people come to fear and the empire cannot catch? When I get a picture of him of what he looks like in only his robe bottom, you'll see how messed up he is.

Because my imagination is fucked up that is why. I literally think of the most hideous villains and then draw them out (Wrath was an exception and maybe Superbia). Plus the creatures from the Skyrim DLC, Dragon Born, got me creating them.
