Soviet Ruk-Tsan wrote:All done.Nation name: The Rus
Form of rule: Absolute Monarchy
Location: Russia
Currency: The Rus have no single currency, but a collection of accepted ones. Ukrainian Solits, old Roman Denarii, an assortment of local ones, the works. It results in an extremely complicated system which the Czar is trying to end.
Population: 132,000,000 (1900 Estimated population of Russia.)
Internal Development Level: Low. While progress is being made, even western Russia is poorly developed in comparison to other nations. Still, Russian development rises every day, and soon enough this backwater wasteland will be the new Rome.
International Economic Strength: With no unified currency, The Rus' international economy is... complicated. Trades are almost always consisting of barter, to simplify the problem. As such, Russian economy is considered weak, though the Czar has started working towards a single currency, and a stronger economy.
Military Size: In peacetime, 660,000 (0.5% total pop). In war time, up to 3,960,000 can be called up (3% total pop)
Military Info (Optional): I really can't be bothered
Ideology: The people of the Rus make a mixing pot for the world's ideologies. Monarchists, republicans, fascists, and many more. The Czar however, reigns supreme and tries to quell any group getting too big for their boots.
Religion: Another mixing pot. Confucianism, Paganism, Mongolian Shamanism, even Abrahamic beliefs. The Rus have no state supported religion, and the Czar's preference is kept quiet.
Capital city: Moscow
National History: Before the 800's, the land we now know as the Rus had been a warzone for tribes competing for territory. Until Keivan Rus' federation of Slavic Tribes was formed. He united those he could through words and conquered others, expanding quickly. He was stopped from going too far west by the Gothic tribes to the south and Nordic tribes to the north, and so he went East. The Rus became a huge state, and while it had many problems, they were a respected people. No one would dare attack the Rus, no one except, of course, the Mongols.
The Mongolians were initially thwarted in their attempts at quick annexation of the Rus on their march west. They slowly pushed further towards Europe, the Russians fighting tooth and nail to hold back one of history's greatest destructive forces. Eventually, they came to an agreement. The Rus would be incorporated into the Mongol Empire, but would receive special status. The Rus thrived under the Mongols, growing greater than ever before. But they always held on to their contempt for their invaders.
When the great collapse began, the Rus remained neutral at first, observing the distant Romans, and their masters, collapsing. After almost a year, Dmitri Andrionov took the crown of Russia, and led them into armed revolution against the already bloodied Mongols. The Rus succeeded, and secured their homelands. But Dmitri wasn't satisfied, and marched his armies east, stopping only when he reached the Pacific Ocean, before turning around and claiming all the land between him and the Rus as his. And with the Mongols gone, no one stopped him.
It was a massive gamble. Dmitri's army was a mix of wounded veterans, elderly soldiers and poorly trained and ill equipped peasants. However, no group contested his claim, perhaps assuming he had a force to defend it. For the last 25 years, Dmitri has reigned as self-declared Czar(a bastardization of "Caesar"), and has cemented his rule. The Mongols had never cared to develop Russia, lands further west and east were their goals, and the Rus had been left to wallow in their own filth while China installed electric lights and railways.
Dmitri has began the process of making the Rus a superpower. With a large population, huge landmass, and lots of resources, it's a matter of time.
Primary Language: Russian
Secondary Language(s): Ukrainian Gothic, Siberian dialects of Chinese
Naval Ship Prefix: H.E.S. (His Eminence's Ship)
Demonym: Russian
Leader(s): Czar Dmitri Andrionov

This ban applies to you the player. Post past ban with another nation and you will lose both.
To the rest of you - in future when dealing with something like this, just report it in Moderation straight away.

Perhaps a form of obligatory bondage, then? With Rome continuing to thrive, a system that didn't really allow for abolitionism, plus wars bringing in plenty of austerity and fresh conquests during a rapid modernisation phase, slavery would likely still be around in some form.Vehemia wrote:Well the Byzantine Republic is fairly liberal so I don't think we'd continue to use slaves.
