A World of Empires (IC, Sign-Ups)

Postby Kryskov » Tue Aug 06, 2013 11:16 am

OOC

In an age were imperialism is on the rise, empires expand their borders at the cost of lives, through means of gunpowder and bayonet, empires like Britain ever expand their borders through the hot African plains, in the plains of Tsarist Russia, in the Great plains where the American armies mobilize as quick as ever, modernization is becoming a necessity to survive in this new cut throat world that uses horrible weapons of death to tear up any man woman or child who dare walk in its path, in a century of conquerors, Kings and Queens, Africa is truly prime for colonization as the internal kingdoms and the remnants of former kingdoms, struck from their former glory reside to defend from the hordes of men from England and Europe who wish to see them dead, and their land for their respective nations. In this new world people are beginning to travel quicker as technology is booming, coal has as well become a grand supply, fueling new found factories, that mas produce products for a trade economy that is booming, truly this is a new world, from our forefathers who could never dream of such a world that could exist such as this one, but they could know all too well the sorrows of the orphans and the widows who were to be torn by the hellish new means of war.

In this new age you must learn to either thrive and conquer, or wither and die, may the choice be yours as other nations, hungry for more territory, look upon your nation with envy, hoping to conquer your lands, and enslave your people, they would find little greater pleasure then owning your territory, and spilling the good blood of your people, as you must realize the pains of growth, and the costly attitudes of defence, in this new world, blood is the most important resource, the ability to defeat an enemy, and to grow an empire, how you choose to grow your empire is a decision on your own, but will as well decide the fate of your people, as well as the peoples of the world you plant your mighty flag upon, so run up the colours and prepare your people. This, my friends, is a world of empires.

Riksdag Assembly
Stockholm, Kingdom of Sweden
Empire of the Swedes
January 7th, 1820

Winter was rarely favorable on the Scandinavian peninsula, and this year was no exception. In past weeks, the Emperor had to actually use the City garrison to clear out some of the streets that were clogged with snow. The poorer families spent their days lounging behind the bakeries, hoping to catch a few burnt loafs as they were tossed into the piles of filth below, while warming their hands every time the back door swung open. As always, some would freeze to death, and others would starve, but poverty would never truly be eliminated.

Many of the Swedish ministers shared this view, as they shamelessly struck down proposed laws to provide free grain during the harsher winter months. "We must be frugally responsible in these troubled times," declared one opponent of the legislation, which roused cries of agreement from various sections of the Riksdag. Meanwhile, the Emperor, Gustav Adolph IV, watched on with interest. There was support for the law, he noted, but many disapproved of the cost. He would have to propose a variant of the bill himself in the future, to gain the people's trust, he noted.

Gustav was a tall, strongly-built man, who still had a youthful in him, despite his age at forty-four. He wore his military uniform to the assembly, as he always did. His hair was dark, with streaks of grey in it, and cut short and close to his head. He glanced down at his packet of laws, noticing it had been thoroughly filed through. He was pleased, the Riksdag could often drag on for the entire day, and this time seemed to be short and quick. He rose from his seat, clearing his throat. "If that is all on today's agenda..." he began, preparing to dismiss the assembly. The Emperor retained the right to dismiss the Riksdag assembly any time after any pre-existing bills or issues had been done, and may not even have the assembly look at any new business that day. However, the new business would then become unfinished issues upon the next assembly, and would have to be discussed then, so the Emperor could not delay a bill indefinitely. The Emperor also possessed the right to dissolve the Riksdag during times of war, though thankfully the atmosphere seemed calm.

"There is one more issue to discuss, em, Your Majesty," spoke one young Minister. His complexion and accent immediately marked him as a Swede from the Southern American provinces, He is not a minister, then, thought the Emperor. Before he could ask who the man was, the question was answered for him. One of his attendants leaned over, and whispered into Gustav's ear. "This is Johann Ketell, he is the representative of the Viceroy of New Sweden. The slaves and some of the poorer citizens in the Mosquito province have revolted, and captured a number of arms and a small town, and are threatening to export their little rebellion throughout the province." Gustav's mood darkened. He turned towards the attendent, whispering furiously, "Why was I not told earlier?" The man shook his head. "Johann here wished to discuss it before the Riksdag. He did not even inform us of his true purpose attending today's assembly until before it convened."

Johann cleared his voice, and pressed on. "As some of you may know, a small number of plantations located in the northern parts of the Mosquito province have revolted, supported by some of the indigenous peoples and poorer non-land holding Swedes in the area. They have seized the town of Port Huvuden, and the unrest is spreading to other areas." Before the man could continue, the Emperor interrupted. "And why has the Provincial garrison not stopped this rebellion?" Johann looked at his feet for a second, nervous, before continuing. "The rebels have not harmed and civilians, and much of the garrison is afraid if they march on the town, their families will be injured, as Port Huvuden houses many of the families of the garrison." Gustav shook his head in disgust. "I wished to bring this situation before this assembly, to determine what is to be done about these rebellions. Unrest in the colonies is frequent, and if there is not something done soon, larger rebellions may follow."

More debate on the issue followed. Suggestions included a larger garrison drawn from neighboring provinces, a new Slave code for the area, loosening of trade restrictions so the poor may better make a living. Then an idea came to Gustav. He rose a hand, indicating for silence. He spoke soon afterward. "It seems to me that the poor are the root of the issue. If they were fed properly, this would not be a problem." He looked around, and saw approval on many faces. "If we allow a portion of the grain reserves to be released monthly to feed the poor, then we shall not have the seizing towns and burning plantations." A murmur of agreement went through the Riksdag. Gustav sat back in his chair, pleased with himself. "Very well. Johann, inform the Viceroy that the Riksdag approves the implementation of laws to feed the poor and provide basic needs." He paused, looking around. "...After the rebellion has been put down forcefully and the slaves returned to their respective plantations." Gustav rose, and waved a hand. "I call this assembly of the Riksdag to a close."

Tuileries Palace
Paris, France
The French Empire
January 9th, 1820

On a dull January morning a light snow danced through the pale blue sky as tiny plumes of smoke puttered upward from homes, workshops and newly forming industrial centers across the ancient city of Paris. Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte slouched in his chair surrounded by countless maps detailing every geographic, political, economic and social feature across Europe. Once again he had not slept, 2 or 3 empty wine bottles littered his desk and his 5 o'clock shadow darkened the lower half of his face. Napoleon, a man of 50 years of age had grown depressed in the years since his defeat at the hands of a continental coalition and the subsequent loss of all of France's colonies/conquests.

The dimly lit study suddenly illuminated as heir to the throne, young 9 year old Napoleon Francis Joseph Charles (Napoleon II) entered pulling a small wooden horse on a string and wearing a tiny officer's uniform. The young boy stared at his father knowing full-well what he had become and felt a certain empathy for the pitiful old man.'I told you that I should not be interrupted my son.' he stated whilst attempting to regain his composure. The child approached the desk as he hastily tried to hide any evidence of his drinking the night before. The boy had no reason to be there really-just on a childish whim he entered and thought he would engage his father in conversation before a servant took him away for breakfast. 'Are the soldiers going to march through the streets again soon father?' the boy asked in reference to the new years day parade. Napoleon hardly felt like answering such a seemingly pointless question but as he looked down to shoo off the child he noticed the toy and a stoke of genius over came him. 'Cheval de Troie!' the man exclaimed standing up from his seat and pointing to the heavens-The first step on France's return to glory would start with embracing globalized industrialization just as her neighbors to the north had...The rest of his master plan could be fleshed out at a later time but for the time being his immediate coarse of action was clear thus he hugged the child and sent him on his way before reaching for a quill and pen and setting his ideas in action.........

To: The Right honorable Robert Jenkins, Earl of Liverpool,

As I am sure you are aware the British empire outmatches France in every way. She is hundreds of times richer in natural resources, manpower, religious and nationalist fervor. It is with this fact in mind that I humbly propose a trade agreement in which your nation supplies mine with resources such as cotton, coal and iron ore and in return we shall gift you with cheaply and semi-locally manufactured goods and firearms with the hope we may contribute the the greatness of your empire whilst not breaking the bank in the process. As a show of good will I will be informing my economic adviser that all goods coming from the Island of Britain will be free of all tariffs and import taxes henceforth from now until 1825 when we may re-negotiate this agreement. I look forward to your response and to a future of mutual economic growth between our two great nations.

The American people and their King ushered in the new year with Columbia's annual New Year's Parade, a showcase of of America's growing military presence combined with the people of the city of Columbia's festivals. Dancers, musicians, and other merrymakers filled the streets. It was a cool day; a bit warmer than usual, which was fortunate for both the king and the three regiments present for the parade. The 1st Massachusetts Line Regiment, the 3rd Georgia Cavalry Regiment, and the 1st Virgina Colored Regiment, marched proudly through the streets with their prussian-blue colored jackets, white trousers, trim and vests(though on the colored regiment this was green and the cavalry red), and insignia, black boot and black shakos with the bald eagle and "MDCCLXXVI" written under it. The metal parts on their Model 1816 flintlock muskets shined in the warming Sun in unison with their bayonets and the cavalry swords.

King Alexander II walked out onto the balcony of the King's Mansion where a crowd stood behind an iron fence guarded by The 1st Legionary Regiment, a slice of the force of elite troops assigned to the protection of the Federal government. The King was welcomed by a great roar of cheers and applause by those who waved small versions of the new 23-star flag. Alexander, dressed in a general's uniform (blue coat, gold trim and vest, gold epaulette, gold collar insignia, white trousers, black calf-high boots, black bicorne worn fore-and-aft with gold, red, and blue cockade, red-trimmed white belt, various decorations over heart) waved and bowed to the crowd before saluting the passing troops. Meanwhile, The Old Guard fired powder charges from their six-pounder artillery battery on the National Mall. Once the troops passed, the King unsheathed his colichemarde, nicknamed the Washington Sword in the country, and held it vertically in front of his face. He bowed, seemingly saluting the crowd the cheered for him and the soldiers that protected him.

Later, Alexander and Queen Anne sat a parlor room on the mansion's upper floor. Also in the room was the young Crown Prince Thomas Benjamin Alexander (just referred to as "Thomas" by most), of 17 years of age, and Princess Mary, of 16 years. Thomas was a bit concerning to his parents; he was more into his studies at West Point than marrying royalty, which would propel the House of Hamilton into global politics. But anyways, the Crown Prince, Queen Anne, and King Alexander II sat in the room, enjoying an evening treat of butter and bread whilst the barges filling the Chesapeake threw their fireworks into the air, illuminating the Columbian sky. In Columbia, it seemed that possibilities were endless. However, not all was well in the kingdom...

Alexander was preoccupied. He had struck a deal with the southern delegations of Congress where new states carved from the Louisiana purchase would use census records to hold an election made by solely men who had lived in the state for at least two years about whether or not slavery would be permitted. Slavery was becoming a burning issue in America, an hopefully this method would stop any further argument. It still seemed as though America was becoming two different nations fused into one; there was an industrializing north and a conservative, old-fashioned south reliant on farming and agriculture. Hopefully, King Alexander could prevent any civil war and maintain democratic ideals.

The Mexican Empire

Mexico City

Agustín I overlooked his large capital city, filled with Glory, the people happy, and the Industries producing for the nation, yet some opposed his corrupt monarchy. His actions would determine the fate of the Mexican Empire, and the people within his Empire. He ordered his Advisor's to organize Military squadrons to train in the Chihuahua desert, and that he ordered other Advisor's to encourage the public to believe in his Monarchy, but, recent actions, including the Mayan Famine during his regime, made many people turn their opinions against Agustín, though, he could do better as a Middle aged man that recently established the Mexican Empire as an Absolute Monarchy.

To improve Mexico's relations with the United States, which have been stained recently over the years, the Emperor sends a formal message to the American Monarchy.

Image
Religión, Independencia, Unión

To our American neighbors,

We know that our relations have been cold recently, but, to improve them, I wish for a non-aggression treaty between two of our nations, so that no violent conflict breaks out between us. We also propose a Trade agreement, that we will exchange Cocoa beans, Porcelain, Gunpowder, and Industrial goods, to your nation, for what you give that is. I personally think that Mexico and America should be in a friendship, and not in a violent conflict between the two of us. If relations are good, then I will be sincere enough to help you in any conflict, but you must help us in return.

We hope that this message makes a big difference in Mexican-American relations, and that we could sustain friendly relationships between each other. Let this year start out with greater glory.

Signed,
Agustín I
Divine Emperor of Mexico
Ruler of the House of Iturbide
Grand Adminiral of the Gulf and Baja Coast
General of the Mexican Armed Forces

After the message was sent, the Emperor and his family joined thousands that are celebrating the New years Festival with Dancers, food, Drinks, Games, fireworks, and toys. The Streets would be filled with a lot of celebrators and dancers doing traditional and western New years celebration traditions.

Berlin
1st January 1820

With the dawn of a new year, the Prussian people have taken to the streets, dancing and celebrating. At the same time, King Frederick William III looks on at these celebrations and is satisfied; his people are happy and he is happy. But this will not last forever. Liberal, Republican and other political enemies of Frederick are popping up all over Europe; it shall not be long before they strike.

To the East, the Russians were a problem; To the North, the Swedes may be a valuable ally; To the South, the Austrians, although once enemies, may be new allies; And to the West, the French were still picking up the pieces and Britain was a very big power, but not in the interest of Prussia. To the far west, the Americans were unusual; perhaps they could be of use later, but they had no large force in the European community, yet.

With this in mind, Frederick William sent a letter to his diplomats to contact the Swedish and Austrians to see if they were interested in forming an alliance and trade agreement. He added, that as a sign of goodwill, that Prussia was willing to send Military Training Officers to their military academies to teach their soldiers Prussian tactics.

Sancta Latine Imperii Hierusalem

Image

1st January in the Year of Our Lord 1821

Heinrich sighed as he leaned back in his throne. It was not a comfortable throne, that of the Holy Latin Empire- but a throne did, nay, should be uncomfortable. A throne should be like the man who sat on it- hard, unrelenting, ruthless in the pursuit of his goals.

Europe was faced with new problems- new politics. Heinrich spat on those new politics. The HLE was a state born in blood and no weak-willed Liberial would take it from him or the Knightly Council. No, he had other problems. The Teutons had steadily been gaining influence, their desire to finish the Crusades once and for all had never died away. Mecca was less than a hundred miles from the HLE's southern border. It should be ours.

The Templars (the strongest faction at the moment) instead clamoured for him to take the fight to the Libyans- they claimed once the Siani had been taken, within a few years they could build a canal which would double or triple the wealth of the HLE.

The Hospitilers said nothing and just eyed the Byzantines to the north. Theirs was the legacy of figures of antiquity- King Richard the Lionheart, Fredrick Barbarossa, Kaiser of the Holy Roman Empire.

The HLE stood strong- their hold on Jeursalem gave them divine right in Heinrich's eyes. No one would attack the protectors of God's Holy City. No one would dare.

The Empire of China (Land of the Dragons)
Beijing - The Forbidden City

Image

The new year had arrived and with it came magnificent festivals of all kinds and the explosions of fireworks that lit up the skies and rocked the city.

Within the Palace of Heavenly Purity, The 20 year old Dragon Emperor, Abel Lee Han Ju, watched with a smile as his massive Imperial Army assembled together in the open court below. Led by the dedicated General Shern Wern, the Imperial troops parading around with their banners and muskets high up in the air, giving praises of long life and good health to their ruler as they fired multiple shots.

Sitting on both his right and left sides, his 21 Imperial concubines began to titter and whisper among themselves as their gaze often fell upon the handsome youth who's hand and heart they all desired for themselves. Finely dressed & arrayed in the most expensive silk available in all of China, these beautiful girls come from various provinces and most had voluntarily decided to leave their noble families and bound themselves in eternal servitude to their lord......all hoping to one day bring honor to their household by being the chosen one to marry him.

As 24 year old Imperial Noble Consort Gong li Fei slyly slipped an arm around his own and leaned her head upon his left shoulder, General Hei, commander of the Plain Yellow Banner Army, approached the Dragon Emperor and knelt down on one knee whilst he clasped his hand and fist together in the traditional 'Gong Shou' greeting.

"Your highness....The Governor of Tianjin has sent word of a group of British merchants who have been caught smuggling & distributing Opium through the city."

The Dragon Emperor sighed in response.

The selling and usage of Opium was a serious crime in the Chinese Empire. A crime so intolerable that both the smuggler/distributor and the user were to be immediately sentenced to death. What kind of death was to be decided by The Son of Heaven himself.

The entire Imperial Court were automatically silenced when Emperor Lee Han Ju stood up from his throne. Following suit, the consorts, concubines, officials and guards bowed down low in obeisance as their ruler walked passed them and only relaxed and resumed their conversation when he disappeared out of sight.

As General Hei and his ruler walked down the hall towards the Imperial Chamber, The Dragon Emperor said, "Inform Governor Pyu to expect my arrival 3 days from now.....on the morning of tomorrow after the festival has ended....we shall ride for Tianjin and pass judgement onto those wretched Englishman."

As they approached the large double doors, Abel added before parting ways, "The West will soon have to be taught a lesson if they think they can destroy China by using mere stimulants."

Ciudad Capital de Granada, Estado de Nicaragua, República Federal de Centroamérica
January 1821

The young republic had many challenges ahead, namely, to unite the people as one. There were many who considered themselves Costa Ricans, others Nicaraguans, and so forth, each according to the state in which they were born. Apart from the internal identity crisis, the economy needed modernizing; for one, the nation lacked a respectable land-route network. Communication was difficult, especially in the far off areas of the republic. If all that weren't enough, the republic was neighbored by apparently expansive empires, the current administration would have to forge alliances and build an army capable of at least defending.

However, today was a new day, and the capital city of Granada was as busy as ever.

Presidente Nicolás Agustín Otárola, an opportunistic man who positioned himself as president, in part because of his wealth and the size of his "personal guards", reviewed the most recent map of the area. To him, central america was a crossroad; from east to west, the Pacific and the Atlantic, and from north to south, from the Mexican Empire to the very foreign and rather strange southern neighbor that covered the lands known as Grand Colombia. Central America had all the possibilities of becoming a regional force.

In an attempt to take down two birds with one stone, El Presidente sent an official communique to the "Excelentísimo Emperador de México ":

Comunicado Oficial de la República Federal de Centro América

EMITIDO DESDE EL PALACIO PRESIDENCIAL DE LA CIUDAD CAPITAL DE GRANADA
ENERO DE 1821

Su Majestad, Don Agustín
Excelentísimo y Divino Emperador de México
Jerarca da la Casa de Iturbide

It has come to the attention of our fair republic that it is in our two nations' best interests the formalization of diplomatic relations. We have common goals, a shared history, and we are united by blood, culture, and language. We would like for our two nations to establish diplomatic missions in our respective capitals so as to continue to cultivate strong relations.

I write to you today with the hopes of establishing our respective diplomatic missions, however, I also ask of your glorious empire a favor which I believe will be in the interest your people. I seek economic aid, investors if you will, to help develop a road network that would connect your prosperous city of Puebla to our prosperous cities of Guatemala, San Salvador, Tegucigalpa, Granada, and San José. As you may know, Central America is a bridge between South America and Mexico, through our borders come people seeking a future in the north and trade caravans wishing to supply Mexico with Gold, Silver, and other valuables from the south. By aiding us you help your country as well.

I thank you on behalf of our fair republic for your consideration and look forward to a response. If ever you have a question regarding my request for help, do not hesitate to ask me.

Sincerely,
Don Nicolás Agustín Otárola

BUCKINGHAM PALACE, LONDON, ENGLAND, BEDSIDE OF KING GEORGE III, JANUARY 2ND 1820

The day was alive outside the palace as children played, and the men worked, women spoke with one another, about daily things, church bells rang as the believers ran to praise the God they believed in, but in the bedroom of his majesty, King George III lay in bed, it was being his final days, as he lay on his bed blind and deaf, very sicken from many diseases that he had caught. Doctors stood around his bed, shaking their heads as they packed up their tools and left the rooms, as his majesty's Prince regent entered the room, Crown Prince George IV had been chosen to lead the people of the United Kingdom, after the passing of George III, and grow the prestige of the British Empire, that was to be his glorious mission as the new King. The Prime Minister had also walked into the room with the soon to be King of England and the colonies. The two soldiers who flanked the door leading to George III's bedroom saluted the Prince and said, "Your Majesty." The Prince nodded as he quickly walked to the side of his Father, who moaned in agony, he was clearly very weak at this point, George IV began to think of his Father's rule, the many years that he had commanded England and the colonies, even though he had lost the American colonies, he defended Canada, and expanded African colonies.

The Prime Minister put a hand on George IV's shoulder and said, "We must talk your majesty." George nodded as he walked with the Prime minister the office of his father, a room filled with books and maps, but sadly this was not the time to read them, as the Prime Minister placed two letters upon the desk for the Prince to see, the Prince noticed a letter, quickly scribbled on a piece of parchment, the letter was from merchants detailing the capture of British merchants by the Chinese officials, the Prince became enraged by this, and immediately demanded that a vote be made by parliament to threaten China, and demand the release of British merchants from their hold. He would be sending ships near Tianjin and Guangzhou to threaten the Chinese into releasing the British merchants, the British would not be pushed around by the Chinese.

The Prince had begun to calm down as the Prime Minister ran off to call a meeting of parliament. The Prince had noticed another letter addressed to his Prime Minister by the French emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte, he smiled as he wondered what the letter would detail, but what was upon the letter amazed even the prince as he sat in his seat, very interested by the language the French used, very humble, was the first words, yet the Prince could not think why the Emperor would be so kind as the British had defeated the French so many years ago, but he sighed, and wrote a response.

PARLIAMENT HOUSE, LONDON, ENGLAND, VOTE TO SEND NAVAL FORCES NEAR CHINESE TERRITORIAL WATERS

The Parliament was thundering as the members argued with one another in deafening tones, the Prime Minister, the right honourable Robert Jenkins sat in his chair, annoyed by the bickering of his fellow members of parliament, he stood up, banging the gavel up the oak desk in front of him, calling members of parliament to ease, and yelled "Men of England, at ease! We are here today to discuss our duty, which is to defend the people of England at all costs, and to protect the British interests, where they are found, now, in current news the Chinese Qing dynasty has detained British merchants with the assumption that British merchants have been selling Opium, this I fear has some truth, but besides that the Qing Dynasty treatment for anyone dealing or smuggling Opium into Chinese territories, the punishment for the crime is execution." He said the last few words to the angry shouts of some members of parliament.

Robert Jenkins then said, "England must show that she is not afraid to fight enemies across the world, I would like to send a fleet to Chinese waters led by Lord Livingston Nelson of York, the fleet, I plan will comprise of thirty three ships, twenty eight of the ships will be ships of the line two of the ships being 'Razees' another being a fifth rate ship and the last two being experimental Steamships, I feel that this fleet can place fear into the hearts of the Chinese government, into letting our merchants be free of their custody, hopefully the Chinese will realize their mistake and this vote will be unnecessary.

FORT FREDRICK, COLONY OF NEW CAMBRIDGE, BRITISH SOUTH AFRICA, JANUARY 1ST 1820

The New years eve for the soldiers of fort Frederick was not one filled with joy, as natives would harass colonials, only to be shot by a ranger, but the attacks were increasing as threats of a native revolution was being rumoured, the British government had responded to the threats by sending a full force of British infantry and artillery, the units that were employed were to land in Port Elizabeth the first, and make a slow march towards New Cambridge, to respond to the threats, as the days of the march had finally passed, the native Zulu and Bantu revolutionaries began to hear rumours of the force, and began to create large forces of their own, to combat the coming British forces, although armed with measly spears and shields, what the natives lacked in quality, they made up for in quantity, and spirit, the coming battle between the revolutionaries would spill blood from many of the people, but England was prepared to make the move to eliminate any revolutionaries.

On the morning of January 2nd, after a full day of marching and preparing, the sounds of a war chant filled the ears of the British defenders, as British soldiers quickly gathered their equipment, and put on their uniform, they heard the cracks of muskets, it appears the enemy underestimated. British troops quickly arise and form ranks to defend New Cambridge from the native rebels, in a perilous fight.

From: Prince Regent of the crown of Great Britain, Prince George Augustus Frederick IV
To: Qing Dynasty Emperor,
Language: English

Good day Sir, I write to inform you of the anger I am experiencing with your detaining of British merchants in the Chinese cities of Tianjin, I understand that you have accused them of smuggling Opium into Chinese ports but I find this accusation to be false, I formally demand the release of British merchants from Chinese waters. I demand that you release the British merchants as soon as possible or Great Britain will be forced into a state of war with the Qing dynasty, I do not wish to go to war with your state but if you are forcing my hand, then I fear that is what I must do, I do not wish to see any of our people perish, I simply request that you allow the British merchants to leave your custody, and I will send them to different lands, where you shall never hear of them again in your territories, now, I must ask if you believe it is worth blood to punish these two men, for I refuse to back from my promise of an embargo, if you detain them, and utter war if they are murdered. Think of your people my friend, not one man need death from British guns, and the same to be said about no British troops need a bloody end from Chinese arms.

Good day Sir, I would like to thank you for your words, they are soothing, and very kind to see that the French people hold no grudges, I fear that it almost makes me paranoid to see such kindness in such a letter, in a very humble attitude, but very nice to read such a letter, truly it is. But I understand your wish to grow the empire of France by her economy, I hope, but again, it is very nice to hear of your idea, I feel very inclined to accept, but I would like to do so in person, and must request that you visit London when you are free so that we may discuss our friendship and future possibilities between England and France!

Austrian Empire, Vienna

While Emperor Francis was in the imperial palace in Vienna, he was brought a letter from the Prussian government. "The Empire needs allies, and Prussia will make a fine one. Send an envoy to Berlin to give mister Frederick William III this letter." Francis I said, writing a letter on a piece of parchment with his quill. He sealed it and gave it to his envoy, who rushed it off to Berlin on horseback. The letter read:

Frederick William III of Prussia,

The Austrian Empire accepts your proposal for an Austrian and Prussian alliance. We can discuss the details of the alliance at my imperial palace in Vienna.

Francis I of Austria

Emperor Francis leaned back in his throne, pondering ways to restore the power of the House of Habsburg. Emperor Francis was Holy Roman Emperor before the Napoleonic Wars caused the HRE to dissolve, and he inherited the throne of Austria. He wanted to reclaim former Habsburg holdings, and was planning military campaigns to take them forcibly. He planned to move his soldiers onto a small fleet at Austria's very small naval strip, sail them through the Mediterranean and across the Straight of Gibraltar, where they would sail around France and land in Belgium to reclaim the former Habsburg holdings there, including Belgium and Luxembourg. The Empire had been gathering supplies and ships for months, and would soon have the resources needed to mobilize the fleets to the former Austrian Netherlands.

Emperor Francis also started writing another letter to the Emperor of the Holy Latin Empire of Jerusalem, and he would have another envoy take a ship across the Mediterranean to Jerusalem to deliver the message. Being a devout Catholic, Emperor Francis I decided it would be a good idea to make an alliance with the HLE. In addition, he started writing a letter to the British Empire, considering that they would be a very useful ally. He gave two letters to his envoys, one to be sent to Jerusalem, the other to London. They read, respectively:

Emperor Heinrich Von Nordheim of the HLE of Jerusalem,

I am Francis I of Austria, former Holy Roman Emperor, and devout Catholic. I am interested in establishing military and economic relations between Jerusalem and Austria, considering that us Catholics need to stick together in these times. Not to mention that together we could easily defeat the Byzantines in a war, which would be a highly profitable venture for us both. If you should wish to discuss the details of such an alliance, we can meet in either Vienna or Jerusalem to speak in person.

Francis I of Austria

King George III of Britain,

I am Emperor Francis I of Austria, and I wish to propose an alliance between Britain and Austria. I am planning an invasion of the Belgian and Luxembourger states to restore the Austrian Netherlands, and British assistance would be a great asset. In return, we will be more than glad to offer Britain large quantities of tariff free Austrian weapons and agricultural goods in addition to free trade between the Austrian Netherlands and Britain.

Francis I of Austria

Meanwhile, in the very small amount of coastal territory Austria had, a naval fleet of around twenty three vessels was preparing to depart toward Belgium as soon as the order was given by the Emperor. The fleet would be able to hold several thousand Austrian soldiers, and if the British were to assist than the conquest of Belgium and of Luxembourg would be relatively easy.

Sancta Latine Imperii Hierusalem

Image

January 6th, In The Year of Our Lord 1821

The four men sat around the table. Heinrich sighed as he regarded his fellow members of the Knightly Council.

They were the third, fourth and fifth most powerful men in the HLE; after the Lord and himself, of course. A fifth chair sat slightly raised behind Henirich; no living being had ever sat in that chair, since it was reserved for Him, should He ever appear.

"I hereby announce the beginning of the 2134th Knightly Council since the founding." Heinrich announced. "Grand Master Moray, is there anything in the wider world of Christendom of interest to this council?"

Moray swallowed. "I have here, Emperor," He held out a letter with the royal seal of the Hapsburgs emblazoned on it. "What I believe to be a alliance offer or similar from your former Western counterpart."

"Open it then, Moray." Simon, Grand Master of the Teutons, pushed. "Let's see what the Kaiser has to offer."

Moray broke the seal and pulled out the letter, which he read out.

"Well, gentlemen." Heinrich began. "I can think of no reason to refuse such a offer."

Jaques, Grand Master of the Hospitilers, nodded agreement. "Neither can I, Emperor. With your permission, I will write a reply to this letter, should my fellow Grand Masters..." Jaques gestured to Moray and Simon. "Agree to it."

Heinrich turned to Simon and Moray. "Well, gentlemen? Do you agree with myself and Jaques?"

Moray nodded in approval, while Simon spent a moment thinking about it before he also nodded in agreement.

"Very well. Jaques, you may begin your letter."

To: Kaiser Francis I of Austria, Hungary and Croatia

The Sancta Latine Imperii Hierusalem finds your offer most agreeable. I feel that this arrangement needs no discussion, however, if you would like a summit to be arranged between our two nations I will happily hold it in Acre, our capital.

The Ethiopian Empire,
Addis Abeba, Imperial Capital City

The unforgiving sun beat down heavily on the mountainous metropolis of Addis Abeba, warming the city to an average of 20 degrees centigrade. A geographic quirk of the mountainous highland terrain, however, meant the sun's domain was not applied equally. Across the city, the temperature ranged by an average of 10 degrees as the various hills and plains competed for dominance. Regardless, traders and artisans hustled and bustled through, conducting commerce and selling wares from all over the Empire and beyond. European goods, Latin goods, even Asian wares were found here, bartered, and sold. The burgeoning city was only 10 years old, and was growing rapidly. Here, at the foot on Mount Entoto, Addis Abeba was a growing metaphor of the prosperity and stability of the Empire.

From his palace on Mount Entoto, Emperor Tewodros II overlooked the city of one hundred and twenty thousand citizens in the valley below. In the city's eastern regions, where the military barracks where the Royal Guardsmen were headquartered, he could hear the distant bangs of cannon fire, and echoing popping noises of muskets. A shipment of Russian weaponry had arrived the night before, and his forces were being trained on the new weapons as part of a national campaign to overhaul the country's armed forces. When Tewodros II reunited the nation under him just 13 years ago, it became startlingly clear just how outdated and behind Ethiopia was. If the land of the conquering Lion of Judah was to survive, he would need to lay a new foundation for the nation.

Emperor Tewodros II was late in his prime at the stark age of 41, but he was a well revered leader among a strong and great people, and often said his passion for his nation kept him in good health. Down in the city below, he knew his ministers and Parliament awaited him. The first session, which would no doubt be starting soon, would discuss the funding of a national university, and he was due to make a speech. In fact, politics required him to be in the capital for the next few weeks, and he was well aware this was the last time for at least a month, that he would visit Entoto Palace. The Imperial Palace in Addis Abeba was larger, and much more grand. It was largely unfinished however, and not nearly as peaceful. Ministers and couriers, citizens from far and near coming to make a plea to the Emperor. He chuckled. It was amazing he and the Empress got any sleep. The palace grounds contained multiple different churches, however, and he'd always found them to be a spiritual heaven. The most notable, the Ta'eka Negest (Resting Place of Kings) Ba'eta Le Mariam Monastery, carried a large Imperial crown at at top of the dome. The church would serve as a mausoleum for Emperor, his wife Empress Taitu, and princess Zewditu, his daughter and future successor. Other churches within the grounds were the Se'el Bet Kidane Meheret Church (Our Lady Covenant of Mercy) and the Debre Mengist St. Gabriel Church.

His eyes turned once more to the city's eastern regions as a large cloud of smoke rose forth from a particularly loud series of cannon reports. Beside him, a familiar scent washed over him as the smooth soft hand of the Empress touched his. She smiled at him, stepping by his side as the looked over Addis Abeba at the plains and forests beyond. Even at this height, the city seemed like a bastion of civilization in the wilderness. And as Africa fell to colonization. It certainly did feel that way. One city, one nation, against the world.

But by the grace of God. It would change. Ras Tewodros II summoned an aide, and ordered him to forward a message to his Prime Minister, it was time for Ethiopia to reach out. She had found economic partners in Russia and the Holy Latin Empire, but if Ethiopia was to survive and thrive in this...this...world of empires she would need friends.

Esteemed Leaders and Monarchs,

It is our wish at this time to extend a hand in friendship and cooperation to the world. We are also willing to offer facilities for trade vessels and merchant fleets traveling by Eastern Africa, and are eager to learn and trade with our fellow states across the globe.

We warn all who regard us as weak, or intend to bring their imperialistic hunger to our shores, that Ethiopia is a strong and fiercely independent empire that has stood for almost a thousand continuous years and we will not be subjugated. Friend or foe, nations across the globe will know our cultural prowess, and soon feel our political and economic might as well. We offer this chance now, for any and all powers across the globe to set up diplomatic relations with our great nation, and span a new era of prosperity.

República del Oeste de Sudamérica

La Paz
In the young republic there was 34 Provinces each one had its representative, and all were currently in La Paz,discussing important matters in the Governmental Palace. After Lima was burned, which would have been the Capital,La Paz was chosen due to its center location and because the government feared an invasion.La Paz had become the center of the Republic, becoming the richest, due to its nearby mines and the cultural capital because of the many ethnic groups. The city buzzed as small factories outside the city produced goods to be exported all around the world.Back in the Governmental Palace,Simon Bolivar his vice president and the 34 representatives were discussing the obstacles that the Republic faced. The Main topic was Transportation, and maintaining the people united and happy. The government feared that after Bolivar's presidency, the republic would dissolve as they were all united by Bolivar's popular policies.Apart from the barely united people, the republic was very large and communication and transportation between the South and the North was very underdeveloped. In a lesser topic was Lima's rebuilding, the city had been burned to the ground four years ago during the war and still no construction had begun. While some politicians wanted to build the city to resemble those of Europe, others wanted to build it like in the pre-colonial era.

Rebuilding Lima
Day 532

Lima was still in ruins, the government had yet not decided if they wanted a European like city or a city that resembled those of the glorious Inca past.Plans had been sketched yet they all failed to portray, what the government wanted.Lima had once been the center of all,an economic hub that could rival European cities, unfortunately it was burnt down, its wealth was stolen and the southern ports of Valparaiso and Concepcion now fill that role that Lima had left.Lima's ruins stood tall even though it was a mere shadow of what it once was,the government had to act fast as Lima was needed to show the country's wealth to the outside world,as for now it only represented a weak nation that could easily be taken advantage of.

Economy
After independence, the liberal government under Simon Bolivar begin reforming the country's economy. The new government wanted less dependency in mining and begin investing in it's industry, since then small factories have begun appearing in cites. The goal is to drive the economy to an export orientated one.Though still being considered poor and underdeveloped by western standards, the economy has been growing steadily. The young republic hopes that eventually the country will attract foreign investment and that it will make the country richer.

La Paz
After the meeting, their had been no solutions to the problems that the republic faced.Lima's rebuilding would be costly and building a rail that would cross the entire nation would also be very expensive. As for now the people were happy and with the economy steadily growing,a telegraph line could be built between the cities of Juliaca,La Paz and Cochabamba. However it would take months for construction to begin and with Lima still in ruins. The Government had been optimistic recently hoping that by investing in it's industry and becoming an export orientated country, the republic would be able to afford to rebuild Lima and connect every city with out going broke.

To Emperor Augustin of Mexico, in repy

Dear neighbor and comrade,

The Kingdom of America appreciates your correspondence. The treaty is most appreciable and we consent to it. However, the trade agreement is a bit puzzling, for America has an industrial capacity equal or greater than Mexico's. We propose the following:

Mexico:
Spices, fruits, etc.
Raw metals and minerals
Jewelry
Exotic timbers

America:
Machinery
Coal
Silver
Wheat, cattle

Sincerely,
Chancellor James Monroe
Courtier of King Alexander II Hamilton, King of America and her territories.

To the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, in reply

Dear sir,

America appreciates your offer and congratulates you on resisting European colonial might. We would be happy to trade for your raw resources.

Sincerely,
Chancellor James Monroe
Courtier of King Alexander II Hamilton, King of America and her territories.

With Chancellor James Monroe handling Ethiopia and Mexico's requests, a new issue, brought to the attention of Alexander, was bearing Monroe's name. The American Colonization Society proposed the establishment of the colony of Liberia, with the city of Monrovia, on the Pepper Coast of Africa. To fill this colony, the ACS enlisted the help of freed black volunteers. The first wave of emigrants would depart soon, equipped with mosquito nets to prevent the outbreak of pest-borne disease.

Alexander also signed into law the Western Act, which claimed the rest of this 'Colorado' area under American control and attempted to re-solidify American claims in the Oregon territory.

Madrid, The Empire of Iberia
January 10th, 1821

Iberia needed some new friends. At least this was the opinion of Ferdinand VII, King of Portugal and Spain and Emperor of Iberia. The nations of Europe have been chilly at best with Iberia ever since it's foundation, which is why Ferdinand looked not to Britain or France, but to the Near East. Palestine, to be more accurate. The Kingdom of Jerusalem was a Mediterranean power, and so was Iberia. But this wasn't his only ambition. He wished to gain credibility in the eyes of Christian nations with this holy move. He also saw that the Protestant and Orthodox nations were becoming friendly. Maybe a Catholic alliance could be founded too? He drafted this letter in his study:
To: The Kingdom of Jerusalem
From: The Empire of Iberia
Greetings, Your Majesty. I, the humble Ferdinand VII of Iberia, look with envy upon your most holy lands. I hope that our humble kingdom can be great allies and friends with yours. I seek an alliance and a trade agreement for our nations. It is my hope we can found an alliance that might expand to encompass not only us but other nations of Europe and perhaps even abroad.
Signed,
King Ferdinand VII

Imperial Palace
Stockholm, Kingdom of Sweden
Empire of the Swedes
January 15th, 1820

"Posturing, all of it," spat Gustav, reclining in a large chair of fine leather. Europe was a storm of diplomatic messages, with more than one alliance being hurriedly cemented to ward off hungry eyes. Alliances were dangerous, and only brought trouble. This was a well-known fact, and has guided Swedish diplomacy for over a century, guiding it safely into its greatest height of power in its history since the days where fearsome raiders in dragon-bowed longships terrorized the seas and struck fear in the hearts of peasants and rulers alike. "Posturing it may be, but at the end of the day, if we do nothing then we will be alone, your Majesty," spoke Frederick Schumann, one of Gustav's trusted advisers, hailing from the Swedish province of the Duchy of Mecklenburg. The man was a tall, thin and older gentlemen, with snow-white hair.

The Emperor sighed, and took a sip from a nearby glass filled with a presumably alcoholic drink. He glanced over the message in front of him again, sent from the Prussians to the south. Strange, he thought, as the Prussians were never a stalwart friend of the Swedes. Then again, it made sense, as they shared a common threat to the east. He chuckled, reading the offer of Prussian military support to the Swedish army. "It is them that should take queues from us," he said, pushing the letter aside. "But I suppose we will need friends. Go to Berlin, Schumann, and hammer out the details for this alliance." Schumann frowned. "Is that wise, your Majesty?"
"You are my appointed Adviser. You carry my authority. Now go."

Sancta Latine Imperii Hierusalem

"Is there anything else, Moray?" Henirich asked. The letter to Austria had been dispatched mere minutes ago, and the Grand Masters had no doubt already informed their following Orders.

"It appears no-" A messenger walked into the room, and bowed before handing Moray a second letter, this time with the Royal Seal of Spain.

"Well," Heinrich said. "Let us see what the Spanish have to say for themselves."

Moray read the letter out.

Simon's brow furrowed. "A alliance with both Spain and Austria? This would essentially mean that the two Hapsburgs are allying once again, and with us as well. We do need the Spanish for access to the straits of Gibraltar and the Western Mediterranean, however. I suggest we agree, and invite them to join us and the Austrians in Acre for a summit."

"I concur." Moray added.

Jaques then spoke. "The Sancta Latine Imperii has had enough trouble with the heathens. Let us not tie ourselves up with false European ambitions."

"I agree with the Templars and Teutons." Heinrich decided. "We will agree with the Spanish, and invite them to a summit were us, the Austrians and them shall all be present."

The Grand Masters nodded agreement.

To: Ferdinand VII, King of Portugal and Spain and Emperor of Iberia

The Sancta Latine Imperii Hierusalem finds your offer most acceptable. Furthermore, we wish to extend a invitation to Iberia to attend a summit in Acre between the Sancta Latine Imperii and Austria in order to create a triple alliance across the Mediterranean for the mutual benefit of us all.

Receiving the message from the Emperor of the Holy Latin Empire, Emperor Francis was quite happy to hear their response. "This is most good news, I am glad that we took the time to deliver a message to the Holy Latin Empire." Francis said, smiling, to his advisors. "Perhaps we should also establish an overseas colony, in Asia, Emperor? I hear of a faraway land known as Transoxthraxia in need of modernization, we might be able to sway them to give us a decent sized colony in exchange for a few weapons and the like. Asian spices and silk from our colony would bring unimaginable wealth to Austria, and it would give the Empire international connections such as the likes of Britain and the colonial powers." His foreign advisor, Frederick, said. Emperor Francis nodded, and said "Yes...A most good idea. I shall dispatch a small vessel with an envoy to Xaan Alxdr of Transoxthraxia, see if we can make a deal with them." He sat down at his desk and started writing letters to Jerusalem and Transoxthraxia. They read, respectively:

Emperor Heinrich Von Nordheim of the HLE of Jerusalem,

This is good news. I shall come to your city of Acre in two weeks time by sea, as I am quite busy with major military affairs of Austria. We are currently planning an invasion of Belgium and Luxembourg to restore the Austrian Netherlands. If Jerusalem will be able to assist in any way, we will make certain to offer the Holy Latin Empire free trade and tariff free goods in exchange.

Francis I of Austria

Xaan Alxdr I of Transoxthraxia,

I am Emperor Francis I of Austria, of the House of Habsburg. I wish to make you an offer. Austria is a very modern empire, and we have surpluses of weapons, agricultural tools, and the like. We also are seeking out colonies abroad, and Asia is a very desired location for them. So, I present you an offer:We will ship Transoxthraxia a large number of weapons, tools, and the like, and give you a small group of advisors to tell you how to use them, in exchange for a plot of fertile coastal land for an Austrian colony.

January 1st, Year 18 hundred and 20
Tripoli, Libya
Imperial States if Libya

Emperor Casspi sat upon his throne, which was studded with red gems from it's legs to armrests, and looked outside his window, which gave a magnificent view of the capital of Tripoli. A truly wonderful sight indeed, a city that was war-torn almost a century ago, was now at the center of the Libyan Empire, an empire that has been able to stand for over 40 years. In Casspi's eyes, his empire was only rivaled by that of the British Empire, after his father led the empire to defeat the Byzantines in 1797, the Casspi regime thought they were unbeatable, but , alas, this opinion was very seldom in the civilian population.

Even the soldiers knew that they could be easily overwhelmed if a more modernized force attacked the empire, and they would have very little chances of defeating the invasion. Through all this, however, Casspi still believed his nation was near unvanquishable, but he had enacted a project to modernize the armed forces, this was a still a very lengthy, and a very costly reform for the empire.

Casspi thinks very lowly of non-Muslim nations, but with growing fears of the population, he may have to set aside his values for the survival of his father's Empire, and the survival of his father's legacy. Casspi dressed for his speech for the new year, all townspeople would be forced to go, otherwise they would be risking imprisonment, or worse - execution - Casspi stepped onto the Imperial Palace of Tripoli's balcony, clearing his throat before speaking.

"People of the empire. Today is a new day for the empire!" He began.

" But, it is not just a new day for the empire, it is a new day for the entire continent of Africa! For too long, the African people have been subject to the tyrannical rule of Europe, Asia, and the rest of the world for far too long, and today is where I draw the line! The lands of Africa will one day be united under the rule of the Imperial States of Libya! We will free them from the oppression that our founders felt! We will free them from the tyrants that control them! We will become a new African empire! But doing so will not be easy, we - no. I need you to join the military to help free these people! Do it for your oppressed brothers! Do it for Africa! Do it for there empire!" Casspi said returning to his throne.

He sat back and tried to relax, though he was still bothered by something. Britain had a colony in west Africa. This means if he wanted to form an African Empire, it would surely mean war with the British Empire and her allies. The Imperial States needed some allies, and Casspi knew this for sure, but being a target of many nations around him, how many allies would he be able to find?

The Prime Minister looked at Ferdinand.
"Do you think this is smart, sire?"
"Yes! If we are to survive we must have powerful allies.

The Empire of Iberia would like to accept your offer. Myself, King Ferdinand VII will attend this congress at Acre personally, and will embark within days. We hope that this is the beginning of a powerful Catholic alliance.

The Ethiopian Empire, Addis Abeba,
Imperial Capital City, Grand National Parliament

Droughts. Ethiopia's natural enemy, the worst and most frequent form of natural disaster to plague the empire. The solution of which, was the issue the Grand National Parliament found itself debating today.

Seated comfortably on his throne against the center back wall of the unicameral chamber, Emperor Tewodros II watched the proceedings with interest. He was dressed in a simple Dashiki, having opted to leave the larger ceremonial flowing robes at the Imperial Palace. His thick braided hair came down to his shoulders, and he gently pushed one dreadlock out of the way to scratch an itch on his neck. His presence in Parliament was rare, as he usually was represented by the Prime Minister, but the issue of Ethiopia's drought crisis had attracted scholars from all over the world to speak on the subject, and Tewodros II instantly realized the value in that.

"...and that is why I propose a national system of reservoirs and irrigation networks be built", one scholar, a man from the Sudanese border, had said. "The rainy season skips every 10 or so years, we know this. Why not build a network of water preservation and irrigation systems that will trap and capture the water before it goes to waste, and store it in the event of a dry season or crop failure?"

"But how," commented one Parliamentarian, "would we possibly afford such a venture? And where would we begin? The national coffers are not exactly brimming with gold, who would even lead such a project?"

"Yes," continued another. "The facilities you are referring to would have to be huge, and what of leaks and other possible weaknesses?"

"It is my belief," responded the scholar. "That such a project is not only plausible, it can be built and funded without much of a dent to the national coffers. This would mean, however, that the effort would require a substantial financial contribution by the tribes and lordships that house them"-at this point the members of the House of Lords start talking and complaining loudly, causing the scholar to yell-"but the long term benefits would be unparalleled. Ethiopia would be able to store and utilize her own resources effectively."

A familiar hand dropped on the Emperor's shoulder, causing him to turn round and stare curiously at his friend, Prime Minister Giyorgis. "We have a message from the Kingdom of America, as well as news from Libya", he whispered. "The Americans have offered to trade in exchange for raw materials, and today the Libyans made it clear that we are not the only independent state in Africa. I would say the Libyans are still likely an aggressive wild card, but it would be good to have a fellow African nation to call upon in times of duress."

Tewodros II smiled. Giyorgis was nothing but blunt. "Very well. Reach out to the Libyans," commanded the Emperor. "But negotiate with the Americans. We need their weapons and they need minerals, yes, but if we are to build a great nation, the world needs to need us for other products as well. Copper, Zinc, and Gold can't be extracted forever."

Prime Minister Giyorgis nodded. There was work to be done.

TO: Imperial States of Libya, Emperor Casspi
FROM: The Holy Ethiopian Empire, Office of The Chief Minister
SUB:Relations

Your Excellency Emperor Casspi,

It is our wish at this time to extend a hand in solidarity towards your empire. For far two long, we have let religion separate our goals and blind us from our one true duty to Africa and her people. To work together for the continued goal of African independence from Europe.

At this time, I propose the establishment of full diplomatic relations and open trade between our two states to nourish a connection between our two great nations. For the future of Africa, we humbly request that you consider our offer, and permit us to establish a permanent diplomatic mission in Tripoli, to represent the Empire and its interests in Libya.

~ Signed,

Chief Minister Habte Giyorgis,
Representative of His Holy Excellency Ras Tewodros II, Emperor of Ethiopia and Leader of the Land of The Lion of Judah, Light of East Africa

TO: The Kingdom of America, Chancellor James Monroe
FROM: The Holy Ethiopian Empire, Office of The Chief Minister
SUB:Relations

Your Excellency Chancellor James Monroe,

While we sincerely appreciate your offer, we wish to further expand upon the terms of a possible agreement. Raw materials, as your government puts it, are also widely in use within the boundaries of Ethiopia as well and, as such, relatively scare for export. This is, of course, assuming you mean materials like iron, copper, cobalt, and so on and so forth. However, Ethiopia does have sizable deposits of gold, gems, and salt, and we would be more then willing to export these goods to America, in addition to the traditional exotic fruits and foodstuffs that also come with such trade. However, we would also like to for you to consider expanding our trade relations to permit Ethiopian textiles to be exported as well.

We are well aware that a sizable minority of your nation springs from former slaves, some of which were possibly captured from our very lands. In the interest of the future, however, we offer you the following. Ethiopian textiles and other cultural wares will help give the blacks of America an identity, as well as identify your country as a progressive and truly liberating nation that accepts them for who they are. Having access to goods and materiel from their home continent can pacify troubled peoples and-although some may come from lands to the west-ease the transition into a freer American society.

If you can agree to that then, we also wish to negotiate potential arms sales and the export of technological knowledge to Ethiopia as well. Helping us to empower ourselves through military and technological assistance will do more then win you an ally in the region, it will show the world that America is truly a forward thinking, democratic, and fair society.

~ Signed,

Chief Minister Habte Giyorgis,
Representative of His Holy Excellency Ras Tewodros II, Emperor of Ethiopia and Leader of the Land of The Lion of Judah, Light of East Africa

Chief Minister Habte Giyorgis of Ethiopia, in reply

Sir,

The label "raw materials' refers not just to metals, but anything naturally in existence, like gems, salt, food, and etc.

As to Ethiopian textiles, we decline this offer. Giving the blacks of America old African clothing would compromise all we have done to civilize them and their species. Nor do we wish to be seen as the radicals that you call "liberals."

Because of this, America drops the request for the trading of general technological knowledge, but will give modern firearms to your armed forces, and will give officers in your military classes so that they may effectively and safely train lesser ranked soldiers on their operation.

Sincerely,
Chancellor James Monroe,
Courtier of King Alexander II Hamilton

China - Tianjin a.k.a 'A Port for the Emperor'

Governor Pyu received the Dragon Emperor respectfully by kowtowing before him.

"My majestic ruler.....you honor me and the city with your presence here."

The 20 year old Emperor Lee Han Ju nodded as he dismounted from his horse and started walking towards the Tianjin prison building as he said, "I expect that the letter from the British mainland containing their whines and pathetic threats should have reached you by now."

Governor Pyu nodded as he produced a letter from the folds of his sleeve. The Emperor took it and read what was said on it and smirked when he finished. "So their king wishes to see his people escape without punishment eh? claiming that they are innocent even after we ourselves have material evidence of the serious crime they have committed......and the result is a war between China and England if we do not comply."

Hearing this, General Hei who had accompanied him to Tianjin, immediately knelt down on one knee and clasped his hand and fist together before fiercely stating, "Your imperial highness......let me be the one to lead the armies into battle....I will guarantee you a swift and glorious victory against those English swine."

Abel laughed for a moment as he folded the letter and gave it back to the governor.

"Hold on my dear general....lets not be so hasty....Great Britain holds the most powerful navy in the world afterall."

"That may be so your grace," General Hei replied, "But we have the largest number of troops for a battle on land and the grandest. Surely we can defeat those dogs and teach them a lesson on Chinese terrain."

Emperor Lee Han Ju thought for a brief moment.

"True true....but we must not underestimate the British land forces as well. For now.....we shall comply and release them according to the letter."

General Hei looked up at his ruler with a shocked expression.

"B-b-but you highness.....allow me to speak freely please.....are you saying you're going to free the people responsible for the crime of smuggling and distributing Opium?...and the ones who are the cause for making hundreds of our kinsmen miserable?"

Abel didn't reply to that but just smiled as he turned back to Governor Pyu. "Send a reply back to Great Britain. Tell them that the Dragon Emperor has lifted the order of execution upon the perpetrators and that he we will let their merchants return to their homelands in order to prevent a war between our two nations............BUT........only after we have given them the justice they still deserve. Afterall....the act was committed on Chinese soil and on Chinese soil they will receive their punishment. If the British cannot accept even that small bit of justice then King George is but a small snake-tongue fool."

Governor Pyu nodded in compliance and sped towards his office to do has he had been bidden.

To General Hei, Emperor Lee Han Ju continued, "Don't look so disappointed general....you'll get your desire for revenge soon. Tell me......what is the punishment for a rapist in China?"

General Hei frowned in puzzlement. "Castration....your highness......to humiliate and disgrace the criminal who has done the act of humiliating and disgracing his victim."

The young ruler continued casually, "And hasn't the British merchants humiliated and disgraced all of China by selling Opium to its people and making them look like pathetic weaklings?"

General Hei smirked as he finally understood where this was going. "I shall send for the Imperial Torturer right away your majesty....and after that we still release them?'

"Yes....of course....or Great Britain will never learn the lesson......that the Chinese shall never forget nor ignore an insult, just to please their foreign neighbors. "

Korea - The Land of The Tiger
Seoul - Gyeongbokgung Palace

The beautiful 20 year old Princess Ara Lee Han Ju, older twin sister of the Dragon Emperor and the newly crowned Queen of Korea, sat in her bedroom chamber studiously writing a letter.

To: Emperor Heinrich 4th of the Holy Latin Empire

On behalf of my country and my people, I would like to kindly request an alliance between our two great nations. The reason for this is mainly because Korea has been isolated for too long from the outside world and is in need for some contact with the West. But it is also partly because of the Catholic religion which as you should now know has become a minority in both China and Korea. I have specifically chosen to write to you as your kingdom has a long standing and dedicated history of being Catholic and fighting for Catholicism. Thus I trust that you have countless of priests and missionaries at hand and to spare to send to my country and start converting more of my paganistic people. I myself, although not baptized yet, desire to learn more about the teachings of Jesus Christ.

I have to honestly tell you though that my brother does not know about me writing this letter to you nor whether or not he will approve of me doing so. But don't worry.....as the Queen of Korea your people will be provided with full protection as long as they remain on Korean soil. Not even my brother would dare go against me and risk a civil war.

Yours Ever,
Ara Lee Han Ju,
Queen of Korea and Princess of China
