"I am deeply touched," Charles said, "Now then, shall we dance?" And with that he lead Princess Aigi onto the floor, and although a pit grew in his stomach he proved that he could dance quite well, if he set himself to do so.

"Thank you, my lord," he replied. As soon as he led Aigi to the floor, she danced as well as Charles, to the music.

Changchun, Manchuria

When the dances were over, including a Chinese dance that Earl De la Warr would have to follow the Princess' lead, he finished by giving her a necklace with Jade and Pearls on it, "That you may remember this golden evening my dear," he said.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

The British eastern force now sent boats onto Lawlor Island, and a force would leap past them onto McNabs Island and bring artillery in.

The Americaners were now panicking, trying to hold all these new fronts.

The British now took the islands and moved some of their artillery onto the islands, and British forces were now past the Bedford Basin, heading into the north end of Halifax. Graves main goal right now was to send his forces up to the Halifax Citadel, the fortress which has defended Halifax since its creation.

Halifax, Nova Scotia
June 10, 1836

Dartmouth had now fallen to the British, and the Halifax dockyards were in their hands as well, all focus turned to the citadel, which was now falling as sun rose.

The British had now subdued the Americans in Atlantic Canada and in Maine. The colonial governors would soon return, while the British paused waiting for more forces to head down the river St. Lawrence, but that would take months.

The resistance in Oregon still had to be quelled, but it appeared that it could be managed. Fremont eluded the British.

Finally, the Daoguang Emperor came out, after observing and saying in a heavy Manchu accent (heavier than his daughters), "Sirs, now that you had your chance to court my daughter, I shall send two of you to my quarters," and then told Adolphus and Charles, "Lord Adolphus and Sir Charles, com with me to my quarters."

He then said to the rest, "May you have better luck in the future," and leading the two men along with Aigi to the Emperor's quarters.

The two gentlemen followed the Emperor to his quarters, wondering what he had in mind, though Lord Adolphus, as son of the King, thought he could guess. It would be a difficult meeting for these two English gentlemen, and if it went the way he hoped, he would still have to get permission from his father, even if he couldn't take the throne.

Finally, they arrived to a "royal quarter." It was not much of a bedroom, it was a living room, really, and the Emperor and Aigi sat down. As soon as the two sat down, the Daoguang Emperor said, "You two are my two choices to marry Princess Aigi. However, I can only choose one for Aigi. To make my decision easier, I shall let my daughter ask a question."

Aigi then asked them, "If you were going to go on a journey of revenge, how many graves would you dig prior to departure?"

Lord Adolphus simply answered, "Two graves. One for my enemy, and one for myself."

Earl De La Warr answered, "I would dig but one grave, for I would search to forgive my enemy. But if he wronged those I hold dearest, I would do what I could to destroy him."

While Adolphus got it right, the Daoguang Emperor decided to explain to De La Warr, "Sir, you do realize that if you go forth to kill your enemy, the son of your enemy will strike back? That is why Adolphus has gotten it right, because if you kill an enemy, their son will inevitably kill you, and you have just laid the seeds of a feud as your son goes to kill his son and it goes on and on."

"It may have cost you Aigi, but I am willing to appoint you as an adviser on foreign policy, for a few hundred yuan a year, if you accept," offering him a job in China.

July 1836

The Empress' health was not that well. The woman's 82 years on the earth had put a great strain on her body's capabilities to perform. The woman had already celebrated her Diamond Jubilee two years prior, and the East Asian Commonwealth considered her to be a grandmotherly figure, presiding over a great number of islands and territories, with some air of wisdom of sixty-two years of life.

The Empress knew that her time was not long for the Earth, however. She stood up and made arrangements with her eldest son George, and with several British diplomats who were being rotated soon. The Empress, and the Princess of Wales were both interested in visiting Britain for some time. The Empress believed visiting Britain would renew her health some more, and the Princess of Wales wanted to acclimate to British culture before she ascended to the throne.

So, in July 1836, Empress Akiko and Princess Victoria departed Japan upon a British naval ship. The Empress turned and faced the shoreline and smiled faintly, seeing the retreating Tokyo skyline. Little did the elderly Empress know, this would be the last time she would see her beloved homeland.

Atlantic Canada

By early August the victory in Atlantic Canada was complete. Britain was once again in control of the Maritime Colonies and Maine, and it gave good data for the subjugation of the rest of British North America. Ishikawa and Burnes were released from their internment and sent home to Britain. Burnes went to India and would play a role in events there in the coming years, some of which will be related in time. Ishikawa was ready to return to America when the need arose, but Britain was now pausing for a time to build more men and supplies for an assault on Lower Canada. This would hopefully be ready by the middle of autumn.

Oregon Country

By now the Oregon Colony was restored to British rule as well, and the search for Fremont was called off when it was discovered he was likely in Texas. That would have led to wars Britain was not ready for. For now Keane was told to wait.

Buckingham Palace
London
August 3, 1836

The summer remained cool, which led to a disaster of the first magnitude in Ireland. The potato crop failed for the first time since the mid 1780s, and though there was no serious famine, food was becoming scarce. Parliament was now considering modifying the tithe rules in Ireland, whereby Irish Catholics had to either pay taxes or even give livestock to the Church of Ireland(the Church of England's outpost on the island). Indeed, Parliament would soon vote on something called the Tithe Commutation Act, which would abolish these kind of tithes-in-kind.

In the meantime the Crown had gained more power with the passage and implementation of the Durham Act, removing the secular authority of the Bishop of Durham and subjecting him and the region directly to the Crown. In addition, Parliament was considering the Marriage Act, which would make marriage a state matter rather than a church matter.

But today King William's focus was on the arrival of his guests, Empress Akiko and the young Princess Victoria. They said they would be staying for some time, and he had arranged for them to have all the comforts he had. He had also today sent has approval of the marriage between Lord Adolphus and Princess Aigi.

With a nod, the Emperor said, "I will send you off to Beijing, then sir." With a wave of a hand, he dismissed him from the quarters.

The Emperor then said to Adolphus after De La Warr left the room, "When I die or abdicate the Chinese throne, your wife-to-be, shall become the first Empress of China since Empress Wu of Tang, and you will be known as Emperor-consort, or in Chinese, Huangsi. However, once you two marry, I will abdicate the throne of the Kingdom of Manchuria, and designating the Crown Princess or Crown Prince as Queen or King of Manchuria from this point on, so to give experience to my heirs to be able to rule China effectively when I cease to exist. But I reassure, I will still rule China. As well, if the marriage is approved, any children from this marriage shall be part of the House of Aisin Gioro-Hanover, if the King approves, of course."

Aigi was shocked that after his death, she would become Empress, or Huangdi (same as Emperor) of China, when she expected her brother to become Emperor.

With a smile, the Daoguang Emperor finished, "I shall allow you to return if you wish to let the king know, or write a letter to him informing of what had happened. But I will let your conscience decide, for it really is up to you."

Lord Adolphus sent a note to the King, which he read and gave his consent to. All that needed to be done was for the wedding to take place.

July 11th, 1836
Changchun, Manchuria

This wedding was at the Royal Palace in Changchun. The Daoguang Emperor invited King William to attend the wedding, and it was meant to be a European-style wedding, then a Chinese-style coronation. The ballroom was decorated to resemble the room where the Emperor of China was crowned, but modified to make it look a British style wedding as well. Three thrones were there, one for the Daoguang Emperor, one for the King consort (after coronation), and one for the Queen.

An Anglican priest, Li Huang was seated in a chair in front of the throne, and the wedding was set to commence, right away.

The King himself could not attend alas, as news from America was arriving thick and fast, but Queen Adelaide did attend, and was in tears when she saw the wedding, even though Adolphus was not her true son.

The wedding was conducted in quintessential British style, and it followed every step accordingly until the end, where the King consort and the Queen sat down at their thrones, as well as the Daoguang Emperor. Then that was when the coronation began.

Two servants dressed in a costume resembling a stylistic depiction of a Chinese dragon entered the room, carrying two crowns. Instead of British music, Chinese music was performed, and the Emperor (as King of Manchuria) received the crown of Manchuria, which was stylistically Chinese and Manchu in every way. With that, he rose and said, first in English and then in Chinese, "When I crown Aigi and Adolphus, I will cease to be King of Manchuria, but not Emperor of China," and with that, cautiously placed the Crown of Manchuria on the head of Queen Aigi. The other servant came to give the coronet, in British style, to the Daoguang Emperor, and then he too placed it on the head of the King consort.

He then sat down, and the priest, Li Huang came up to them and asked Aigi what she will be known as during her reign.

Her response was "Xiukun (秀坤, Elegant Earth)," in Chinese, and "Queen Elizabeth" in English.

Li Huang then asked Adolphus, "What shall your English name be as King consort and your Chinese name, unless if you are willing for me to give you one, your highness?"
