The Infantry was trapped in many places, while Cavalry units started roaming across the town, attacking any Americaners they saw.

The merciless bombardment continued, and the British resorted to house-to-house tactics.

Both here and in Newfoundland, the battle continued for three days. In New Brunswick nearly 1,000 men were lost, and 800 were lost further north.

Portland, Maine

The British fleet had finally arrived at port after the winds did not wish to cooperate. Indeed, today there was more rain falling over Maine, a sign of what could be a cool year. In Augusta, Pretorius waited for a few more days.

Here there were several suitors for the Chinese prince, and seven prominent lords in the court accepted the invitation to the ball.

Changchun, Manchuria

These Lords made their way from London to Shanghai, where they took a train from there to Beijing, where the Daoguang Emperor and his daughter, Princess Aigi got on the royal carriage which was then coupled with the rest of the train to Changchun, the capital of the homeland of the Qing Dynasty: Manchuria. With nobody from other countries, it was clear that the husband of Aigi would be a Brit, except maybe a few others. The question was which one to choose?

When the train arrived in Changchun, they arrived at a train station that looked traditionally Chinese, a far cry from the European architecture in Shanghai, or even Beijing. Despite some modernization, it did not fundamentally change the outlook, but many of the rich had European influences in their buildings and their clothing. Hence, once they stopped off, horse-drawn carriages were waiting to take them to the Royal Palace of the Kingdom of Manchuria. Thus, the Daoguang Emperor and Princess Aigi got on one and made their way to the Palace.

The Palace was an anomaly to the rest of the city: the only things that were Chinese were the gardens and the outer walls and the gates. A large building, built in 1831 (after the old Palace was burnt down), was built as a smaller replica of the Peterhof Palace and was completed in 1835, to house the King of Manchuria (the Emperor of China) when he visits Manchuria. With fifteen rooms, two house his Manchurian concubines if he visits Manchuria, five are the "royal quarters", two water closets, a dining room and kitchen, a ballroom, two corridors connecting the two wings, and a sunroom, it seems inspiring and huge, but it is quite tiny. The ballroom however takes up about a third of space of the Royal Palace. With a private road and a bridge above the "lake" in the front to get access to the Changchun Palace, it seemed like the height of luxury, even compared to the Forbidden City.

Another 200 men were killed as it appeared the last of the resistance was being eliminated. The British were down to 31,000 here, and there were two more targets to claim, Placentia Bay and Channel-Port-Aux-Basques. The British commander here, General Henry Michiba, another Anglo-Japanese descendant, would lead a land assault against Placentia, while the navy would send about 12,000 men to C-p-a-b.

St. John, New Brunswick

Here Graves was preparing to divide his men(now numbering 59,000 after 6,000 were killed)into two groups. The first would be led by Graves himself, and march north to the provincial capital of Fredericton. The other would sail back across the Bay of Fundy for another attempt at taking Nova Scotia, landing outside of the ports of Digby and Annapolis Royal.

Near Fort Astoria, Oregon Country

Keane's western force had meanwhile arrived near their destination, while the northern force would soon establish a base on Vancouver Island, naming it Fort Victoria after the heir to the throne. Here the goal was to subdue the Oregonians.

20 Floréal XLIV (May 9, 1836)
Ville de la Liberte, Pichegru Department, Guyana

For a while, many had forgotten an agreement, between Britain and Guyana for a condominium over British Guyana, negotiated by Pichegru just prior to the conference that catapulted Guyanna to the map. However, the Director of Foreign Affairs, Osanne Honorine notified President Pichegru that West Guyana was a condominium shared between Britain and Guyana, and thus, they had to divide it. Hence, Osanne decided to raise the issue of reorganizing department borders which have remained unchanged in nearly four decades. At the same time, Pichegru decided that since English is likely to be spoken there, English should be an official language alongside French and soon, some suggested to expand claims over Dutch Guyana.

Suffice it to say, then some delegates decided that Portuguese should also be added since they claimed Amapa. After they saw their debates, they melded them together and created the "Territorial Reorganization Amendment," which alongside changing department borders (and creating communes in West Guyana), expanded their claims to all of Dutch Guyana, and added English, Dutch and Portuguese as official languages of the Republic, and declared that Anglicanism can be practiced in Guyana. Well, only West Guyana (except Ville de la Liberte, where West Guyanese delegates would obviously meet). The amendment also expanded the seats of the renamed "Assemblée des citoyens" (Assembly of Citizens, Dutch: Vergadering van de Burgers, Portuguese: Assembléia dos Cidadãos) to 600, of which 300 would be "functioning," of which 150 will go to the British, and 150 to the French, while the remainder will be reserved for future admissions of either Dutch Guiana (150), or Amapa (150), and created the Senate (French: Sénat, Dutch: Senaat, Portuguese: Senado), with one seat per department (five for East Guyana and three in the West, as well as three in the future Dutch area, and five in the future Portuguese area). It also declared that all persons who have "touched land" at the moment their colony joins Guyana will automatically be Guyanese citizens, and thus eligible to run for office and to vote. Polish was also designated a "minority language," an official language of the "Colony of Little Poland" (Mała Polska Kolonia), and of which the colony has more rights than other departments (ordinary departments are in charge of education, while Little Poland will also be in charge of taxation, have its own legislative assembly, healthcare, and its own customs and foreign affairs (within limitations, while defense will remain the responsibility of the Republic), as well as keeping 60% of its revenue). The Assembly of Citizens will be elected by first past the post, by the citizens living in Guyana currently controlled by the Republic, while the governors of the departments appoint a Senator.

After the amendment was passed, there was only one abstention, and it was announced it will take effect next election. With the new borders set, on paper so Guyana will be contiguous, although it really is not, it will have 25,690 citizens (of which 7,501 are living in West Guyana, and the remainder in the east), of which 13,591 will have the right to vote in the 1837 general election.

May 11th, 1836

In preparation, Guyana sent a telegram stating that while that "we have expanded our territory, your authorities will also maintain equal powers within West Guyana, such as the right to issue your own laws, your own curriculum, and the right to veto constitutional amendments, and be exempt from laws that ignore the condominium." They also reassured the Netherlands that Guyana will only attack if they got attacked.

Dublin, Ireland

Ardghal O'Berach was born in rural Ireland, near Abbeyshrule, 49 years ago. For most of his life, he was a farmer: he only moved a few years ago to Dublin, so to focus more on developing his ideology, and writing a book detailing it. Thus, he finally wrote a book, "Fruit of Freedom," or in his native Irish, "Torthaí na Saoirse."

In the Fruit of Freedom, he details the importance of a government led by both "múinteoirí agus chléir" (teachers and clergy) to govern Ireland, with a proposal of seven clergy and seven teachers to govern Ireland with each side electing one of their own to lead Ireland for five year terms as "Ard Rí" of Ireland (High King), while the head of state will be the Pope. O'Berach also advocates that Roman Catholicism be promoted as an official religion, and that Irish should be extensively promoted and taught, while English would be discouraged. He urges that Anglicanism should be banned, and "cleansed" from the Irish elite, in favor of Irish Catholics. Another part that he stresses is that for economics, it should be "predominantly agrarian," with industry set up in a few cities so to export Irish goods to the world, but also advocates adopting technology "if it benefits the Irish way of life." It even displays his theories on why Ireland fell under British oppression (not just detailing what happened, but why, in his eyes, it happened), such as in regards to Cromwell's takeover of Ireland, saying that the reason why the English did so was because they felt the Irish were backwards and savage, and thus unworthy of life, when in reality, he claims, they were more advanced than the English, and that English, and later British rule of Ireland was a "step backward for Ireland." He then ends with a call to remove the "heathen authorities who rule us from London," by revolution, which he says cannot be forced, but must come if a famine occurs.

After he publishes it, he sends some English copies to Britain, and encourages foreign translations, but he explicitly says at the end, "THE IDEAS CONTAINED THEREIN ARE NOT FOR EXPORT: THESE ARE FOR THE PURPOSES OF AN IDEAL GOVERNMENT FOR THE IRISH PEOPLE IN ITS CURRENT SITUATION."

Império do Brasil

The Brazilian Parliament is not particularly surprised over the Guyanese plans of expansion and their now resigned presidents speech which portrayed Brazil as an Oppressive and evil empire. The news are talked about a little bit but in the end are mostly ignored with the only real response was the sending of some more military forces.

Il disertore

In Italy a new book hits the shelf of book stores. It is called Il disertore or "The Deserter". The story of the book takes place in a fictional war between Italy and the Ottoman empire. The books story then follows Adalfredo Capaccio a soldier in the Italian army who after an brutal battle against the ottoman empire in Bosnia deserts the army. The book then follows him moving across the war torn landscape of Bosnia and Croatia in his attempt to return to his home village in Sicily. In the end however he is found by Italian forces outside of Zagreb and executed for desertion.

The book was a good enough success in Italy but the book was still attacked by some members of the military for its somewhat negative portrayal of the military. The book has been planned to be translated into German, English, Japanese, Chinese, Swedish, Turkish, Russian, French, Portuguese and Hungarian.

Today, is the ball that will determine whether you obtain Princess Aigi. We got a variety of British and Chinese cuisine available, as well as traditional British and Chinese alcohol. But if you have good footwork, can hold down Chinese liquor, and impress my daughter, you can very well be Aigi's husband, and become part of the House of Aisin-Gioro." With this, he was ready to allow them to dance in the ballroom.

Georgetown, Demerara Department, West Guyana (Anglo-Guyanese Condominium)
With that, a new position, the Director of West Guyana (there was the Director of Defense, Director of Foreign Affairs, Director of Education, Director of the Treasury, Director of Health, and the Director of State) was created, so to be the Guyanese representative within the Anglo-Guyanese condominium. A person, Joseph Anderson was decided to be the first person to be the Director, due to his knowledge of English, and thus, able to take control. After a sailing time of two days from Ville de la Liberte to Georgetown, he arrived, with an announcement to represent the Guyanese in the condominium.

However, it was clear that La Marseillaise and the French tricolor, the symbols of the Republic of Guyana were seen as inappropriate and insensitive, especially to the inhabitants of West Guyana, and Joseph Anderson started to plan for ideas for a new flag for Guyana and an anthem, of which Anderson hoped will have a stanza in French, another in English, another in Dutch, and the last in Portuguese. For the time being, the symbols that Guyana had since 1797 were kept.

Constantinople

The ban on von Licht's book was lifted as peace settled back into the Ottoman Empire. The Deserter flowed into the country, leading to many being amused at the idea of an Italo-Ottoman War, both nations were allies, once in the Austrian War, and again in the Greek War, which continued to rage.

Mahmud II scoffed and shrugged.

Salonika

Turkish forces advanced again, crippling the Greek Navy after they captured the port of Salonika. The Battle of Salonika would lead to an internal reform of the Ottoman Empire's Balkan provinces, as soon as the war came to an end.

Malta/b]

The Island of Malta was imitatively targeted by the Italian navy and army as it was part of Italia iredenta which was soon to be finished. the Landing was meet by fierce resistance by the Greeks but eventually the Italian bombardment and numerical superiority of Italian military forces invading the island made the Greek defense succumb.

[b]The Ionian Sea

the other objective that the Italian navy had before they could safely take Crete was to establish Italian Naval superiority in the war something that could be achieved now that the Greek fleet had been crippled after the Ottoman capture of Thessaloniki. This coupled with other parts of the Greek fleet being destroyed or captured during the capture of Malta resulted in the battle of the Ionian sea being an victory for the Italian navy. Even then the Greeks fought harder than expected and inflicted heavier loses than most would have expected.

Italy now had naval superiority in the Mediterranean sea though and the capture of the Ionian islands and Crete where of highest priority now though. Italian Naval Superiority over the Mediterranean sea where becoming more of a reality every day.

London
May 13, 1836

The assaults on the American cities had been arrested due to a heavy rain that had fallen over the eastern provinces, but by today all forces were near their targets, albeit weakened by Americaner raids. In the meantime Melbourne had much else on his plate. A letter had arrived from Guyana informing the British of their intentions to expand. The British were mindful to avoid war with the Netherlands when so much of their army was still in America, even so Melbourne and Palmerston sent a letter to the British administrator, Sir James Carmichael Smyth, to the effect that Britain would gladly fulfill its obligations under the condominium in the event of war with either the Dutch or Brazil.

The book is quickly banned in the Caucasus- in fact, it is banned before a single copy even exists in the country.

The storm had caused problems. 4 transport ships were sunk, and another 2 ran aground 2 days previously, reducing the assault force here to 25,500 from their original 28,000. They entered the bay and split between Digby and Annapolis Royal, bombarding each.

Newfoundland

The two assault forces were outside their respective targets.

Bangor, Maine

Pretorius had arrived outside his target, and began to assault it with artillery.

London

London was also fairly busy. "The Deserter" was released under its original name and became the second best-selling book in Britain, just behind a book entitled "The Pickwick Papers", the first work of a new upstart named Charles Dickens.

Another book called "Fruit of Freedom" was also sold for a few days, before Parliament voted overwhelmingly to ban the work as "treasonable against church and state". Many British readers(those that could read the book before the ban)were shocked by its messages.

The Americaners were now fighting with disorganized, chaotic militias, unable to effectively counter the British.

Constantinople

The terrifying onslaught of the Ottoman Empire had brutalized the Greek state. Coupled with their terrible failure at Malta, the Greeks had little choice in the matter. Mahmud II was informed by letter delivered on horseback that the Kingdom of Greece had formally accepted the surrender demands of Italy and the Ottoman Empire. A second letter was dispatched by boat to Italy. Mahmud II had invited the Italian King to Constantinople to settle the final details of the Greek partition.

The fall of Greece had triggered a further event. Mahmud II's daughter, Adile Sultana traversed into the Balkans to announce his latest attempt at reforming the Empire. The new provincial system, a reform on the Vilayets, established the Congress of Skopje, aiming to settle ethnic borders between all the ethnicities in the Ottoman Empire in the Balkan region. Further reforms would be eventually extended to the Arabs.

Changchun, Manchuria, China
June 1, 1836

The eager suitors arrived in the ballroom, and one of King William's sons(illegitimate), Lord Adolphus FitzClarence, was the first to introduce himself to Princess Aigi. "It is a true honour, privilege, and joy to meet you Your Highness," he said, "How are things faring for you?"

New Brunswick

After just two days Fredericton fell and was taken by the British. Digby and Annapolis Royal both fell the following day, and Bangor was taken by Pretorius' men by May 24. The rest of New Brunswick was easily subdued, and the main ports of Newfoundland were now in Michiba's hands. Today Graves was leading his men into Nova Scotia to begin the envelopment battle, while Prince Edward Island was left to be starved into submission. Maine was to be fortified as the attack on Nova Scotia began with two goals. First, to take Halifax which would take nearly a week to arrive at, and second, to release Baron Ishikawa from his internment in the Sydney Coal Mines.

Oregon Country

Here the British were finding things easier than planned. Large parts of the Oregon Country were falling to the British, and it appeared that Fremont might soon be captured.

London

Back on May 23 Parliament passed the Irish Constabulary Act, a law meant to streamline and centralise the Police in Ireland, who needed reorganisation after that book was published. But now a new movement would soon shake up things in Britain...

Princess Aigi replied in English, with a heavy Chinese/Manchu accent, "I have been doing well, my Lord, thank you for asking. And how is it for you, sir?"

Guyana

After the Guyanese received the letter approving their decision and the vow for Britain to assist with Guyana, as well to fulfill the obligations of the condominium, a new flag was adopted, designed by Director Joseph Anderson, blue representing the sky and the sea, the green representing the fertile land of Guyana, and white representing Guyana's neutrality. The previous Guyanese flag (1797-1836), the French tricolor was designated the flag of the French-speaking community, and the flag of Great Britain the flag of the English-speaking community. Election season had begun, and candidates were coming from both the east and the west. Many are registering, and the ports of Ville de la Liberte and Georgetown will get busy for the first real campaign.

"Quite well my Lady," he answered, "My father sends you his regards. Shall we dance, or does something else catch our fancy?"

Changchun, Manchuria

"Sir, I am willing to dance," she says. She had learned British and Chinese dances, and to be honest, she preferred how the British danced.

Ireland

Despite the ban of "Torthaí na Saoirse," or "Fruit of Freedom" by Parliament, it was popular amongst Irish nationalists, and while copies are no longer sold, they were handed out, often with fake Anglican Bible covers which if you turn the page, reveals you're reading the Fruit of Freedom. Storytellers were encouraged to tell them to villagers and many, including O'Berach himself traveled throughout Ireland to tell the Fruit of Freedom. In his birthplace, Abbeyshrule, he said in Irish, "Is féidir liom a bhraitheann cé chomh fuar is é an aimsir, conas a rachaidh an barra theipeann, agus má tharlaíonn sé sin, tá a fhios agam go mbeidh na húdaráis i Londain múscail gan a jewel choróin i n-ornáideach: Éire!" (I can feel how cold the weather is, how the crops will fail, and if that happens, I know that the authorities in London will wake up without a jewel in their ornate crown: Ireland!) In urban areas, he used English, but in rural areas, he used a mix of English and Irish.

Little did he know that in several months, the fruit would be ripe for a revolution...

Roma

As the letter from the ottomans arrived to king Carlo Alberto knew that things where going well. With a Greek surrender earlier than many in the Italian general stab expected it was also happy news that an long and brutal campaign to take Crete would not be needed. With this Carlo went with a boat to Constantinople for the details of the partition of Greece. Hopefully Italy would gain its goals and come closer to its plans for the Mediterranean sea.
