No, in fact.

If Rome had never fallen, it would likely have become like China, which was its own Rome-like figure (and then later more than that, as it grew larger and more powerful than Rome had ever been) and just end up causing the stagnation of the region in the long run due to the lack of competition.

It doesn't matter if you stagnate, if you have no competition.

Better tech =/= getting gunpowder faster

Sure, because obviously China ended up having no rivals in the long run.

It means that other areas will get ahead.

I just wanted to find a way to transplant the Roman world into a more modern era.

Because they didn't dominate the whole world in tech. Also, we would get gunpowder faster because Rome would expand to Asia and find it.

China actually did for over a thousand years.

And no, you don't "find" gunpowder. You mix up chemicals while doing other stuff and then accidently have a small explosion in front of your face, and then realize the potential it has for military weaponry.

Right, but the way people fought in the Middle Ages encouraged it's development. Also, gunpowder was discovered by accident in the ninth century, so to say that complex flintlocks would exist in that amount of time would be quite...weird...

Anyways, I was hoping for a modern-times, or at least just a WWI tech level.

We could do that tech level. I just wanted to gauge everyone's reaction. Again, regardless of the backstory the idea was to transplant the Roman world in the west and the Mongol world in the east into a more modern era.

I think WWI tech would be cool.

That would be cool. Byzantines, Visigoths, Celts, etc. with WWI tech.
