You at least border potential expansion. I border Afghanistan... I can never fully take and annex afghanistan.

Yeah until some else comes along and claims them.

I'm pretty sure the whole of Japan has already been reserved. But if you do want to reserve something use the form on the front page.

Land you want to reserve: Ryukyu Islands, Honshu, Hokkaido, Kagoshima
When will you be able to put up an application?: Later today.
If your reservation app is denied, will you still join in a different land?: Maybe..

Well for strategic value it does. Think of this. China is it's largest border with me and they are part of the Eurasian pact and if the USDR joins the Eurasian pact man will I be pressed if I join DATO. I will still think about what side to join though.

Well, I'm pretty sure that their reservation has been up. I put the time for when you think you can get the app up. If you don't do it by then, then your reservation is null.

I accidentally forgot that the Philippines were apart of Chemaki's claims, so Filipino sovereignty will be disputed. Like the CSA, and Texas conflict.

Yes but my point was that economically it doesn't matter what side you take as people will continue to invest in India. Also you wouldn't be forced to join either. If anyone attempted to invade India you'd have DATO's assistance in kicking them out, regardless of whether you were a member or not, as long as you wanted help of course.

Brief Description of your nation's History:

Japan had always been regarded by the other east Asian nations as the 'Land of the Rising Sun', being isolated and removed from the rest of the going-ons in the Chinese sphere. However, diplomats from China arrived in it's early history, bringing along their own language. But, the Japanese soon feared this burgeoning power and shut down their nation from others, hence, isolation.

During it's more recent history (1600s), the Tokugawa Dynasty came into being, and forced the closure of all ports to western influence. However, later, the Americans forced Japan into opening it's ports in the 1800s. At this time, Japan became more open to outside influences and established a parliament, rapidly industrializing their nation. As China marched into Korea by Korea's own Queen Min's order, Japan saw this as a break of an earlier treaty, and flattened the Chinese army and acquired Korea. Afterwards, they defeated the Russians at Port Arthur, establishing their superiority as the real power in East Asia. The invasion of Manchuria followed, with the state of Manchukuo set up (this was after multiple political upheavals, when military leaders gained power over Japan). Thus, the First Sino-Japanese war.

With the outbreak of WWII, Japan allied itself with Germany and Italy and launched a furious invasion on the Pacific and China. However, they went to far, invading Australia, and even attacking pearl-harbor- drawing the mighty powers of both Britain and the United States into the war. A series of desperate attacks followed, however, when the Americans bombed Nagasaki and Hiroshima they were forced to surrender. The Americans set up a Parliament in Japan, and rapid growth followed. However, recently, economic growth has slowed down.

Brief Description of your nation's economy:

Japan's economy is extremely fragile; they depend on more technological and service-oriented goods than natural resources. However, they are trying to take control of the Senkaku Islands to gain oil, but China has also laid claims on that.

Brief Description of your nation's government:

Japan is a constitutional monarchy. However, the Emperor is mainly a figurehead, and the National Diet really decides the affairs of the nation. It's two major parties are conservative and libertarian.

RP Example:

Just look up 'Siujun' in my post history.

Brief Description of your nation's History: After the American Civil War, Mexico tried to re-annex California from the United States, There wasn't a war yet, just a claim on the territory, this caused a revolution in California before the war even started. So during the Second Mexican-American War, California was technically an independent nation, they got Oregon, Nevada, and Baja California to join them. But since they were independent, the U.S. could't go to war with them without triggering yet another conflict after the already bloody American Civil War. The war was even less popular as it was the first time Gatling Guns had been used in a battle.

Brief Description of your nation's economy: There are four distinct economies in California. Southern California is obviously motion picture production, The Bay Area is technology-oriented, The Central Valley is agriculture, and Northern California is for the growing of marijuana. The out of state territories(just organized into counties) have their own economies. Nevada has mining, Oregon is Timber and Fishing, and Baja California is heavy manufacturing and agriculture. California's economy is the is the seven largest economy in the world. As of 2008, the gross state product (GSP) is about $2.85 trillion. The state's GDP growth rate slowed to 0.4% in 2008 after having grown 3.1% in 2006 and 1.8% in 2007. As of 2010 California along with USA leads all other states in the number of Fortune 500 headquarters at 57 companies each.

Brief Description of your nation's government: A republic where the Impirren is elected for life. There is a council to advise the Impirren. That's really it.

Today's Question

What do you guys think of the Motor City of Detroit officially filing for bankruptcy?

I think it's a shame honestly, but it's been a long time coming. Detroit has been falling for years now, and it was to come sooner or later at this point.
