Foolish low-techs, I shall use THIS as my weapon of mass destruction.
Ion Cannons that can turn entire cities into craters do better than nukes that can only kill most life within a few miles.
Ion Cannons got more control, and more focused radiation.
Everything within firing radius destroyed/disintegrated/killed instantaneously.

Nukes can get bigger, and leave behind fallout to kill more stuff. Also, Bunkerbuster+nuke=world in Flames.

This also destroys most of the O-zones that are on-planets, therefor, making the area hit more prone to becoming a desert, and being hit again.

It causes winter in a place I'd like to call the "Area of Effect".
The Area of Effect, is the amount of space within which the solar energy purely is absorbed by the satellite. It does this without using energy, rather a natural magnet to the solar energy. The Area of Effect, on-planet, is within the giant circle of which solar energy is not effecting the planet.
Therefor, no heat nor radiation is getting there.
So, winter happens as an effect.
Makes perfect sense. Physics is a wonderful thing. :3
