If nothing else a Grand Council could at least serve as a vehicle for the war, with one side being disgusted with the outcome and refusing to abide.

Second sons does not have a claim equal to the one of the first son. Its like Catelyn tells Robb when he is thinking about legitimizing Jon Snow and name him heir it would make the line of succession questionable creating a never ending series of potential pretenders with a claim equal to the at any time sitting king. A disaster.

Precisely. A Grand Council decision would legally equate any other line to a lesser claim than a second son.

You could have someone request to be an observer in the interests of the Iron Bank of Braavos, but then again foreigners don't really have a place. It's for all pretenders, Lords Paramount, the High Septon and the Citadel to sit in on.

Is it okay if I have a guard watching in the (I suppose) amassed crowds? Or is it more of a secluded meeting?

Unless the loosing side of a council instantly declare it illegal and call a counter council of their own. Somehow I think that is quite likely.

The main idea is, that Laerio would have done as Salloreon asked, had he been polite. Now... we're heading for a very nasty war. We're quite evenly matched.

However, your guy couldn't have known Laerio is so proud. And... this should spice the RP up.

I mean, he did promise to have his palace attacked by the very men he trusted. That's just...

I don't think it was a particularly rude letter. The one to Volantis was worse. It was a haughty letter containing some harsh truths.

Either way it would take several days for the letter to get to Braavos and before Laerio has mobilized, presumably he has to recall forces from Tyrosh, the Volantene fleet will have arrived so it is quite possible there won't be a battle between Braavos and Lys.

Oh... oh, sorry, I thought you sent it to Tyrosh where he is besieging the city right now. The ships would sail past Tyrosh on their way to Braavos, they couldn't miss it.

Still, he threatened his family indirectly by that bit about the palace. Laerio does not like.
But you probably noticed the truths left him reeling, right?

Oh right I meant to Tyrosh of course, I hadn't realized he was there with the forces.

As for threatening his family I think Sarelleon would have called it a warning. Nobleborn Westerosi knights doesn't wage war against women and children, but when provoked they doesn't force their allies to refrain from it too, that was the gist of the message.

Well, Laerio probably thinks he's nobleborn, which he technically is... well, let's see what happens. For now, you should worry about getting squeezed between Volantis and Braavos :p.

I'll be responding to the Grand Maester's request and meeting with the Master of Laws in my next post, and quite possible moving Tywin or Tytos around.

All of them with the exceptions of Braavos and Volantis. Pentos and Lorath have been subjugated to the Sealord, while Tyrosh is beseiged by mercenary companies sworn to the Braavosi cause, namely world domination. However, I would not dissuade you from taking these roles. I've always loved playing the underdog myself. In short, these are still open:

  • Pentos
  • Tyrosh
  • Lys
  • Lorath
  • Myr
  • Norvos
  • Qohor

How about Mantarys? Really underdog from what I've gathered, unless that not free...... I'm not the best at Game of Thrones, but I love the idea.

I noticed :p Of course that's to be expected, if the new Sealord of Braavos with his Blackfrye wife are received as upjumped mercenaries then a Volantine ruler would just be seen as a ruthless slaver. If the Braavosi forces are stationed in Tyrosh for a siege I'd assume that would include a large part of the fleet, correct? Why would the Braavosi let several galleys bearing a mercenary company employed to those who had so recently threatened them past their blockade? Unless the ships are meant to sail around Tyrosh and bypass the Braavosi altogether but then it's a bit a stretch that they arrive before the siege is ended with Myr take.

EDIT: I want to clear this with the OP before I mention it in my post. Would it be fine if Horonno shelters a down on its luck Dothraki khalasars of maybe 3,000, maybe 1,000 men of fighting age? I have perfectly valid IC reasons for it all, and I've always loved the Dothraki....

Right now I RP Lys, Myr and Tyrosh as being more or less puppets of House Redwyne but after their war is over it would be nice to have someone to RP perhaps Lys.

The Volantene was viewed as Volantene until they got grubby with territory belonging to the Redwyne Triple Alliance.

As for mercenaries getting through I don' think it more unlikely than Braavosi and Volantene ships breaking through the Redwyne blockade of the Stepstones, and in any case I send the ships almost all the way to Dorne before sailing far around Tyrosh (where the Braavosi are presumably busy preparing to sail south) aiming for Pentos until they turn and enter the Sea of Myrth. It shouldn't take more than a few days and certainly a lot less time than a siege.

As for a Dothraki khalasar you can get one of a thousand with very good IC reasons for them to be there.
